Just got a new BYD seal

Jealous_Isopod725 | 2026-02-02 20:45 | 34 views

Hello! I’m new to the family but I finally took a step towards actually going electric and got a BYD seal. I just wanted to know if there’s anything I should know about the car like a useful command or just some things that I should learn to get used to it from the get go And a side question is can I play games one the BYD seal? Like the Tesla using its steering wheel to play Mario cart or just any cool quirky features. Anything would be useful

You can program the screen rotation button on the steering wheel to something else (pause/play media). You can also unlock the IVI to install android APPs (leave this to when you fill confident you can do it or just don't do it) And, afaik, you can't play games with the steering wheel EDIT: TYPO,YOU CAN'T

Searching this sub-reddit would be useful 😉

Reposting what I said to someone asking a similar question a while back: Before you get used to using the start button, turn on auto power on / auto power off. This will make the car turn itself on when you unlock it and open the driver-side door. It also turns itself off when you lock it. This means you never need to touch the start button. This avoids being in a state where there's a human in the car, but it's not powered on. You don't ever want it to be in this state because the human may be at an inappropriate temperature. You may think it's OK for a human to be at a slightly sub-optimal temperature but the car doesn't: It gets really worried about it and starts beeping the horn at your neighbours. (The system that does this is called "Child Presence Detection" but it doesn't know the difference between you and a child.)

You are supposed to calibrate the battery by charging it from <10% to 100% without interrupting the charging roughly every 3 months. It's just inherent to LFP batteries and the Seal uses one.
