When did this happen? Too late for me, still love my 5 seat model Y.

This is only worth for folks with newborns and super small babies. Not practical at all for the kids comfort

ofnabzhsuwna 2026-03-12 23:48

Who do you put in the back - your least favorite kids?

Ok-Junket138 2026-03-12 23:51

Is this any different than my 23 7 seat model y?

AZFJ60 2026-03-12 23:51

Not humans. At least not ones with legs...

JIsADev 2026-03-12 23:51

Everyone unless they want to pay for premium plus seating for more leg room. I ain't running no charity

Ok-Junket138 2026-03-12 23:53

When I have all the little cousins they fight to sit in the third row, don’t know why but they love it

UCBearcats 2026-03-12 23:53

Good for dogs! But there are much better options for EVs these days.

blazinbit 2026-03-12 23:54

This has been available for a few months now

justins_dad 2026-03-12 23:55

What we need is the Model Y L

HPMJ2014 2026-03-12 23:56

I have a 2023 7 seater, so a while now? My kids are 6 and under, so they can sit in the 3rd row when we need it.

lordkiwi 2026-03-12 23:56

My kids 10(14 year old sized) and 8 love it.

Safe-Pomegranate1171 2026-03-12 23:59

The in-laws

CycleOfLove 2026-03-13 00:00

Spent a bunch of money on the 3rd row. Average cost is ~$1k per use for me after 2 years!

pr1ncejeffie 2026-03-13 00:07

Our car is coming in 2 weeks. I begged my wife not to get the 7 seater but she insisted for her parents. I said I will not be liable for any leg injuries or whatever. sigh sigh sigh

Nsight7 2026-03-13 00:08

In our 7-person household the 7-seater has been great... but 4 of the 7 are 5' 3" or shorter (and aren't growing any further) and thus this fits our needs really well. It's NOT great for long trips, but works pretty well when we need to travel 7-deep to a restaurant 35 minutes away.

Jason13L 2026-03-13 00:12

My oldest stopped growing at 5'2" and still fits back there and loves the solitude. It has worked for my family with three kids. My middle child who is already over 6' never stood a chance back there.

omy2vacay 2026-03-13 00:12

Cannot fit a stroller in the back with 7 seats

Eighteen64 2026-03-13 00:13

Im hearing September on that

sweetenerxo 2026-03-13 00:14

It’s the same

Krescent25 2026-03-13 00:14

Lieutenant Dan

HPMJ2014 2026-03-13 00:15

I’m barely 5’3 and I can fit back there but I don’t like it. My 6 and 4 year old don’t mind being back there though when they need to. 6’ would definitely be uncomfortable 😅

harda_toenail 2026-03-13 00:16

My 4 year old gets so excited when he gets to sit back there with his 2 year old bro. Harness booster and regular booster fit great. It’s perfect for him. Put the middle section of the back seat down and his legs go through that and both grandmas sit in the regular back seat.

harda_toenail 2026-03-13 00:17

Awesome to know my 2 and 4 year old have a long way to go before outgrowing it

mrscellophaneflowers 2026-03-13 00:18

Same!

javedk1 2026-03-13 00:19

Yeah this is not practical at all.....put the kids in the back and have no space for stroller?

DaSandman78 2026-03-13 00:19

Oof

hchn27 2026-03-13 00:23

This has been available for a couple months

zyneman 2026-03-13 00:24

sitting incorrectly, indian style is the right way

MattNis11 2026-03-13 00:25

Yeah we know

MattNis11 2026-03-13 00:26

And if you move the second row forward, it’s difficult to get out of the second row because you are so close to the door hinge

MattNis11 2026-03-13 00:26

Only for those that need a stroller

MattNis11 2026-03-13 00:27

I didn’t hear anything about it

michoudi 2026-03-13 00:27

Anyone who doesn’t want to pay for a ride share.

MattNis11 2026-03-13 00:27

No air bags back there

p3n9uins 2026-03-13 00:28

Where?

michoudi 2026-03-13 00:29

It’s been available for a few years now.

hi_internet_friend 2026-03-13 00:30

This happened right after the federal credit expired. It's been months

FuckinHighGuy 2026-03-13 00:32

😂

jefedezorros 2026-03-13 00:33

Yeah same here on my 2022. Just upgraded to a 26 and decided not to invest. I mainly used it for the dog on trips. But those were even few and far between. I did like the versatility it provided in the second row to slide and lift up for cleaning/ finding lost things through the seats.

Admirable-Poet-5981 2026-03-13 00:33

Or a three row SUV which would dominate.

Eighteen64 2026-03-13 00:36

RemindMe! 5 months

jetserf 2026-03-13 00:37

Ice cream!🍦

grayum_ian 2026-03-13 00:39

I only put my kids back there if 100% no other option. I wouldn't say it's the most safe place to be.

JCMIV 2026-03-13 00:43

I’d rather have a 5 with the rear seat pushed back to to give more leg room

ChunkyThePotato 2026-03-13 00:44

Hearing from whom? A random person on the internet, or someone credible?

cocobear114 2026-03-13 00:44

parents!!?? i hope theyre either tiny or in exteremely good shspe. the leg space is a complete joke and the roofline makes headroom completely nonexistenr for anyone over 4 fooot 5. its a waste to get IMO

pr1ncejeffie 2026-03-13 00:46

Too late now... I'm just fuming but I have to let my wife goes through this

cocobear114 2026-03-13 00:51

sorry bout that! i have a 5 seater Y, i test drove the 7 seater, was incredulous at how useless the seat was. the Y really isnt a large vehicle

atomatoflame 2026-03-13 00:51

There are side air bags if I remember correctly.

MattNis11 2026-03-13 00:51

No

atomatoflame 2026-03-13 00:52

The second row sliding is very nice. Makes a nice compromise when filling up the cargo area.

Shurap1 2026-03-13 00:52

My 5 year old refused to seat back there, the roof is tapered down and curved over third row which causes sun to bake you literally as AC does not get there efficiently in summer months. We have fold it down since then and have not used. If you really need 3 row EV, the Kia EV9 is the best, we have that as well and very spacious.

Sudden-Constant-6354 2026-03-13 00:59

Chose not to go with the 7 seater. Couldn’t really see a good usage case for it tbh.

tmluna01 2026-03-13 01:00

It felt so cramped. They had one on the showroom, and the second row also has less leg room compared to its 5-seater variant.

machead4life 2026-03-13 01:14

This is the way.

casino_r0yale 2026-03-13 01:36

Dogs

WizeAdz 2026-03-13 01:45

I have a 7-seat Model Y from 2022. We’re outgrowing it (we’ve become a family of 6 and the ) and need to trade it for a vehicle the size of a Rivian R1S or the Hyundai Ioniq 9. Anyone near Central Illinois want to buy it?

teknorpi 2026-03-13 01:45

They don’t slide on non 7 seaters?

atomatoflame 2026-03-13 01:51

I don't want to have two hot takes in a day, but my understanding is the 7 seater provides better slide and recline from the 5 seater. At least pre refresh

jefedezorros 2026-03-13 01:52

They do not. It’s a feature specifically designed to allow access to the third row.

Primary-User 2026-03-13 02:01

Why don’t they just do a model V?

LNL_HUTZ 2026-03-13 02:20

Eric the Actor.

andy_nony_mouse 2026-03-13 02:24

I test drove one two years ago. The back seats are barely acceptable for little kids. Don’t bother.

BreakerSoultaker 2026-03-13 02:26

I'm not. Sitting. In the back back.

SpectaclesNightlight 2026-03-13 02:33

Yes and it looks ridicules from inside.

Clu_Rebooted 2026-03-13 02:57

7 seat MY is pointless. No trunk and not safe if rear ended.

Talklessreadmore007 2026-03-13 02:58

Waiting for model Y L so that I can ditch my HW3 model y

x3knet 2026-03-13 03:22

Leased our Model Y in 2023 which is ending next month. We haven't used the 3rd row a single time. Not once. Live and learn I suppose.

shwh1963 2026-03-13 04:01

My daughter looks at the 7 seater when she bought her car in 2023. There was no way anyone over 5”5 could sit in the third row.

Beautiful_Finger4566 2026-03-13 04:05

there's no way Lt Dan's torso would fit under that roof unless you lay him sideways... which I guess would work...

Chaantii 2026-03-13 04:07

The 7 seater is super uncomfortable and previously, child seats cannot be placed back there. Super tiny people or children that don’t have child seats. I’d say it’s worth it’s for a day trip sort of thing to avoid a second car but if it’s longer, where’s all the luggage going

ieatsushi 2026-03-13 04:11

Trust me bro

Ordinary-Cake8510 2026-03-13 04:14

I was talking to a friend who has 4 kids and always has an extra kid or two in their car. They bought an X and they love it. I was saying exactly this. I want the Y L for the length. I don’t even have kids yet!

goodguybrian 2026-03-13 04:20

Im thinking my dogs are the only ones that would be comfortable

idk012 2026-03-13 04:21

I did $2500 for the third row and $1000 for the tow package to be used a cargo rack for luggage.  Used it three times when kids had their little cousins over.  The other option was to rent a minivan.

SnooCookies3977 2026-03-13 04:28

lol. Saw this in person. Dunno who the extra seats are for.

tangreentan 2026-03-13 04:42

I find the 5 seater to be more like a 4 seater. The back seat is pretty narrow in the Model Y compared to other cars.

HonestButtholeReview 2026-03-13 04:58

Lol this is literally what the third row ended up being for us After realizing no one liked being back there, we just do three car seats in the 2nd row but when they're misbehaving yell "YOU BETTER QUIT FIGHTING OR I'M STOPPING THE CAR AND SOMEONE IS GOING IN THE BACK!" (Slight exaggeration for comedic effect)

FunkyTangg 2026-03-13 05:00

6 seat > 7 seat

elatllat 2026-03-13 05:02

It can be done.

Chaantii 2026-03-13 05:14

That actually seems like a reasonable use and great for the kiddos.

Ugly__Pete 2026-03-13 05:37

Yes you can. We got our giant Baby Trend Expedition 2 child stroller standing up with the sub trunk panel removed.

yokuyuki 2026-03-13 06:02

It's not that bad. I'm 5' 8". Still fit

FairAssistance0 2026-03-13 06:22

Model Y L is now available in Australia

NewHum 2026-03-13 07:44

They love it because they don’t know they’re sitting in the crumble zone

Past-Heron2783 2026-03-13 07:46

Gibt es ein Video, wo die Variante mit 7 Sitzen in der 2026 Variante gezeigt wird?

Jindouz 2026-03-13 08:33

The -80% trunk storage debuff isn't something I'd appreciate even with the seats folding.

OutlandishnessNo5636 2026-03-13 08:36

Don’t want to spend money on a taxi car. The real 7 seater was the MX. just looked at new rivian r2, way better than MY

onlinespending 2026-03-13 08:52

Yeah. Maybe we could call it the Model X.

iguessma 2026-03-13 08:58

i was choosing between the highland m3 with the screen in the back and the 2025 MY (non juniper) i asked my kids and they choose the MY with the seats in the back over the screen and regularly ask to sit there. it's been pretty useful. my parents come visit we don't need to take 2 cars to places. I can take my kids friends and everyone has a seat. my kids are still young and won't be as useful as they get older but i still get a lot of use out of it.

iguessma 2026-03-13 08:59

uh.... i wouldn't put adults there. the kids can sit there.

animus_invictus 2026-03-13 09:25

It’s crazy that people are pretending you have to be 4’11” to fit back there. I get it isn’t as roomy as the primary back row, but cmon now. Just being able to seat that many people in one car comes in handy. Better than a cap of 6 with someone in the trunk lol

animus_invictus 2026-03-13 09:26

Bro that is straight from John Tesla himself come on

SpicyBallsOfFire 2026-03-13 09:51

What do you mean when did this happen? My 2022 model y had 7 seats

CryptoRicky78 2026-03-13 10:21

I don't know yet, I'm in Europe, but I'm more waiting for the L with 6. Will be right perfect

justins_dad 2026-03-13 10:34

I love the model X and would love to buy it but it’s just so far outside my budget. Model Y L would be attainable for me.

mehalywally 2026-03-13 10:57

I'm 5'6" and 250lbs, fit just fine with someone 5'10" in the 3rd row. I wouldn't want to go it for any drives longer than 20 min, but a short drive to a local restaurant or something would be fine

Lexsteel11 2026-03-13 11:45

Yeah that pisses me off. Honestly we are in the market for a car more like a suburban or Navigator and it pisses me off Tesla won’t even bring the Y L here and took away the X. I don’t want a cybertruck rolling meme but need more space for all our kids and getting frustrated Tesla has no options.

Comfortable_Client80 2026-03-13 11:52

It’s new on Juniper

homewrecker07 2026-03-13 12:05

Wait for the L. The back seats on my MY7 is barely usable for kids older than 10.

Defiant_Education583 2026-03-13 12:16

It’s not coming to the US

Hidavi 2026-03-13 12:30

I've had a 7 seat MY since 2023. The third row technically works but only for children or small women. I sat back there to test and my head is touching the roof glass which seems dangerous lol.

Android_Z 2026-03-13 12:46

Model YL with a second row bench and two seats in the back would be perfect.

cocobear114 2026-03-13 13:05

i dont get this take. its just untrue. the y is the size of a rav4 or crv with a much more sloped rear roofline. even 1 person back there is like a clown car. only way someone fits back there is if the 2nd row is slid up rendering that row useless. im 6'0 on a good day and i tried the 3rd row and it was completely ridiculous. if it works for u, i guess, but its useless for the vast majority of people IMO and not worth the cost

Radio-Easy 2026-03-13 13:27

So 7 people can burn to death in a fire when they can't get out instead of 5!

Left-Mixture5252 2026-03-13 13:32

And not having the stupid sloped roof for more space in the rear 🤷🏼‍♂️

Paythapiper 2026-03-13 14:59

Love my Y. But a 3 row SUV it is not. Besides hitting your head on any bumps, where you putting coolers, luggage etc when occupying the 3rd row.

teknorpi 2026-03-13 15:02

Thanks. I have a 7 seater and never sat in the back seat of the regular Y.

YumiTheDude 2026-03-13 16:35

Same here.

jefedezorros 2026-03-13 16:52

I don’t want to overstate the recline but the 7 seater does recline. But it’s subtle.

r007r 2026-03-13 17:19

I sat in it. My hair touched the trunk. I didn’t bother.

Eighteen64 2026-03-13 17:40

It certainly is. As is larger vehicle that I wont expound on since it isnt a model Y based platform

NesCie0617 2026-03-13 17:42

We’ve had ours since 2022.

NesCie0617 2026-03-13 17:44

My adult family members that are 5’1 easily fits there easily.

NesCie0617 2026-03-13 17:46

I mean, you are taller than the average height in the US. Just cause it doesn’t work for you you doesn’t mean it won’t work for most people.

balloonwithnoskin 2026-03-13 18:34

Honestly should have made a nice 3 row SUV instead of the cyber truck. It would have sold like hotcakes.

OneEstablishment5144 2026-03-13 18:53

Tesla should use the cyber skateboard and make a big suv to compete with the escalade iq and r1s. But no stainless silver body, just normal casting of body parts.

kuhnboy 2026-03-13 21:08

Many moons ago

andrewsz__ 2026-03-13 21:24

Anything but the chunkie Mrs Trunchbull!!!

FuckingLucario420 2026-03-14 03:07

Since they're discontinuing Model X, I think the Model Y L would be a good fit in the states.

Saloncinx 2026-03-14 04:28

Rivian R1S

BeerJunky 2026-03-14 04:58

The current 3 row Tesla options are laughable if you want to put anyone over 3 in the 3rd row.

Annual-Anywhere-7816 2026-03-14 06:00

Thought I saw at one point they were hinting at a Cyber SUV. Might have pulled the reigns back though after seeing the abysmal CT sales.

Lower_Confection5609 2026-03-14 07:10

We’ve never used the third row after two years, but maybe it’s a weird flex? Like check out my long range 7-seater with tow hitch, FSD, and acceleration boost! Anyone impressed yet?

MatarruanoOMaior 2026-03-14 12:44

Or Model X mini /s

MatarruanoOMaior 2026-03-14 12:47

Does 2 places on the back has as well isofix?

harda_toenail 2026-03-14 13:10

I am pretty sure they do. Wife’s car and I’m working all weekend so can’t check right now.

Floating_Bus 2026-03-14 14:43

I have two small children that fit. But only for another year. They are a bit laughable. I do love the extra foot room for the second row though! Wish the standard had adjustable rear seats. 🤔

SF_E60M5 2026-03-14 23:24

Damn that trunk space evaporated 😂. Guess that’s the price you pay for 7 seater.
