Slight panel gap rear passenger door

podrock | 2026-03-14 11:53 | 4 views

Just picked up my new 2026 Model Y today and everything looks great. I did notice a very slight panel gap on the rear passenger door. Honestly the cosmetic part doesn’t bother me What I did notice though is that the rear passenger door takes a bit more force to close than the other three doors. The other doors close really smoothly with very little effort but this one needs a little extra force to latch. It does close and latch fine it’s just not as effortless as the others. Is this something that tends to break in better over time or is it worth putting in a service request to have them adjust the door alignment?

Put in a service request if it worries you. If it changes over time to any signficant degree you (we all have) much more serious issues.

Yes if you can point an issue. If you just say bad alignment or door felt ‘subjectively’ hard to close, they won’t usually touch it. But if you say wind noise on high speed, they will likely confirm that and re align. Had that same issue before.

If this is really common do you know if many people just leave it as is? I really guess I don’t care as long as it won’t get worse.

So I declined the first vehicle delivery because of this similar situation and the delivery advisor could not guarantee this is something service would fix because “Tesla is known for some alignment issue like this” and to just “close harder” ( no joke, this was what he said!) I was able to match to a new vehicle and a new advisor. When I asked him about it, he said they are allowed a 5% error margin so if service determines the misalignment is within that margin they likely won’t fix it. Good suggestion by the other post to complain about wind noise, definitely give that a try!

thanks for the reply - I may go that route. It honestly doesn’t bother me too much but I'm def going to keep an eye on it. If it gets worse as the car 'breaks in' I’ll def bring it up with service then. I'm super likely within that 5% error margin I suspect.

Keep us updated! I’m curious if they would.
