What (fast) model will replace the Seal Performance?

The Seal EV (Performance) is an amazing deal if you can find one. Looks good, super fast acceleration and nicely priced. But where I live (Thailand) they don’t seem to make/import them anymore, they only sell 2023/24 models that have been sitting in the BYD lots. The 2025 models never came here and I don’t see anything in the horizon. I searched a bit to see what would be the next great deal and found the Denza Z9 GT which is good but will cost a lot more, as it’s not even branded under the BYD badge. Will the Seal EV get a worthy replacement ? All the other Seal models (05, 08 etc) that are coming out are not really in the same league, I wanted to see another EV that’s comparable to the Performance model and would cost about the same.

The closest thing would be the Sealion 7 Performance. Same chassis, same power, bigger body, interior updates. I'm sure you already knew that though. In China, the seal got an updated interior for 2025-26, but in Indonesia the 2025-26 seal interior was not updated (only the suspension). This is important because it looks like BYD doesn't care about the seal in Southeast Asia, it feels like they are planning to kill the model line in the future. In

Yes I was wondering if the plan is to kill the model but they should offer a replacement. Really hope they come up with something in the next couple years. The Sealion 7 isn’t on the same category.

still available in Australia, so its your local importer that is the problem.

Wait for the all-wheel drive, 310 kilowatt Atto 3 that's coming in 2026 - According to rumours

I don't think they're going to kill the seal at all in SEA or Australia.

I hope they don't, but wholesales in Indonesia for BYD models tell a different story. December 2025: Atto 1 - 4853 units M6 - 756 units Sealion 7 - 486 units Atto 3 - 435 units Seal - 28 units Dolphin - 2 unit It doesn't necessarily mean they're going to cut seal or dolphin, but I can hear the local distributors grinding their axes. Not surprising numbers though as roads in Indonesia are better served by cars with good breakover angles.

Look, it depends on the country, right? They're selling pretty well in Australia.

Yes, but car model decisions often happen in ASEAN as a bloc. For example, ASEAN models dont get AC Heaters or Heated Seats but do get Permanently Disable-able ADAS. Thailand and Indonesia are two huge markets, so its a bad omen to not do well in both countries.

Correct, this and the agreement made with the Thai government. The agreement with BYD factory in Rayong was that for each BYD car imported from China, BYD must produce 1.5 car locally. (Thailand EV 3.0 incentive program). They won't import new Seal while still having stock of previous imports. The local factory started to produce the Dolphin and the Atto 3, only recently the Seal so it might arrive at some point.
