Las Vegas Police Force Touted New “Bulletproof” Cybertrucks. The Only Problem? They Aren’t Bulletproof.

IcyHowl4540 | 2025-12-27 04:39 | 453 views

This is going to get awkward when they go to their first hostage-situation or whatever and then promptly explode

Should be fine, local police don't really need bulletproof cars, they aren't the army.

sdc_is_safer 2025-12-27 04:50

I thought the body is bullet proof? Don’t really care though

IcyHowl4540 2025-12-27 04:51

Yeah, but imagine how a police officer might act differently if they THOUGHT their car was bulletproof. Why take cover if you're in an APC? Until bullets start going through the windshield, they'll have no idea.

0Rider 2025-12-27 04:57

A quick YouTube search proves otherwise

ShoemakerMicah 2025-12-27 04:57

Cybertrucks are FAR from bulletproof. Spoken as the former owner of an e38 BMW 750iLP. The Cybertruck isn’t 25% as tough as that car and it was only B2 spec armor. Used it for storm chasing. Bought as a trade in from an embassy for only $8K.

IcyHowl4540 2025-12-27 04:59

I'm sorry... I MUST know. How does one connect with an embassy to purchase an ACTUAL bulletproof car? Like, did you just walk up and ask, or did you know somebody? asking for a friend...

sdc_is_safer 2025-12-27 04:59

I did a quick YouTube video search and found that bullets do not penetrate the body … ?

IcyHowl4540 2025-12-27 05:01

Here's a porn actor who seems \*genuinely\* surprised when his first pistol shot blows a hole in his CT: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXe41OlDkz0&themeRefresh=1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXe41OlDkz0&themeRefresh=1) He probably thought it was bulletproof, too.

Ya_Got_GOT 2025-12-27 05:07

How is that the “only” problem with a CT?

1hill2climb2 2025-12-27 05:10

Wait, you mean glue and plastic aren't bulletproof? My god I learn something new everyday!

CarbonKLR 2025-12-27 05:12

I remember the e38 protection. It was my dream car. I remember in 2000 it was 128k new. James bond tomorrow never dies also featured it

Emily_Postal 2025-12-27 05:17

Musk probably bragged that it was going to be bulletproof.

ShoemakerMicah 2025-12-27 05:19

It was a trade in at a large metro dealership actually. When I bought it, the car was 11 years old and had 101k miles, disqualified for financing for 99% of people. I went and looked at it and test drove it, multiple issues and MIL’s on. Told the dealer it was obviously an “auction” car and talked to sales manager to find out next auction date. Wrote him a check for way less than 1/2 of asking price. Two months later I got an early am call from him saying that they “would be cashing my check” and if possible pick up the car the following weekend. Simple as that. I was looking for anything V12 powered to make a RatRod or beater out of. Modified the intakes and exhausts until I liked the sound of it for close to free. I was in the motorcycle industry at the time so had access to a lot of free parts and hydraulic lifts. We had the car lift for special customers and our own toys.

etaoin314 2025-12-27 05:32

he literally did

Blair_Beethoven 2025-12-27 05:33

Awesome 😎. How heavy was it and how long did you keep it?

Sufficient_Water4161 2025-12-27 05:35

That sounds amazing! Its not something I've ever heard from a luxury sedan, and probabaly catches people off guard when you hit the gas.

etaoin314 2025-12-27 05:40

the only place behind an ICE car that is bullet proof is the engine block, standing behind a door does nothing. In an EV the motors and battery would be the most bullet resistant parts but very difficult to use very effectively because of the shape and low positioning. While some tests have shown that the stainless steel on the cybertruck can stop very some very small arms, they would most likely not stop anything that a proper criminal shooting at cops would use. its all gimmick though. if these get into a fender bender they will be totaled.

IcyHowl4540 2025-12-27 05:57

Police near me arrive in this as their "tactical vehicle": [https://i.pinimg.com/736x/20/0f/7a/200f7af633e6375b1fdae15a75aa75e1.jpg](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/20/0f/7a/200f7af633e6375b1fdae15a75aa75e1.jpg) Obviously, it is bulletproof.

terra_cotta 2025-12-27 06:03

Right before he smashed the window (2x) in a demonstration meant to show it was bulletproof.

apworker37 2025-12-27 06:26

I have a hunch that some people will see this as target practice.

GhostofBreadDragons 2025-12-27 06:44

Can’t wait for the first time one of these cyber “police” trucks  catches on fire from the battery being shot.

Alternative-Nerve999 2025-12-27 07:15

Yeah, neither bullet proof, fire proof, depreciation proof or butt-of-all jokes proof.

foo-bar-25 2025-12-27 07:22

Not bulletproof, and not really trucks.

PKnecron 2025-12-27 08:55

They're barely even trucks.

justthegrimm 2025-12-27 09:36

And given the way they like to cook off shooting at the battery pack sounds like a great idea! Please start a live stream for the demo

Mr_Madrass 2025-12-27 11:04

I would strongly recommend not to use battery as bullet shield.

SpectrumWoes 2025-12-27 11:07

Nothing about these shitheaps are “bulletproof” The RAV4 Hybrid has an E-CVT that’s recognized as bulletproof because of its design and reliability. That can’t be said for any shitty part on the Cybertruck.

mologav 2025-12-27 13:31

They aren’t allowed to be resold in Ireland, they have to be scrapped and that’s no easy job

Beezelbubba 2025-12-27 13:35

Most pistol bullets, maybe. Any center fire rifle will go through both sides

Lacrewpandora 2025-12-27 14:57

>This is going to get awkward when they go to their first hostage-situation ...or make their first trip to the car wash.

Lacrewpandora 2025-12-27 14:59

"Bulletproof^(1)" ^(1)*Supervised*

Sharkwatcher314 2025-12-27 15:37

I feel like this is a scene from a movie. They promised me bulletproof cue the shootout where the car is a mess lol

Ill_Somewhere_3693 2025-12-27 15:59

Are these actually being used for street patrols??

[deleted] 2025-12-27 18:33

So china cant google for "are redneck trucks bulletproof?"

TryIsntGoodEnough 2025-12-27 18:36

Usually fire stations are fairly close to police stations, that may come in handy... just saying

ShoemakerMicah 2025-12-27 19:25

B2 armor is not shockingly heavy. Mainly the glass and thicker/harder metal body parts. I never weighed it but I’d guess a bit over 5,000 lbs. The B6 level package is probably insanely heavy as it has underbody protection, onboard air system, designed withstand a variety of threats.

ShoemakerMicah 2025-12-27 19:29

I had so much fun with that car. It definitely surprised people. Motor failed at 175,000 miles, not too serious a failure but it would have taken me 2 weeks to fix roughly, sold it to a buddy who fixed it up, then traded it for Chuck Norris’s old 635 CSI with full M spec rally motor. That car was SICK!

IcyHowl4540 2025-12-27 21:31

Hey now it works one time as a dual purpose shield/illumination flare

IcyHowl4540 2025-12-27 21:35

The sticker on the side says "tactical vehicle," so I don't think it's for typical traffic-cop stuff. They're kitted for SWAT-type work with everything you would need to breach a barricaded building (ladders/shields), so actually, significantly more dangerous work than street patrol is planned I think.

bbf_bbf 2025-12-27 23:30

Well, Elon said they would be bulletproof, so it must be true, right? The richest man in the world would not possibly make exaggerated claims...😮 And "technically" there are some bullets, not used by criminals, that won't penetrate. 😉. The Vegas cops just need to convince all of them to use those bullets.

etaoin314 2025-12-28 05:53

and it even looks better!

BringBackUsenet 2025-12-28 17:27

What is it about Vegas? Either they drank a lot of Musk flavored Kool Aid or they are all in his pocket. You would expect hat underground traffic jam to be a good reminder that they shouldn't be dealing with Wile Elon Coyote.

BringBackUsenet 2025-12-28 17:28

I have an E39. Great car!

BringBackUsenet 2025-12-28 17:31

What they do need are cars that are maneuverable and in Vegas they'll need powerful AC. AC in an EV is only going to kill the range.

BringBackUsenet 2025-12-28 17:32

There's room for a couple of sixpacks in there.

BringBackUsenet 2025-12-28 17:34

Even more of a headscratcher than Vegas' decision to use this crap, it's the media continuing to report on Musk's bullshit.

Quirky_Tradition_806 2025-12-28 17:41

I'd like to learn the identity of the anonymous tech bro who donated the vehicles? Is this a way of boosting the sales data? I wonder if this masks a fraud?

DALLE4K 2025-12-28 18:12

It will def stop 45 and 9mm

IcyHowl4540 2025-12-28 23:36

It's Ben Horowitz, that came out later :)

Quirky_Tradition_806 2025-12-29 02:23

Is he a Tesla investor?

EczachlyLB 2025-12-29 09:24

Bhahahahaha ELON = 🤡

ClubZealousideal9784 2025-12-29 16:30

Tesla's lock and catch on fire. Can you imagine watching your partner burn alive with no way to get them out becuase it's bulletproof? Plot of a vengeance movie.
