FSD “Fasten Seat Belt”

Horror-Programmer970 | 2026-03-13 16:13 | 4 views

2026 model Y performance on multiple occasions since the last update has decided to scream at me to fasten my seatbelt, even though it is fastened and disengaging FSD and telling me to take over controls. Anyone else seeing this?

Mine has not nagged me when I've had my seatbelt on without touching it but the couple of times I've taken off my seatbelt, like I normally do as I'm pulling into my driveway, FSD has had a complete temper tantrum.

It’s possible that the seatbelt sensor is acting up and the timing with the software update is a coincidence.

Good thinking. That might be it. I’ll swing into my service center and chat with him about it.

Make a service visit and have them run remote SRS diagnostics remotely. No point walking in.

They can run diagnostics remotely without you being there??!? That's pretty awesome!

Tesla app is saying it requires a physical apt.

FSD shuts off and blares a warning telling you it shut off if you take off your seatbelt while it's still driving. It's pretty straightforward. Just wait until it parks to take off your seatbelt.

I had phantom passenger seatbelt chimes with nothing in the seat. Took it to service and was told this was a known software issue and will be fixed in a future update. Seemed like a safety feature failure to me, but they didn't care to even remove the seat and check connections.

Happened to me yesterday. Nothing in passenger seat and the chime went off for it to be buckled. Maybe ghost visiting?

Well you can’t expect the car to be moving automatically when you take off the seatbelt. Duh!

StormTrpr66 2026-03-14 19:05

Yeah...but in my driveway I'm going maybe 1mph. Anyway, now I just disengage FSD when I'm there because it can't park itself in my garage anyway.

Signatureshot2932 2026-03-14 19:20

Yeah nah! If I was a developer at Tesla I still wouldn’t remove this requirement. It’s understandable for humans to cut corners for convenience or common sense, but if machines start allowing this, you are looking at potential lawsuits on company’s hands.

You most likely have in-cabin radar which is heavily software based. It will improve over time. But there is no hardware service for that. If you had an actual issue with the seat sensor (like 2022 and older) then they would service the seat trim cover.
