1. If you need a new car now, get one.
2. If the YL is out of your range, or you don't need the additional space, get the current Y.
3. There are no guarantees the YL will come to the US, but it is likely. It likely would not be until the second half of 2026 or early 2027.
4. The 0.99% seems pretty good and it could get worse...but it could also get better. Tesla uses these incentives multiple times throughout the year and historically, when one goes away, another one inevitably comes that is as good or better. Their sales have not been great, so perhaps something comparable will be around when the YL comes out. No guarantees though.

Always wait. When you think you should pull the trigger, wait 6mo more

Thanks for the thoughts.
I don’t need it right now, I’ll be keeping my truck. It just makes sense to have a Tesla as a second car for daily driving. Mostly attracted to the 0.99% offer right now.
The YL probably makes more sense since it’s 6 seats but I’m wondering if it’s going to be 60k+ starting price, which seems a little high. The Y is already around 50k for Premium AWD.

You’ll be waiting awhile for the YL. Just get a Y now (assuming you need something now).

No guarantee we will even get the YL in the US. Now that the model X is being discontinued it seems like a no-brainer, but we all know how that goes…
I’m not so sure of the utility of a 7 seat Juniper. I have the regular 5 seat version, and there has to be a serious sacrifice for storage in the back.

Wait 6 months after MY L release and they’ll be 0.99%

I'd probably wait. The YL looks significantly improved in other areas than just the size.
It is a bit more expensive but the extra range will make it worth it.

Wait 6 months and get a Xmas deal on the YL

I wanted to wait for the YL but FSD transfer forced my hand...

The YL is coming this year but will be around 3-5k more in price and due to the expected initial high demand I would not expect any discounts or interest rate deals.
You sound like a 5 seater will work for your needs. I would jump on that now.

With Rivian 2 on the horizon, Tesla will introduce the L model. Otherwise give up market share.

Definitely wait for something that may or may not ever arrive. Best life advice in all situations. 👍🏻

100% possible it may never happen, but would be annoying to get the Model Y and find out in 6 months the YL is happening.

We are a family of 5 with 3 older kids, sitting 3 side by side is sometimes a bit of a fight….
Of course they have friends so not uncommon that we transport more.

Have you seen the lack of room in the back of the YL? Id go for the normie Y.

You’re much better off with a different EV. Tesla has been passed by by most manufacturers in EVs. Highly recommend something else.
Source: own a Y and a Mach-E (much better car)

The main reason for Tesla is the FSD looks loads better then other brands. The Rivian R2 looks more spacious then the Model Y though. But their self driving seems to be behind Tesla.

Like what? Looks like a stretched Y.

And you like the Mach-E better then Model Y? Care to say why? I thought Ford was dropping their EVs ?

Take a demo drive with your kids before you decide anything! Three older kids in the back seat for any length of time, especially as they grow older might be an issue.
That said, the 7-seater is probably going to be even worse.
The YL could be interesting, but I’m not sure what sort of regulatory approvals would be necessary, and how long it would take.

It has 11% longer range for one (significantly bigger battery).
And rear ventilated seats.
More boot space too.
And V2L
And more:

Much much nicer interior. I feel like interiors is really where regular car manufacturers shine. It feels like top end luxury while Tesla feels very low end.
Mach-E can use the Tesla charging network, which is really nice. Mach-E had better handling, suspension (Model Y rattles like a tin can), turn radio, driving in general.
Model Y has better storage (also a slightly bigger car) and I will say the Tesla service is top notch - how you drop your car off, scheduling appointments, etc is all really well done.
