Bought used 23 MYP but found CARFAX minor damage report. What to do?

CConDemonTime | 2026-02-28 15:42 | 24 views

Update: they’re looking into if they can make an exception for a VIN transfer once I RESPECTFULLY called out the fact they falsely listed and sold me a damaged vehicle. Let’s see how honest Tesla is. Update #2: I WON THE CASE lmao. Got Tesla to acknowledge that they misrepresented the listing and got a full refund. They offered a 4% discount but I denied. They literally listed it for 6% (wow) off once I rejected on the site and listed as Repaired Pre Owned. Sold instantly (kind of crazy to me how folks will take a 1-2k discount for a repaired). Have new 23 MYP VIN for almost the exact same price as the original VIN, 30% less mile at 25k, and 3 months of Super Charging / FSD. Praise Wallstreet for QE pressures.

If you bought it pre owned from Tesla it comes with a warranty. I’d just be checking whatever that damage was to see if it’s fixed. What is the minor damage?

CConDemonTime 2026-02-28 15:50

Yeah CARFAX shows minor damage.

StartledPelican 2026-02-28 15:58

Does CARFAX provide more details? Is minor damage, like, wheel rash? Or rock chips?

CConDemonTime 2026-02-28 16:00

It doesn’t specify, unfortunately. Advisors said they have zero insight. :(

Damn. That's rough. Sorry mate. Personally, I'd try to reject and get matched to something else. But I'm a fairly risk adverse person. Best of luck!

Thanks for the opinion, g. 😢

Your options are pretty clearly in front of you. Take the vehicle as is, or walk away and lose the deposit. Which is better for you?

CConDemonTime 2026-02-28 16:28

I’m trying to get the delivery fee and deposit transferred to a cleaner VIN. Wonder how this clown show will pan out. Stay tuned 😭🤣

In future, don’t commit to a car without knowing its VIN first.

CConDemonTime 2026-02-28 16:48

Fair point. Did NOT anticipate Tesla to sell damaged vehicles as clean VINs. Pretty shady stuff. Ran the CARFAX after the fact.

Adguru555 2026-02-28 16:53

Walk away. Always calculate what your buyer would consider should ever decide to sell.

Flakarter 2026-02-28 20:48

I wouldn’t care about the deposit. I would ditch the car unless I was certain of the extent of the damage, certain that it was really minor, and certain that I was going to hold the car for so long that the minor damage wouldn’t affect future resale value very much.

globesdustbin 2026-02-28 22:31

I think that’s the problem. It’s going to impact future resale so you have to figure out if that’s already accounted for in the price you are paying.

globesdustbin 2026-02-28 22:32

My mistake when I bought a preowned was not taking screenshots of the listing before it vanished.

CConDemonTime 2026-02-28 22:33

Love this logic. Well said.

Wheel rash and rock chips aren’t typically considered minor damage as carfax gets their info from the collision shop that fixes and reports it in the database. Most likely a fender bender, check the panels for misalignment and if anything looks off make a service appointment to get it fixed.
