They showed various models acting like a cab including Ys and Xs so I imagine the thought is they would be used as well

switch8000 2024-10-11 14:24

Ahh ok, I didn’t watch the keynote and have only seen these pics.

NoaLink 2024-10-11 14:26

Because they already make a 5 seater - the model 3.

shaggy99 2024-10-11 15:55

I found the roadster mounted as it was on Falcon Heavy amusing.

Carry-Valuable 2024-10-11 16:54

Voodoo & Serena; blood is pumping

[deleted] 2024-10-11 23:57

I really hope they make a model with a steering wheel as well.

[deleted] 2024-10-12 04:40

Too many red flags with this tbh. A cab with only two seats? Extremely impractical doors. These are just two examples of how not to make a robot taxi…

[deleted] 2024-10-12 06:37

The vehicle in its current state will not meet NHTSA approval standards. The interior design will require significant modifications. However, as a concept car, its primary objective is to capture the imagination and generate interest.

redfoxhound503 2024-10-12 07:37

Tell me how you would make a robot taxi? 80% to 90% of rides are for 1 to 2 passengers. I would think the doors were made like that to allow for the best in and out experience.

Ieatzgifaler 2024-10-12 12:21

85% af cab fares are 1 to 2 people. You do realize model Y will also be used when more passangers are required

wizardofkoz 2024-10-12 15:40

Can you provide some examples of interior modifications required?

[deleted] 2024-10-12 16:54

The steering wheel for emergencies is a major one. Airbags for safety; it doesn't look like it has any since it's a concept. And the the very fact it's a concept alone means it will not look like that at all.

[deleted] 2024-10-12 19:11

Then what’s the point of the 2 seater

[deleted] 2024-10-12 19:14

Aren’t model 3 and Y capable of robotaxi? If so, what’s the point of a new 2 seater?

Ieatzgifaler 2024-10-12 20:30

The 85% of rides?????

SpicyWongTong 2024-10-12 20:59

Yes, probably more efficient to not drive around with an extra row of seats if so many rides have only 1-2 passengers

[deleted] 2024-10-12 21:12

You know a 4 seater can also fit 1-2 people right?

[deleted] 2024-10-12 21:15

If you had a model 3 or y already, which is apparently capable of robotaxi, why downgrade to a two seater? It makes 0 sense

SpicyWongTong 2024-10-12 21:21

As a single guy, I kind of like having a 2 seater for going to the gym/work/etc the 95% of the time I’m alone in the car. Kinda like my old 911, it was tiny but made sense for my daily drive

puffindatza 2024-10-12 21:30

Probably affordable option?

[deleted] 2024-10-12 22:16

But it’s robotaxi only, as opposed to a driveable car. So, still a downgrade and makes no sense.

[deleted] 2024-10-12 22:19

911 being a two seater and this being a tel seater is the only similarity, everything else is completely different in every aspect and not a comparison at all.

puffindatza 2024-10-12 22:27

Yeah, let’s say you’re with a friend. Why would you need 4 door car when you can use a 2 door I’m not fan of musk, and more of a “I’ll believe it when I see it” I’m js option isn’t bad It should have a steering wheel for emergency’s or at least emergency control over the breaks

[deleted] 2024-10-12 22:31

Let’s say you’re by your self, why do you need a 2 seater when you can use a 1 seater?

puffindatza 2024-10-12 22:34

Okay. It’s clear you’re complaining and whining

[deleted] 2024-10-12 22:36

My point is a two seater design for a robotaxi is incredibly pointless, and no one has been able to give a good explanation as to why it’s superior to preexisting models. I’m an early investor, so it’s not that I want Tesla to fail.

puffindatza 2024-10-12 22:40

I’m assuming they’re just taxis… Possibly.. just want them to have a distinct look. Similar to how old yellow cabs use to look. I’m just a Redditor man Idk why yall act liking experts.. it’s fucking Reddit. Jesus Christ

Ieatzgifaler 2024-10-13 05:45

But a 2 seater is cheaper and faster to produce and cheap to run, which in turn makes the service cheaper for the customer. There is no reason to have extra materials and batteries on the road, if it’s not needed.

shittybtcmemes 2024-10-13 09:04

what a piece of junk.

_Smashbrother_ 2024-10-13 20:46

Cheaper to make. Less weight so can go further.

[deleted] 2024-10-13 21:07

Not impressed. Basically a movie set golf cart, but not as fun

[deleted] 2024-10-13 21:12

I don't see this as affordable. For who? Who is buying a car without steering? If there's no steering, is Tesla accepting all liability, so you don't have to have it insurance anymore? Maybe then it's cheaper. Why would a buyer need insurance, as they can't be blamed for an accident the car causes.

puffindatza 2024-10-13 21:26

If they’re gonna be sold like a regular Tesla than, sure. It being called a “cybercab” to me, sounds like Musk wants to compete against Lyft and Uber. So I’m assuming it’ll just be a cab service, in that case. Having options with varying price ranges might be helpful? Similar to how Uber and Lyft have carpool service which is an even cheaper option that allows you to share rides with people. The steering wheel is needed. I’m not gonna disagree there, but I doubt these are finished products as well and it still might take time for them to even be rolled out

Old-Nothing-5146 2024-10-13 23:35

I I really think the Cybercab but ugly

johnyeros 2024-10-14 01:15

Door are impractical I agree. However stats show 80% of ride are single rider. They should def make some 4 seater though but this tiny coupe don’t have a lot of space

BernabethWarners 2024-10-14 15:44

genuine question: how can you park this off-street? Often people keep vehicles tightly packed in a driveway/garage. I don't think you can really override its decision-making.

wizardofkoz 2024-10-14 16:31

Xbox controller

Aggressive-Land-8884 2024-10-15 12:59

Bro it certainly has captured my imagination and generated SIGNIFICANT interest. Let’s get these bad boys out there on the road!!
