Hope it last you until HW5 is out. Just a few more years. Its late into HW4 life cycle to jump in.
Love it - here’s hoping you get another 200,000 or more
Awesome post! Thank you so much for sharing and your data collection.
love to see real world positive experiences. thank you for sharing this.
Your total cost for maintenance in peanuts compared to and ICE car with the same mileage. Nice 👍
Holy moly, isn’t 18% degradation in 6years a bit much?
I’m at 210K on my ‘23 7-seat Y, 285-ish W/mi. A friend at 240K on their ‘24 YP (no idea of Wh/mi) Also my ‘18 AWD 3 at 195K, 272Wh/mi. All keeping on keeping on. High odds you’ve got years left.
This is a joke, right? People tweak out about 8-10% in less than a year, I’d say 18% in 6 years is spot on.
Lol my 21 y is sitting at 83% with only 26k miles
Good record keeping on the costs! What did your total come out to for out of pocket maintenance? Did you also track charging and insurance costs? It'd be nice to compare the total cost of ownership to ICE vehicles.
Love this. Very insightful.
Nah, genuine question. Im in market for used m3, so I was just curious. 10% a year is terrifying, tbh
Why was one alignment $275 and the other $200?
Then research a bit more before stepping into the EV market. 18% in 6 years is perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned about. No EV battery degrades 10% a year…if that was the case OP’s battery would have been 40% left.
Ooof. You need to drive it more so it won’t look too bad considering the mileage
What’s your daily charge limit at?? I’ve been running 70% for a while but I think im gonna do 60% maybe even 55 for long term longevity
I’m saying man these things are TIME dependent not miles dependent they need to be driven. They are meant to be workhorses
Who drives 80k miles per year??
Fax
Pros. I actually retired it to my wife end of September, to go full 3-row. I’m up to about 8000/month, now. New vehicle (Vistiq) is +/-39K already.
Not worth it as studies have shown.
PS The 3 is nearly all personal miles. I’ve slowed substantially on it as business started & ramped. I logged 48K the first 12 months Sep18 to Aug19. Bunch of cross continent stuff, including Sound of Silence rally in Custer.
At 10k miles they replaced the "big" battery? Overall pretty standard/expected maintenance items. Really appreciate you sharing. Probably another drive unit oil change and youll be good for a long while!
Curious why you switched from Vredesteins to Continental?
I got the same Contis in the same size put on the same month as you and paid only $850. I'd recommend a dedicated tire shop, specifically Discount Tire matching Walmart price.
Didn’t understand the battery degradation part. Anyone kind enough to help me out here?
Also, how does mileage affect degradation? Is it clearly more time dependent than mile dependent?
Lol my 2024 just crossed 40k miles with a month to go before it's two years old. Battery is sitting at 11% loss, but still changes to 303 miles and epa was 308. Tracking wise it was 83kwh nominal new and now usable is around 74-75 (could be better in spring and summer). My 2018 mid range with 115k miles is at 52 kwh usable nominal and was new 64.1 kwh. So like 18%?, it's been this way since around 85k miles and been holding. My wish is they would work on lfp. I watch my friends model 3 lfp closely and that thing with 90k miles is still charging to 259 miles and shows 58 kwh, new was 60.7 kwh nominal. 4%?.. if my 2018 ever dies I know the swap I'm doing to it. Ive found multiple lfp packs locally for around 3500$ with low miles at local recyclers.
I’m most impressed with the miles you’re getting out of your tires
Reminder as to why I converted. Thanks!
I just put on my 4th set of those Continentals on my 3. Been getting roughly the warranty 50k out of them. Last set I took closer to 3/32 or a bit less, and was around 55k miles. Overall it is a good tire, really solid in rain and snow even though it is a performance all season.

How do you like vistiq compared to Tesla? Software, drive quality, charging etc?
Range in miles?
What did you do at 130k? Supercharging / 100% charges??
Nav isn’t bad but that whole aspect is huge step down. Not satellite imagery option, traffic heat map only show for current leg & current selected path, 1/2 the screen area (same width, way shorter), can’t add waypoints while in motion even via hands free voice to text, way poorer charger location integration. The voice to text for address entry is better. There’s some driver assist stuff that just forgets the custom setting I enter, reverts to default. Which is bad because phantom braking is WAY worse, multiple times emergency braking over reach, by a lot, and lock up brakes dangerously. :/ It’s quick, like 3 AWD quick. But it’s still and SUV, so corners accordingly. Tires are massive, so smooths out road roughness better. I get better range, functionally for my work use case. Chargers about 65 home/35 DC where as Y was 50/50. I use almost exclusively SC, still. Pita using an adapter, futzing with app every time. Slower miles/min. But acceptable I’m happy with it, form facter way better for work. Plus this is TX so they like the chrome drip everywhere 🤷♂️
Thank you! I like their outer look but haven't driven one yet.
11k miles with a set of tires? Are you doing donuts every time you park
Wow, well done with the record keeping and mileage... I have a 09/2020 MYLR "only" 105K miles. Max battery capacity is probably not too far off from yours.
For the gearbox fluid change, is it recommended to not change the fluid unless stated by the car? I’m a bit skeptical about ‘lifetime’ fluid but do kinda get it in a case of a EV due to less moving parts and it being closed off. For the cabin heating service, any idea why the supermanifold had to get replaced?
I mean basically the closer to 50% SOC (more like 55 since Tesla is known for secret buffers below 0) is the happiest the battery is.
Thanks for the excellent work! I also own a 2021 MY and love the car. How does there amount compared to a regular ICE? Maybe I’m just not used to having spend a lot on maintenance. Seems like a lot. Maybe it’s just my perspective.
lol
Yes
Has the words "so far". It is my current set.
I am an idiot Tnx
So it degraded to about 82% in nearly 200k mi? That's very good.
I don’t believe that odometer, personally I live 3 miles from my office and grocery stores,, yet my Tesla thinks I drive thousands of miles a year.. so don’t believe the odometer in the teslas
Thx
I LOVE this post. The data and everything. I sitting at 51,000 in my 24 MYP. I have always loved this car but have had momentary anxiety about longevity. Hoping to get at least that much out of mine
Awesome post! Thanks a lot for the details. I'm sure it's helpful for the other owners. I should start using mine more..Haven't reached 6k miles yet total...1.5 year owning the car lol. Wfh n shit..
Amazing. I’m at 35k and I hear creaking noises when turning wheel. Is this covered under warranty?
Love the analysis
Americans easy in belgium we do that in 5y😂
Telegraph
Yes. Check the vin I don’t know how old your car is but the control arms might be covered with a free replacement
Woah, we are at almost the exact same mileage. lol Just hit 175,803 today.
Appreciate it.
It won’t make any appreciable difference to your battery life. Especially if you’re usually charging Level 2 at home
I use trickle charging 😂 well anyways I might change back to 70 idk
Do whatever you want. It won’t make any difference. Age is harder on batteries than anything any charging scheme can prevent or rectify. You are being overly cautious. 20%-80% are the sweet spots for Tesla batteries.
