The Premium is at 0.9%. Why not just get one of those? Financed over 60 months the total interest paid is just a few hundred bucks.

I think the total interest paid is over $1k isn't it? I mean, yes that's a smaller amount relatively speaking. But I don't know... I think I'm also looking to avoid as much depreciation as possible, hence the efforts to look for one Used.

I guess it depends on how much you finance. If depreciation is a concern, then yeah, buying used is the better option.

True... I could put a larger downpayment down - I was just checking off their default $3300. The pricing on one of these newer Premiums is kind of hard to stomach though. I guess it's the HW4 craze too... I've never purchased a new car and have only bought used ONCE and that was a 11yr old car from my brother. So all of this is new to me and it's like sticker shock overload. On the upside, Tesla is supposedly the lowest hassle when it comes to dealership experiences which seems to be my experience thus far (we did a demo/test drive a few days ago and it was super low pressure).

Got my son a CPO '23 MYLR for $30.7k w/29k miles a couple of months ago and had it shipped from Socal to the Bay Area. Has 1 year left in the standard warranty along with an additional 1 year getting CPO. Thought it was a deal we couldn't pass up. He'll be driving it down to school next year and the rates to charge at school are pretty good. Only down side is that it's HW3, but my son said he's not worried too much about FSD. He looked at it more from having to do regular maintenance along with having to pay for gas.

Nice. That's \*roughly\* around the price I'm seeing as well (although I'm seeing a bit more in fact) - I'm assuming you ordered it online and paid the $500 non-refundable deposit then? How comfortable were you doing that sight unseen? It just makes me nervous doing that. I could drive up to where I see one now but it's not that close and I would likely be driving my trade-in vehicle on top of that (I'm assuming to get trade-in you have to do it at the time of the purchase but I could be wrong...). As for FSD: I've heard mixed things about it - I think it has vastly improved on HW4 but not sure I would really depend on or use it very much.

The base model is great. Test drive one if you haven't. I don't regret not getting the premium.
Buying used you'll have a higher interest rate and more risk for maintenance on wear items. Decide what you want to trade off. Personally I went new for the 0% and plan on keeping the car for more than 5 years, so it made the most sense.

We did test drive it and it was nice. Of course, I had no prior benchmark or reference point (with a Premium trim model) and didn't think to try a Premium as well but we can always go back. I probably should have test driven a 3 as well. We did go towards the end of the day near closing though, so either way, we may end up going back for another test drive.
If I were to buy used, I wouldn't finance and would just pay cash btw. Do you think the $5k in 'savings' for the stripped down base model is really worth that though? I read another thread on this where most ppl were arguing that if it were closer to a $10k difference it would be a bit more fair.

My wife and I went back and forth about not being able to see the car before hand. The photos they provide are decent but obviously you won't be able to see everything. What we focused on was no dents, huge scratches, curb rash on the rims, and no major wear out on the seats. We did expect that there would be some scratches, but we were thoroughly impressed with how they detailed the car. I read somewhere that they put new tires on these CPO cars, but never found it in writing. Having said that, the tires look brand new and I thought we just lucked out.
Funny thing is, the experience was so good, my wife is now looking for a '24 M3p to replace her old ICE car. GL OP, if you are up around 1:30AM every day, that's when Tesla drops their prices on each vehicle. That's when we snagged my son's MY.

Instead of buying used, put that money into a 4% interest earning CD and finance at 0.99. At the end of 72 months, you net at least 7-10k in interest. That makes the new car almost as cheap as used
And you'll have full warranty

It was worth it to me plus interest. I hate the overhead glass, so not upset it's covered. Not a fan of the rear screen having kids, don't want them to have access to that. Didn't care about the bigger front screen. Sound system is still great. Suspension is still great. The only thing I wish I had is the cooled seats. That was cool. Otherwise it still feels miles better than a traditional ICE base trim. Came from a premium Subaru Forester and it's night and day better.
Buying a used one in cash sounds like a great move too.

That was my logic with going 0% apr on the base trim although my preference is treasury bills (and I'm OK with having to login and buying/churning them roughly month over month) - being the stingy person I am, 0.99% still feels like too much though but maybe I'll concede if I feel Premium is really worth while 🤣

What about with them disabling autopilot on the base trim? That seems like a pretty big deal for a lot of people. I wouldn't have a reference point since I have never driven a Tesla until a few days ago so maybe it's a moot point for me as it wouldn't matter as much. At the same time, it would be nice to have that option without being forced to pay $99/mo each time I want to use it. Then again, most of our driving is local so 2nd moot point LOL

Thanks for sharing. It feels like a $500 gamble but it seems odds would be in our favor. I just wish they allowed my closest delivery center to accept the delivery - it's literally like 10 minutes away. The next closest one isn't that far away from us at 20-30 mins but still... I am still curious how the trade-in timing would work with all of this.

When you go to resell it years later, the majority of buyers will prefer premium.

Idk, I have full FSD in mine and they said something like Tesla can't legally remove autosteer, so it's still there but idk how it works as I have FSD for 3 months free. Honestly not a huge deal to me as I really enjoy driving the car, so I can deal with the adaptive cruise control only and not autosteer if that is the case. But I plan on probably keeping FSD, it's been really convenient and life changing not having to deal with managing bumper to bumper traffic.

The disabling auto pilot is my main reason to look into buying a used one. I am not a fan of subscription and would really like to not pay 100 bucks for a thing I am not 100% comfortable using

I would, by default, already concede to losing a significant amount of money buying a new Tesla as it stands. That said, I would hope that these cars would last a long time since my car ownership habits are such that we are buy-hold-drive types of owners. I'm not privy to the idea of churning through cars every 5-6 years.

I probably will at this point. We will be doing a test drive again and this time I am going to try the Premium. Btw: is end of this month close of their quarter? I wonder if they might do any sort of discounts/specials if thats even a thing

Yeah it's always like that. Always wait for a boosted.interest rate deal to buy one. I think test driving basic vs premium is a good way to compare.
I have a long range rwd and wish I got the AWD for the sound system

You think theyll going to go even lower than .99 on the premium by end of the month?
JumpyWerewolf9439

Probably not. Most times it doesn't happen. Also there is increased demand as gas prices increase

They have now removed Autopilot (Autosteer) on ALL trims after February. The only options on the new ones are TACC and FSD, and the main menus no longer have Autopilot, the settings for TACC and FSD are under a menu item called Self Driving.

Besides customizing is there any other benefit to ordering one to build? I figure probably not if we dont care much for options and just want to drive a ‘stock’ one off the lot at a dealership?

I lucked out a few weeks ago when i went to buy and my local tesla took a huge delivery and had just about every option available for immediate pickup in inventory. The biggest thing is the wait if you go custom vs immediate availability depending which one you pick outta inventory

Yeah I'm just upgrading ICE for FSD so can wait, but maybe prices won't go down who knows. I'd also prefer paying cash and self-insuring for comp/coll since the insurance bump will be insane.

We have a 2008 mazda cx9 that has had recent issues. It would be good to unload it sooner than later at this point in time. I was planning just to do a trade-in with Tesla (I probably could sell it privately for more but its due for renewal soon and I would have to deal with smog checking it and all that - i just dont want to keep driving it around and have another problem come up or reappear though). Anyway, part of me thinks maybe I should look for a Toyota now and hold on the M Y but that just feels like a bigger hassle and more work after being in touch with a couple dealerships - feels like theyve shifted their games from on-site at the dealership to email/text/phone where most want to upsell you higher trims and nonsensical add-ons and I dont want to be rushed into making a decision there. I think at this point maybe there’s “no wrong decision” but I tend to feel regret about *something* that could have been better etc….

I want a used model Y as well but unfortunately the 2026 awd is a significant step up from the earlier year models so now that’s the only year I want lol. Might have the patience to wait a year for it to depreciate a decent amount.

Been driving a 2019 Model 3 LR for nearly 7 years. Just bought a gently used 2023 MY3 with 20k MI for $29.9k on the morning of the war. It was coincidence. Since then gas has gone up $1/gal... And Tesla bumped their prices 2 days later.
Impressions... Suspension is still stiff but Definitely better than my 2019 M3 with 19 inch wheels, but still stiff over bumps. I'm glad they finally solved the wind noise problems. The worst problem is the low frequency booming from the rear hatch. It infuriates me that even after 3-4 years of MY production they still have issues like that. And yes... The AC still smells like my old well worn M3. I did both Koolit and Klima cleaning today with new filters. Still smells. Efficiency is pretty impressive. Only 10% higher consumption than my 2019 M3. Sad part is that I basically have two identical looking cars now.
The pro about the old Y is basic AP is still there. I don't care for FSD, but I can't go without AP.. that's why I bought my noisy harsh riding M3 Long Range 7 years ago... And the used Y is $20 cheaper than a new MY AWD out the door.
If you get a juniper Y, you get much better sound, more comfortable cabin. Better ride. But you also loose the stalk! This might be a deal breaker for many.
