That "all-wheel stability" line is confusing, as this is a rear-wheel-drive trim level.

SparkySpecter 2025-04-12 11:39

Could be a different suspension.

specter491 2025-04-12 12:09

Very watered down version. You save $10k and get 350 miles unless you opt for the soft cover then it's 362. But you lose front ventilated seats, rear passenger display, premium interior, premium center console, premium front headlamps, 3500lbs of towing, leather seats, 7 instead of 15 speakers, and no outlets in the trunk or frunk. It's a massive downgrade

lastlaugh100 2025-04-12 12:17

also lose air suspension

paulwesterberg 2025-04-12 12:19

Tesla AI is learning how to lie like a car dealer.

Harryhodl 2025-04-12 12:51

So basically like when u buy a basic bitch gas truck that has no options. You know the ones people use for work truck fleets. I don’t know why Tesla is supposed to provide a bunch of options for free.

specter491 2025-04-12 12:52

Yeah major downgrade. They need to make the premium version with the extra mileage. They are so stingy with the battery in this truck

sunny_tomato_farm 2025-04-12 12:57

Just give us a family sized SUV plz.

SheSends 2025-04-12 13:11

Who buys a work truck without outlets in the bed anymore? How are you going to do... you know... work if you can't plug anything in? Silverado EV WT trims offers up to 11 outlets including a 240, 12,500lbs of towing, actual AWD, and up to 492 miles of range in their basic bitch trucks that go for around the same as this truck, ~67k for a new 5wt with 450 miles. Idk wtf Tesla is even trying to do here.

CommunismDoesntWork 2025-04-12 13:23

It's also a massive price decrease.

elephantskilledme 2025-04-12 13:41

Why is that? The Chevy EV has almost 500 miles of range.

OSUfan88 2025-04-12 13:56

I believe it’s the same battery. Wright and tires are the main difference I believe.

M3tl 2025-04-12 14:34

you might be confusing stability with traction control. they’re talking about adaptive coil suspension in all four wheels, so technically true

THIESN123 2025-04-12 14:52

70+kwh more of battery does that.

elephantskilledme 2025-04-12 14:58

I understand that. My question is why doesn’t Tesla add more battery to the truck. Even with the “extra battery pack”, that’s no longer available, what’s keeping them from longer range

THIESN123 2025-04-12 15:00

I'm guessing the initial reason was too make more trucks(battery constrained) because there was great demand. Now that the demand is down, maybe they should increase the battery size/range to bring demand back.

elephantskilledme 2025-04-12 15:02

Good thought. Never saw it that way.

specter491 2025-04-12 19:38

I know. That was literally the first thing I listed. But you're losing a lot for that $10k

specter491 2025-04-12 19:39

They can add more range by adding more batteries. Hummer and the Silverado have massive battery packs and they get awesome range. The exoskeleton was supposed to save Tesla a shitload of money. But it obviously didn't work out. And the 4860 battery cell didn't have the specs they were hoping for. It's probably the same reason the roadster hasn't released

GreyGreenBrownOakova 2025-04-13 07:13

>Hummer and the Silverado have massive battery packs and they get awesome range.  hence they cost a fortune, get shitty mileage and nobody buys them. The people demanding 500 miles of range whilst towing a boat were never going to get an EV anyway.

GreyGreenBrownOakova 2025-04-13 07:21

Not everybody uses electrical tools, you can add outlets if you need them. Chevy looses a fortune on each EV, the sale price isn't indicative of what it cost to make. It's a low volume marketing exercise for the benefit of shareholders, not something Tesla should base their pricing on.

SheSends 2025-04-13 12:44

I'm not saying Tesla should base their prices on other guys. I'm saying that for this price, there are *better* options for a work truck. This is just a "poor man's" version of the cybertruck that's still about 5-10k too expensive for everything that they removed. Why would I care if Chevy is losing money? They're bringing pretty good products to the market and are able to weather early loses as a large manufacturer. If I were a contractor, I'm not buying this super barebones truck if I could get one with more options and range for the same price. All I'm getting is name, software, and possibly an easy to spot billboard if I wrap it. I'd rather the utility, 5k lbs more towing, AWD, and the range that Tesla boasted early on would come to the cybertruck.

GreyGreenBrownOakova 2025-04-13 14:11

>Why would I care if Chevy is losing money?  Because they will stop building them, then servicing and spare parts will be difficult. The 3Y/36K Mi warranty is already shitty. > more options and range for the same price.  Work Truck Max Range is $78,500, (If you can find a dealer offering it at that price ) $8,500 more than this Cybertruck. >I'd rather the utility The range only comes by Chevy adding a massive battery. It's not utilitarian to charge a freaking 205.0 kWh battery.

SheSends 2025-04-13 16:18

Chevy has so many trim levels I don't see them getting rid of the silverado line up anytime soon. They're pretty invested in both companies, more so than any other EV truck manufacturer imo. Having 3 builds for everyday persons (lt, rst, and rst max) with a 4th in the making (trailboss) and 3 work truck trims is more than anyone else in this space. They have 3 pack sizes for the work truck... the 452-mile one "5wt" is 67k. Which is cheaper than the low-end cybertruck. So you can actually buy what you need instead of not having the option at all and letting a company dictate what you need. There is an even cheaper model "2wt" with 282 miles for 55k. So 2 options out of 3 for a Silverado work truck are cheaper than the cheapest cybertruck and are actually built for working people off the lot. Utility is not just range, btw... it's all the above things I mentioned that the cybertruck doesn't have.

LionTigerWings 2025-04-13 21:13

You’re also losing all wheel drive and 2 seconds of 0-60. This car competes with cars that cost 45k. Sure this will be faster than those still but they’ll have their own advantages.

GreyGreenBrownOakova 2025-04-14 03:03

It's cheap because it's a loss leader and they only make 5000 a year. First sign of a recession and they'll stop making them. Better hope they don't break down in 5 years time, because there won't be any spare parts or technicians who can fix it. See also Hummer, Rivian, Lucid. Tesla doesn't need to adjust it's price to compete with these, it needs to compete with ICE.

SheSends 2025-04-14 15:30

It hasn't even been out a full year in full production... it came out in limited numbers for the 24 model year really starting RST production in April 24. So we don't even know how many they've sold in a year yet. For a first edition, I'd say they did pretty well, considering you could only buy the RST model on the civilian side. If a recession hit, *most* companies are going to scale back their high price items. Not many will buy in that type of market. On the other hand, Tesla had to halt production during an expansion period because they over promised and under delivered, causing many people to cancel their pre-orders, including myself. I think that's more telling than stopping production during a down period. The cyber truck is under selling by [84%](https://www.forbes.com/sites/alanohnsman/2025/04/03/elons-edsel-tesla-cybertruck-is-the-auto-industrys-biggest-flop-in-decades/) compared to pre-orders and production capability. This year's sales are looking even worse.

GreyGreenBrownOakova 2025-04-15 02:03

>The cyber truck is under selling The Cybertruck is selling more than all other EV trucks combined. >it came out in limited numbers for the 24 model year all their EVs come out in limited numbers. The Hummer has been out for 5 years and sell a whopping 13,993 per year. Legacy auto continuously promise to expand EV production, [then cancel those plans.](https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/11/gm-cutting-jobs-idle-canada-electric-van-plant.html)
