I would have blurred the plate just in case, nice catch, there seems to be a model with and another without side mirrors circulating?? Or maybe I saw others wrong
With mirrors Cybercar (available to consumers under $30k) without mirrors Cybercab (for businesses and rental fleets)? I wish

Yessir
Eeek sorry on the plates
These engineering prototypes have steering wheels and mirrors
https://preview.redd.it/otleke3ryqlg1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12d127caa534229a69b4a0471021786008819b9e
Don't apologize. It's a plate assigned to a manufacturer, not a person.
Block the plates? Why? It’s a test vehicle and not in private property
i want that job
Why would you worry about a manufacturer plate. They are not assigned to individuals.
Does anyone know what autonomous driving level they are certified at?
Estimated price?
Really? They don't track what driver was assigned to what car in case of a breach of nda or employment contract? What would stop him from just allowing op from taking photos from the interior then? Looking for the surroundings and face/clothes is harder than searching a plate
It looks like a cardboard car
It looks cheap and ugly
For the privacy of the employee, in case the plate is linked to him in some way and tesla doesn't like him something from him
I do. Level Zero
I wish they made an actual Coupe version of this car for sale, I would buy one instantly
Level hallucinations.
I wanna slam this on bags so badly
Yeah this is waaay mo cooler! /s https://preview.redd.it/reb9jmkp4rlg1.jpeg?width=588&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3fb374276932fc5b6dde4fab5f720a4b7ebfd9d
They need to be drivable to be testable
People digging on the look need to see the alternative https://preview.redd.it/wyo4x7g25rlg1.jpeg?width=588&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0a6157ab5793dba82431c844fa57616f28d0155
I'm sure someone inside Tesla does, but the state won't know. They just know "manufactures plate xyz = tesla."
What do you mean? It is a Coupe and it will be for sale?
My wording was confusing, I guess. I was saying that it would be cool if cybercabs with steering wheel would be available for sale and it definitely would be popular
Junkly- ugly junk
they used the font from cyberpunk 2077
Yeah, Waymo looks way better
I disagree, but respect your opinion.
Are you serious or did you forget your “/s”
Like any used car 🤷♂️
In 5 years you probably won't be able to buy any Tesla that has a steering wheel other than maybe the roadster if it ever comes out. In 10 years I don't think they'll even be bothering with something like the roadster and absolutely nothing will have a steering wheel. I'm annoyed they're getting rid of the Model S because now that their self driving is actually good enough to use reliably, I was planning on getting the next version of it. As much as I love what they're doing, the Model 3 just isn't a nice car.
That is very possible. The one with steering wheel is less restricted by law
<30k allegedly
6ey 👀🏳️🌈?
Oh good to know then thanks Edit: Well, I just realised this doesn't totally address the problem I mentioned, is the driver an employee of tesla or the state? If tesla then what I mean is if tesla doesn't like him allowing photos at all and they easily identify him by the plate they can easily take action on him directly
it looks like it has downs
It’s so slick 🔥
Is there even an organization that certifies autonomous driving levels?
Exactly 😂 😂 😂
This would be thr dumbest move Tesla could ever do.
The bumpers also appear to be unpainted urethane for that mad max throw away car vibe. How can this idea possibly fail? 🥹😆
Just like the cybertruck which was supposed to be 40k 🫣
Respectfully disagreeing? Unheard of on Reddit. But seriously, it is nice to have discussions like these where everyone can just share their thoughts without being right or wrong.
He’s really desperate to have Marquees shaving his head huh? Mind of wished MKBHD would have said he will shave his head if the Roadster comes out this year. Maybe that would have pushed them to “finally do it”
Can’t wait to own one
What do these cars have that allows them to get unsupervised FSD?
They’re driving on public roads what are you talking about😭
Ahhhh the Chester mobile. Coming to elementary schools near you…..
The inside of a Waymo feels like a higher end experience than an uber or taxi. Will the cyber cab feel the same way?
The inside of those jaguars don’t look nice to me
These things look so cool, but they gotta ditch those wheel covers. They look like half an Oreo cookie.
So tesla went from S3XY to puke on sight.
Have you ever seen a bus/van/truck with a sign on the back saying something like "Did Indrive good? Call (company number) to rate me", well, the bus is driving on public roads but if you post a picture and don't blur the number he will still get a bunch of troll reviews from social media that can affect his work position. In this case it's like closed betas in videogames, if you signed an nda but you or someone else leaked a video online with your id visible they go for you directly and legally punish you
Certified but who? Dirty Tesla on YouTube just showed a video on Austin Texas of a completely autonomous ride ( he was in the passenger seat, no one in the driver seat). Was a model Y, but I'd imagine works about the same as this. They're only allowed to operate in certain areas where the governments there allowed them (this one was Austin Texas)
Genuine question. If the cyber cab came out today. In what states would it be legal to drive in?
But then the cybercabs are not unsupervised yet? I cannot really get what is the reality. Loads of posts on X claiming fully autonomous cybercabs are running around and then this??? Help me understand!!!!
One of these cars is a functional robotaxi in several cities. Not hard to guess which one just by appearance alone.
Waymo looks like what you would expect a functional robotaxi to look like. The Tesla shows that what looked cool in 80s scifi films doesn't look so cool when you put it on the street in real life.
That’s a terrible comparison, who’s gonna contact anybody based on a manufacturer plate? That doesn’t make sense. I’m sure Tesla told all these people ahead of time that they will be in public and strangers will take photos of them, because the car is new and a hot topic at the moment with robotaxis becoming more mainstream. When I worked at Tesla they warned us that there’s a possibility of people waiting for employees to leave the factory and trying to ask questions that break NDA, either just ignore them or say “I’m under NDA, sorry”, same thing here
Why are they always so dirty? I feel like the appearance wouldn't be hated on so much if they'd just send it through a car wash every once in a while. Every pic I've seen of them looks like they've been driven through hell lol
WHO THE HELL WANTS A 2 DOOR CAB , CMON
Exactly what they guy said to me “sorry can’t talk about it but take all the pictures you want, just no interior”
Yea that’s what I figured, this dude in the replies is freaking out over nothing lol
Yeah the one not driven by literally ex prisoners from Philippines 😂
Tesla already has un-manned Model Y's around Austin. Try to keep up with the news?
Cameras with washers.
There are unsupervised Model Y Robotaxis in Austin. This is the Cybercab - a different name and car. These are still pre-production test vehicles.
The vast majority of rideshare rides (up to 90%) are 1-2 people.
Are you complaining that the car is inexpensive and easily repairable?
It's the lighting. In person and when clean, the gold is pretty cool.
Will this get rid if Uber or Lyft if partner with them you think?
Regardless I wish people would actually use descriptive words when saying why they do or don’t like things but i guess that takes some effort and people prefer effortless responses. For example I like the side profile shape and covered rear with the divot giving it a muscular look. I think the giant gold wheels are off-putting to many but it does sell a very prototype look no other manufacturer has ever brought to a production car and i applaud Tesla foe trying something new. I think the champagne color wont age well, just look at older cars in that color and they almost exclusively are the least desirable.
A steering wheel and a supervisor (human)
If it has a steering wheel? All of them.... Without a steering wheel, literally none of them
lol
"unsupervised", except for the remote operate and the chase vehicle right?
Yes, the NHTSA https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/2022-05/Level-of-Automation-052522-tag.pdf
Tesla have confirmed that remote operation is impossible except for high level commands (eg. Turn right here) and there aren't any chase cars, the riders getting the Unsupervised robotaxis have confirmed that. What IS limited is where you can get an Unsupervised ride to. Users have noticed that they get paired with an Unsupervised robotaxi only when they select a small area as dropoff I believe. That is probably because they have pre-set parking options mapped out in that area.
Scientific studies say 90% of all cab riders, LoL
ya. do test
That's the way that it was a couple months ago. Here's someone getting one recently. I've seen them up and down the street I live next to as well. There's no such thing as "remote operation" for Waymo or Tesla. They both can only respond to inputs telling them where to go, but the Driver is in control at all times. [https://youtu.be/oGLZlndLPlo?si=hHzTGi1fcHESmwEf](https://youtu.be/oGLZlndLPlo?si=hHzTGi1fcHESmwEf)
I had a Cadillac ELR and wow was that thing great.
wouldn't it be illegal in all states because of the lack of rearview glass?
> Yes, the NHTSA No, NHTSA does not certify autonomous cars. The numbers you linked are the SAE International standard J3016, but again nobody certifies to that standard, its a classification system. Next time don't answer your own questions, let people who have researched the answer help you out.
Steeting wheel + sporty wheels and optional metallic paint like quicksilver = im selling my M3 instantly and take that one. I don’t need the size of M3 for my daily driving, a coupe is perfect.
No ... Rearglass isn't required as long as you have proper mirrors that can view behind the vehicle... A lot of work trucks (like sprinter style) don't have rear glass, neither do armored vehicles (like Loomis for example).
Oh true
Is it only in one color? That champagne color looks terrible, that's the crappy color that all the leftover Chevy Impala are on the dealership lot The car is fairly tasteless and kinda ugly
The only issue I have with it is if it’s a dedicated cab, shouldn’t it have a more boxlike rear to max suitcase space?
"If you're gonna turn a car into a ~~time machine~~ robotaxi why not give it some style?" --Albert Einstein
It just looks dirty and is in poor lighting. Someone else in this thread [posted](https://www.reddit.com/r/teslamotors/comments/1rex411/spotted_a_cybercab/o7fwhti/) the best pic I've seen yet of one, and I think it looks sexy.
Polestar 4 also doesn't have [rear glass](https://thedriven.io/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Polestar-4-rear-view.webp). I think it's a stupid idea for a passenger car, even for a self-driving one*, but it's not disqualifying. *Rear window doesn't just benefit the driver-- it also benefits the driver of the car behind them, as they can see through the entire car in front of them and get an early indication of when traffic may be slowing and braking may be required. Sure, you can hug the left side of the lane a little and peer around them that way, but the point is it's a visibility/safety reduction for no real benefit.
Do you have a source for that stat? And does it apply just in the US, or RoW where non-cab ways of getting around are more prevalent (and therefore cabs are more likely to be used to transport families)?
Just because it's what you'd "expect" doesn't mean it looks better. Frankly, in 2026, I'd "expect" them to not need to tack bits on to the exterior to make it work. The whole tacked-on-bits look is what's reminiscent of the [80s scifi films](https://drivewayenthusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iStock-1183370197-scaled.jpg), not the sleek integrated look.

Maybe it can’t go through a car wash
Warranty voided
Thanks. As I thought, it's specific to the US. Though I did do some research, and it seems like RoW may not be too much higher-- per your data, average US occupancy is 1.475, but the highest I've found is Finland at 1.6. So maybe only having two seats isn't as big a deal as I imagined.
Tesla needs a new design team. Preferably one without the taste of a 13 year old edge lord.
Saw one on Hanover in Palo Alto. Gold. Meh.
The ones that are running without a safety driver have a further down the line version of FSD compared to the private vehicles
Looks like a POS.
none of them are driving the cars remotely 😭😭😭 do u guys ever feel shame on being wrong about so many things or when you find out you're mistaken do u just power through - im genuinely curious
I would buy tf out of this
Does the cybercab upgraded vision hardware? Or maybe even radar or LiDAR? Imagine how great Tesla would if they only added LiDAR for FSD.
I didn't say that it looks better (although I do). The Tesla looked good in a render, I'm sure. The DeLorean is a bad comparison because it was not made in the future in the film and thus not representing what a car of the future would look like. I just think that Tesla's vision of the future is very naive. Mud will still exist as it does now, and a "futuristic" car will look ridiculous and out of place, as it does in those pictures.
Nothing hardware wise that gives an edge?
Gotta be one of the worst looking cars I’ve ever seen
Slick. Just put it out for production already.
Actually I'd consider buying one for myself just like it is. We still don't have a legal framework for self driving only cars but when that happens this car has a lot of advantages for a daily driver. Plus I have this image of flipping travel upside down. Imagine jumping into a car to take a trip late at night to nap the entire drive and wake up ready to go in the morning. You could take a trip across the US enjoying your days and only needing hotels for stays of more than a day. That enjoyment could be fishing all day, visiting tourist traps, hiking the mountains or whatever, but all with the entire day available. This is something that I can see resulting in a big change in the way people travel, especially if the trip involves more than 6 hours of drive a day. Instead of leaving in the morning, leave at night and sleep through the trip. We are already at the point that FSD is actually safer and will be driver free soon. The problem is most of Tesla's cars are not comfortable for extended trips. I haven't seen Cybercab in person yet but it actually looks to be a bit roomier.
BYD is #1
I don't care much about a cars looks, they are basically carbon copies of each other these days. Pickups from the big three are basically identical when viewed from a distance. Just the other day I walked up to a car in the packing lot that I thought was my Honda Passport but turned out to be some other manufactures black box. Thus I'd be satisfied that something looks a bit different. For my Honda I've actually thought about putting a flag the luggage carrier rail just to make it stand out in the parking lot.
In addition, families are having less kids worldwide... In the US, there's no reason to have two big SUVs... So the cab as second car makes some sense.
What a dorky looking thing
S3XCY, you have to add Cybertruck in. 🙂
I hope you realize they can also just send a Model Y if the ride has more than 2 people.
No. Unsupervised FSD won't just run on Cybercab. It'll run on all Tesla's cars.
What's the point of cherry-picking their only vehicle that ended up being more expensive than originally announced? Most of them are actually cheaper than originally announced.
The trunk is still large, and box-like adds cost to every ride.
There are no chase vehicles anymore, and they're not remotely driven.
Interesting
NHSTA puts a limit on 2500 / yr under current regs. But it's up to the state as well if it can be operated on the roads.
[https://www.popsci.com/technology/tesla-robotaxi-job-opening/](https://www.popsci.com/technology/tesla-robotaxi-job-opening/) \- November 2024 “As we iterate on the AI that powers them, we need the ability to access and control them remotely,” the company stipulates. To do this, software engineers will reportedly first help build a program using Unreal services that will allow Remote Operators to take over robotaxis and Optimus bots during particularly difficult and complex tasks. This will involve being “transported into the device’s world” through a “state-of-the-art VR rig,” that is still in development.ow
That’s just down the street from me. He can bring it here for service.. lol.. 😂 😉
🗑️
They’re geofenced.
But then the question becomes why develop a whole new “cab” model when they could just send Ys 100% of the time? Especially when that cab isn’t any better at being a cab?
Cybercab is easier to clean via an automated process and more efficient.
This is just like Waymo does. They don't drive them. They can tell them how to get around obstacles or out of infinite loops and so forth. Waymo walked so others could run.
I'd buy that if it came with a steering wheel and pedals. Not interested in a car I cannot drive manually, doesn't matter how good FSD will become. Shits not even activated in Europe yet.
Ok, now THAT’S cool!! 😎
No in 2024 Tesla was alluding that they were developing the tech to remotely take full control. What Waymo does is not taking control, just resolving the instructions Notice they specifically say "take over" and say Optimus in the same line ... Remember the Optimus teleoperated even?
The design for these is completely wrong, a cab should be very easy to get into and out, auto door, large luggage space etc, not looking like some two door sports car. Another failure from tesla after the cybertruck
Is this something that is known? Even if true, surely replacing materials in the existing Y to make it more auto-cleanable would be cheaper and easier, no?
> The DeLorean is a bad comparison because it was not made in the future in the film and thus not representing what a car of the future would look like. The point isn't the underying car itself-- the point is the tacked-on bits to make it "look" like some futuristic sci-fi tech is the same approach Waymo is taking. Your previous comment said > what looked cool in 80s scifi films and that would be the tacked-on-bits look that Waymo is using, not the sleek everything-is-integrated approach Tesla has chosen.
https://youtu.be/uiDj7H5nsNo That video is a good explanation. Cybercab also has less than half the parts of a Model 3.
Because it's way cheaper. Do you want a $10 ride or a $20 ride?
Gey 045? Elon really still has beef with DJT huh
Lol "GEY 45"
how about reading my posts instead of trying to pick a few words to fit your argument? by "80s scifi films" I meant films that depict a futuristic world with cars that match the aesthetics of that futuristic society. this should have been obvious from my post, but guess not. anyway, your example, back to the future, has none of those things. doesn't matter if its "tacked on bits" or the car itself. seriously this shouldn't be that hard to understand lol Edit: actually maybe 80s was a bad decade as an example, since i was thinking more of sleek minority report style concept cars, while 80s films depict the cars of the future as more rugged. anyway, the point was that the cybercab looks like shit in real life lol
I have to say objectively these look pretty terrible
Besides, you can safely ship your kiddo and her friend from school to that after school class without having to pick them and wait for them in the parking lot. Then, bring them both home and arrive just after they have arrived. It's a win-win even for those that work for $15/h.!
They said the CyberTruck would be way cheaper too... I'll believe it when I see it. Seems to me they'd be better off just stripping down a Y to make it cheaper, or even transitioning it to a new manufacturing process if needed.
There is no indication that ever happened. It's also extremely ridiculous to say that Tesla is doing all the driving of these remotely when FSD consumer level is so insanely good.
You're kidding right .Tesla isn't even at level 3 self drive and ya think your gonna sleep overnight wake up all fresh ready for the day.more likely won't ever wakey ever if you try that shit in a Tesla. Good luck
Is there no rear view? For manual driving at least.
The cybertruck can now be had for 59k USD.
I want one
“Gey-45”
Well you apparently can't see what is possible in the future. There was a time when people rarely traveled more than 50 miles from their home. Today that is less than an hours drive in most places.
They said Model 3 would be drastically cheaper than Model S and it was. They said Model Y would be drastically cheaper than Model X and it was. Why would you think this would be any different? It's a much smaller and generally cheaper car with less content. Just the size and efficiency alone make it much cheaper to build/operate than a stripped down Model Y could ever be.
Yah but not in anything Tesla has to offer . It's gonna take a bit more than just a camera system to conquer autonomous driving again good luck with your snooze on your Tesla .leve an address I'll send flowers
It looks sleek and sexy to me. Nothing about it looks cheap, definitely minimalist.
Did the passenger puke 🤣
Same guy i just seen today. I didn’t know wtf it was 😭😂😂 shit look exotic
Do you own and drive a Tesla with FSD or are basing your comments on something else?
You can't have full unsupervised driving using just a camera system. Try driving 60mph on the highway and suddenly you go blind
I agree with you.
