Engine Problems

Richard Bailey | 2026-01-22 20:37 | 30 views

Hi all Now this is a major concern and a worry!! Whilst sitting stationary at lights in my SEAL U DMI, the car started to shake violently!! The driver display showed that both the battery and the engine were working in unison. After getting the AA(BYD Assist) to have a look, the faults found were cylinders 2 and 4 misfiring!! WTF!! The car has done less than 5000 miles and has always had premium/super unleaded in its tank. Has anybody experienced anything similar? I'm booked into my "local" BYD service centre but they can't fit me in until 19th Feb. Again....WT actual F? I'll let you know what they find and why this occurred in the 1st place. Cheers all. Safe motoring!! Autos & Vehicles

Well I have done even less mileage than you but I’ve not encountered any problems, during those 2161 miles, from the engine. I have just had the V2.1.0 OTA download which crashed halfway through, first time ever I’ve had any issue during an update, and I now have the warning symbol for the ‘car detection system’ the orange one on the mirrors and HUD, in green on the dash and it’s gone completely from the HUD I’m looking at if I turn it on / off in the relevant section of the system settings to see if that makes any difference but it is looking like a visit to the tech guy at the service centre, which is always fraught with danger, and expense, from experience of other cars I’ve owned. I’ll keep a look out for your update with interest and good luck with it.

I'm sorry to hear about the troubles you're both having. I got my Seal U in August, and now have more than 12,000 miles showing and have had no issues with the engine or OTA downloads. I never plug in, have the car maintain my SOC around 60% and do lots of motorway miles in serene comfort allowing the ACC to earn a living.

Steel188 No real problems with the car, works really well, very comfortable, silent, no real wind noise on the motorway and none at all on general roads, all the tech is and has worked great, happy with the mpg. Not sure why the OTA crashed, well other than the WiFi connection dropping out, which is not the cars fault. I went for the ‘turn it off and then on again’ approach to see if that would fix the issue and I will go for a test run later today to see if that has worked. The only minor moan I have would be the almost total lack of availability of parts! They have been selling the cars for over two years and the Seal U has been about in China for more than six years now but trying to get service parts is nigh on impossible, if you search very hard yes to oil filter, air and pollen filters, sparks plugs are out there but mainly from a main dealership at a premium price but anything else like door mirror housings or body trim has proven to be very difficult indeed and I do worry that should you have a small ding that you could repair yourself you would be forced to a dealership and I like to service my own vehicle , not the battery necessarily but everything else is easy for the home mechanic, it’s basic maintenance. Maybe it’s just me and it’s not a moan, just saying.
