Brutal. Insurance companies don’t drop for that kind of thing do they?! 😱

chronomega 2026-03-14 21:38

Rookie numbers pump those numbers up! Jk jk but as someone who lives in the desert I’m use to replacing the windshield on each of my vehicles like once a year

Comfortable-Mud1209 2026-03-14 21:39

Yeah, same. I think the ones for Y are made of sugar.

AZFJ60 2026-03-14 21:42

Windshields are a consumable item in the Southwest on any car.

FF351 2026-03-14 21:43

I go through one windshield a year

Famous_Ad7312 2026-03-14 21:46

Tesla windshield insurance!

SuddenBackground6127 2026-03-14 21:47

They do. Can’t tell if you’re missing the /s

WaffleHouseCEO 2026-03-14 21:49

I had 1 in 7-8 years on my m3 (piece of wood fell off a truck) 2 in 1 month on the wifes Y (rocks) and 1 in the first 3 weeks on my juniper 😂 (rocks) I swear rhe newer glass would shader if you looked at it wrong

Odubhlaoich 2026-03-14 21:49

2021 here, 5th windshield with currently to giant cracks from two different unrepairable chips.

kandosii_naast 2026-03-14 22:03

Drive Arizona freeways and you'll realize those are amateur numbers.

Gunther25470 2026-03-14 22:03

I was just in for a service and they wanted me to pay $16/mo for windshield insurance. How does that make sense? Isn’t it already covered by auto insurance?

AncientDare23 2026-03-14 22:10

How much it cost out of pocket to replace it and if tesla windshield insurance is worth it?

Famous_Ad7312 2026-03-14 22:10

Yes it is but your rates could also be affected. The Tesla insurance is a no questions asked. I cracked my windshield literally 20 minutes after taking delivery on a MY Performance two months ago. Because I had complimentary insurance for 30 days, Tesla replaced my windshield, 0 cost, 0 hassle, 0 questions. I've carried their insurance since. At $16/month, I figure my free $1600 windshield replacement covers me for about 6 years worth of insurance. If I never need to use it again, great, but with the way Tesla's burn through windshields I'm thinking I'll probably see a few replacements over time.

PositivelyNegative 2026-03-14 22:14

Arizona? Lmao same

DavidGno 2026-03-14 22:14

Here you go: https://a.co/d/01Q146BX It worked for my 2015 Chevrolet Volt and has been going strong for 10 years. Might be worth trying?

nagelk87 2026-03-14 22:15

I live in Florida which has a no deductible law if you carry comprehensive coverage. Never had rates rise for a windshield claim 🤞

Blue_Kayak 2026-03-14 22:16

Wasn’t sure if they do for windshield claims the same way for a collision claim. I’ve been lucky enough so far not to have to find out.

Schnitzhole 2026-03-14 22:17

I had full crack replacements 3 in 6 months. It was in my old subaru. Once i stopped following cars as close here in Colorado i have not had a crack for 5 years. …until last month on my new Y 🤣 I think it just happens to all cars. Cant blame the car for that unless the crack comes from the edge due to a poor install

PtrJung 2026-03-14 22:20

What does your bumper look like? I’ve been driving with a chipped windshield for 2 years. It’s down low and out of sight.

rwhe83 2026-03-14 22:25

Good thing Tesla offers insurance….

Jmauld 2026-03-14 22:30

This is 100% a you problem!

surfaceofthesun1 2026-03-14 22:31

I had 2 replacements in one year - I commute

Kronos1A9 2026-03-14 22:35

Meanwhile 4 years later haven’t replaced one

reininop 2026-03-14 22:36

You got nothing on me. I just changed mine 3 months ago and then cracked it again 3 days ago. I was able to repair this one, I think. Bought Tesla windshield insurance after the last one. With my other cars, I’ve replaced 5 windshields in 5 years and we only drive about 25k a year combined. The interstate is just a shooting gallery.

dayfroind 2026-03-14 22:47

I’ve done 2 windshields and 2 sunroof panels in 5 years on my Subaru. No windshields on my y yet, although I did run over a rake at 70mph yesterday. It’s like mad max on i70 in Denver.

FragrantExcitement 2026-03-14 22:47

No questions asked. So if there is a body sticking through the glass, I am good?

CautiousPhysics2840 2026-03-14 22:49

How much is to replace a Tesla windshield ?

Famous_Ad7312 2026-03-14 22:54

From Tesla, probably not. They aren't insuring bodies, they're insuring the glass.

_americanbull 2026-03-14 22:57

Three years and still on the fist!

Little_Ad6796 2026-03-14 23:10

Just got the first crack in mine today. Hopefully it’s repairable!

Candylicker0469 2026-03-14 23:15

7 windshields in 5 years. 2021 Model 3 bought December 2020.

adspendagency 2026-03-14 23:17

I had 4 in one year. Not bad. Model S But I literally drive my Model Y the same amount of time throughout the year and have had 0.

adspendagency 2026-03-14 23:17

Wait you are in a model Y… Damn that’s tough.

gregra193 2026-03-14 23:34

You don’t want an auto claims history for a windshield replacement.

gregra193 2026-03-14 23:34

They can raise your rate, and it will be on your CLUE report for 5+ years.

echaffey 2026-03-14 23:40

Three years in and still on the 4th

wildsnorlax1194 2026-03-14 23:55

5 years, still on my original windshield.

SuddenBackground6127 2026-03-14 23:59

I made a comp claim on another vehicle 6mo. ago and it’s giving me serious pause to even deal with them with my windshield chip/crack on my MYP. Zero at fault issues in 10+yrs.

Blue_Kayak 2026-03-15 00:00

I get it. It’s unfortunate this is the insurance industry we get to deal with.

SuddenBackground6127 2026-03-15 00:06

Tell me about it. It’s either deal with it out of pocket and keep my OEM glass then get on Teslas package or deal with insurance. Get aftermarket then I’m never really able to get back on as far as I know. I’ll be honest I haven’t done all the research. I do know I can request OEM then I’m out deductible + price difference + CLUE mark so I’m really flirting with just dealing with it myself tbh.

rsg1234 2026-03-15 00:34

Why are you replacing this? It can likely be repaired. It’s not even in the driver’s line of sight.

SmearedInk 2026-03-15 00:52

We’ve had four in three years on our Y and now our 3 just cracked too 🙄

Luther_Burbank 2026-03-15 02:24

Just fill it and move on

Chiryou 2026-03-15 02:35

Lol here in Alberta, every single vehicle suffers from a crack. They’re inevitable for us. We just live with them lol

BeganGaux 2026-03-15 02:36

Got my car last May replaced the windshield by September.

DreadWeaper 2026-03-15 02:37

Thats why i stopped tinting my front lol

ma_chief117 2026-03-15 06:10

Also a benefit of getting Tesla windshield coverage is you don’t have to argue with an insurance carrier on why they must use Tesla glass and not 3rd party glass. Had this issue with state farm and finally after a few weeks I got them to agree to replacing my windshield with Tesla glass. After that I finally signed up for the Tesla windshield coverage.

Manyconnections 2026-03-15 06:12

Following too closely increases likelihood of this happening.

ads4vivek 2026-03-15 06:20

I am soon gonna beat you to it. I am on my 2nd windshield in 5 months. When I last posted on Reddit people kept telling me to keep more distance between vehicles in the front but I already do that. In fact one time the glass cracked when I was driving in a parking lot.

Zeronova3 2026-03-15 06:39

Are you guys following cars too close?

jchin913 2026-03-15 08:00

Is it annoying since they need to recalibrate the sensors a and the mirrors

superduperhosts 2026-03-15 13:14

I went 8 years without damage to my model 3, and n the last year something hit it HARD and chipped it. Traded it in on a model Y and decided to get the glass coverage because I feel like my luck will run out

nagelk87 2026-03-15 13:16

There's a few chips on the bumper already, but I'm not too worried about the paint since it won't crack more over time. I had a chip on my model 3 for a few years but it wasn't noticeable during driving, I waited until a larger one hit before replacing the third time

Empty_Bread8906 2026-03-15 13:30

Buy the glass insurance?

PtrJung 2026-03-15 13:37

I went to a chip repair place and they put some glue in for free. That’s exactly what I’m doing…waiting until I get another chip or crack before replacing. Plus, the more you drive the more micro-chips you get. I’ll let those accumulate too.

Electronic_Lab4489 2026-03-15 20:19

$16/month windshield protection package from Tesla. Great for folks whose consumer insurance requires a sizeable deductible for windshield replacement

JimGerm 2026-03-15 21:39

I bought my Y in late ‘20, and I’ve had a good unbroken windshield for exactly 5 months. First one broke (massive crack) 3 months after I got it, 2nd windshield lasted 2 months before a big crack. I just got my 3rd windshield yesterday. Fingers crossed!
