2021 Model Y LR - 180 miles of range?!

I have a 2021 Model Y Long Range with about 78,000 miles. I went on a road trip recently and noticed that the trip battery calculation showed a dramatic battery usage estimate. I was on the way home to Florida from Georgia (somewhat downhill) at both 3 a.m. (65° F) and 12:00 p.m. (78°F). Full Self Driving, Standard Mode, 75 mph average. No traffic at night. I also had my wife in the car, and another \~200lbs of luggage. (At most) no roof racks or attachments. I calculated the estimated range using the amount of miles left until the next charger, the current charge, and the estimated arrival charge. (Which I later verified or adjusted as the actual arrival charge) From the samples I took, I calculated around 180 miles of highway range. Is this normal? Currently performing a battery health test. The energy app showed higher usage from the driving portion than rated. Everything else was at or below rated, except for climate, which showed a negligible increase over rated.

Very normal. The test where the range is derived from was performed at 55mph. 75mph encounters 85% more air resistance than 55mph

Do people not research these cars at all? Highway speeds consume battery like crazy, this isn’t new or hidden information.

I’ve read plenty of resources online with reviewers showing much higher range at similar driving speeds. Factory range is 326, which I know is not realistic, but 180? EDIT: My post lists variables which can affect range, showing that I did do research.

Please provide just 1 link to support your findings, because it doesn’t exist.

That disagrees with basic physics. Unless Tesla has figured out how to bend the fabric of our reality. Ummm

Oh I thought you said your average was 75

So I should expect a 64 mile increase in range if I go 5 mph slower?

NiceBench9100 2026-03-16 03:59

Yes, you will find that if you have a low charge that the car will give you prompts like “drive 65mph to arrive with X% of range”

I’m not stating that I’m expecting my range to be similar to the 326 mile estimate, I’m only asking if under the conditions I provided, the range I am receiving seems typical.

Well, I’ll let you know what the health test indicates.. Maybe I was just trying to convince myself to buy a new one :p I’ve seen a few posts here and there that the 21’s have had battery issues, but maybe this is overblown like most echo chambers.
