I put rainex where the camera are and it works really really well
Man I just lick my finger and rub them out. Works great for cameras too.
I use a Nikon lens brush
This is especially challenging in the winter. My car has gone from stealth grey to pearl white just from all the road salt. The cameras need wiping every time I park.
Never thought about that. Interesting.
More you know!
Curious, How does it react in snowy conditions like slush and salt on roads? Does it still hold up fairly well like in summer rain conditions?
The solution is twice as many cameras, twice as long before they get too dirty. Boom. As a result of this being Reddit, this is sarcasm. I wonder what they come up with. It’s a difficult problem to solve in winter. In Florida, I can’t remember the last time I had to manually clean a camera.
I always thought an eye-lid kind of thing would be a good solutiion. We're kind of useless without our eyes, so that's what nature developed to protect them and keep them clean.
Front cameras are good. B pillar cameras may need a sprayer (already heated) Rear camera needs a sprayer and a heater. Fender cameras need a sprayer, a heater, and an IR illuminator so they can tell if they are obstructed or if it is just dark.
I used ceramic coating
I just lick them directly, also works great for cameras.
Winter time is like eating a soft pretzel!
Currently they just need to push a very simple software fix for the wiper to fix the fact that it can’t clean over the camera because the blade moves too fast for the fluid to be effective. Between the unnecessary dry wipes that smudge stuff across the glass in front of the camera and the fact that the wiper fluid is useless in that area of the blade its crazy they haven’t pushed a very simple “slow down blade while spraying” software fix. I have zero problems with the rear cameras or any cameras for that matter my only problems are with the windshield cameras.
Aside from software, this is the one issue that will truly prevent their existing fleet from having reasonable uptime. There’s the march of 9’s on safety but also the 9s on service uptime. This is clear issue they’ve been aware of for years, I can’t keep up with keeping my windshield camera clean in the winter, too much aerated salt, rain that leaves residue and wipers aren’t satisfying the dirty camera warnings. If they are serious about FSD, they should offer a retrofit when there’s a solution to FSD owners.
It's a huge problem on ALL their cars. Autopilot just doesn't work reliably when the cameras are dirty and I've been saying for years now that they need weather mitigation on all the cameras if they insist on FSD being the solution to their desires. Other car makers have put washers on their cameras, why did Tesla resist doing the same???
Not sure I’m in south Florida 😅
Well that’s not gonna help lol…just playing. Thanks. I’ll just have to try it myself.

But what about the cameras?
The trick is « Lick once, but don’t lick between each camera »
How old are your wiper blades?
I only find the rear camera needs wiping... The blindspot cameras are always fine, and I'm surprised how clean the pillar cameras manage to stay.
Hyundai/Kia patented a rotating disc that gets cleared as it moves.

Okay with different fingers?
Yes, but it’s a dangerous game!
Other companies somehow guessed dirty cameras would be a problem and came up with solutions a long time ago. Tesla: Dirty camera? whaaaat?
Rear bumper camera cleaning for M3/MY would be a godsend. I have to wipe off that camera at least four times a day.
I have the new M3, about 6 months old. The camera is hard to please.
The Cybertruck already has a camera washer in the front for the bumper camera.
They have a camera washer on the front bumper cybertruck camera.
There must be prior art on that. F1 has been using that kind of technology on their on board cameras for a couple of decades at least.
Mmm, we need this for the rear camera on the CT, not the front camera. The bumper camera isn’t even referenced in our standard view of all cameras.
I'm aware of that but the other cameras are the problem here
Or wheel spray from a semi on a two lane road, esp when there's slush. Even TACC gets degraded to 45mph in a 55 that I'd normally drive 65 on. Had to drive ~150miles of a trip with no cruise control because of this.
Funny of you to assume a Tesla owner has ever been in contact with a woman’s genitals.
Please make the windshield camera enclosure cover easier to remove for cleaning. Maybe magnets and a simple clip.
Overly cynical. It both would be more expensive for consumers and hurt their margins, as well as being another part to break
Yeah this is an area they just can't cut corners, and I don't know what they expected, to be honest. The better FSD gets, the more painful it's going to be to have things like dirty cameras. What does it matter if it gets to be 1000x safer than an experienced human driver (and improved models and training hardware suggest it will) if it just can't perform reliably when cameras are dirty.

I agree, but that doesn't mean the comment I replied to is worth posting. Just conspiratorial brainrot
I wipe them off with a wet rag and then apply rain x on them to shed water.
Same here. Haven’t dealt with many dirty camera warnings so far this winter. Maybe once?
But is it a solution, or an actual solution?.
This might work for you. https://www.reddit.com/r/teslamotors/s/PYGFKGLLxi
Eye lids are for protecting the eyes. You don't need something that covers the whole surface. A line is enough. That said, there might be better approaches. Some type of nanomaterials might be able to prevent anything from sticking, but I don't know. They could certainly hire me to figure it out though.
Probably should ceramic coat your windshield it helps tremendously
They expected to be able to continue gathering video clips and developing the FSD without having a camera cleaning solution. They also fully expected to have to have a solution at some point -- because obviously FSD would need one to work. It just hasn't been anywhere close to a limiting factor until recently. Building the cars with a cleaning solution too soon would have cost a lot of money for no benefit. Of course it's a solvable problem. Of course they will solve it. They have probably had several solutions (or at least their broad outline) prepared for years. The only real question is whether they will do retrofits for older cars.
This is shamwow level cringe
Idiotic article. Of course it’s for all of the vehicles. My X in Ohio can’t go more than a drive or three if I’m lucky before I have to walk around and wipe the cameras. This is a very “duh” thing. Should have had it from the get go.
Solution like problem solving solution. Or solution like liquid soluble solution? Pretty clever phrasing.
Do you put it on the rear camera?
I put it on all of them
[Ultrasonic cleaning](https://www.ti.com/video/6317728222112) appears to be the most versatile and effective without requiring additional maintenance or liquid cleaners.
