Screen Protector for new MYP

gaydonj | 2026-03-12 15:00 | 4 views

Hi everyone. I have ordered my Model Y Premium and am awaiting delivery. Does anyone have experience with screen protectors and either recommend or discourage using them to prevent glare, fingerprints, etc.? I’m considering getting them in advance so I can install at delivery.

Also please don’t eviscerate me for accidentally using MYP in the title for a Premium and not a Performance.

Change it to MYp and we’ll answer

Just go on Amazon. I think I have the spigen one or whatever the brand is

gaydonj 2026-03-12 15:14

Unfortunately I can’t change the title.

gaydonj 2026-03-12 15:15

Are you glad you installed it and have you had any issues with screen responsiveness, bubbles, etc.?

w1lnx 2026-03-12 15:19

Tesla recommends strongly against them. A screen protector can interfere with the touch screen reliability. I don’t have the manual page handy, but it’s definitely in the owner manual.

The one I bought came with like a template to make sure it installed properly. And yes I am because 2 days after I bought it, my wife was taking her MacBook out of the car and slapped the corner of the screen. Screen protector shattered but screen was safe and sound. Almost didn’t have a wife if the screen also shattered

I have no issues with touch reliability.

jayklk 2026-03-12 15:29

I installed the Spigen one since 2022 and 0 issues.

Super. Perhaps you can share your anecdotal experience with Tesla’s engineering, marketing, support, and legal departments. Currently, here’s what the owner manual cautions regarding [screen protectors](https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_us/GUID-518C51C1-E9AC-4A68-AE12-07F4FF8C881E.html#:~:text=The%20Controls%20%3Cem%3Escreen%3C%2Fem%3E%20appears%20over%20the%20map): CAUTION Do not apply a screen protector on the touchscreen. Doing so can result in unintended inputs to the touchscreen (phantom inputs), delayed response or unresponsiveness to touches, electrostatic discharge which can damage the touchscreen, etc. Any damage caused by installing a screen protector is not covered by the warranty.

I prefer using the satin protectors. Less reflection, less finger prints, easier to clean, feels better to touch.

elthepenguin 2026-03-12 15:55

That's just them covering their asses as some screen protectors can be bad and they don't want to deal with issues because of that; I understand that. But that doesn't mean that every screen protector is bad. A good one can be very beneficial, eg. the screen is no longer a fingerprint magnet.

elthepenguin 2026-03-12 15:56

I have spigen almost since day 0. No issues whatsoever and the screen isn't a fingeprint magnet plus there's some extra layer of protection. One word of advice for installation - be really sure there are no dust particles left on the screen.

I made a thread about this a couple of days ago. No one has reported any of the doom and gloom issues Tesla warns against. The Tesla touchscreen is not magical nor does it contain any kind of magical fairy dust. It's no different than an iPad/tablet/laptop touchscreen. I put a protector on the front and rear touchscreens and have not had a single issue. Just be aware that there are two different sizes for the '26 models, a 15.4" and a 16". Make sure you order the right one. The 16" protectors are harder to find right now, probably because that size is a recent addition.

ichoosetruthnotfacts 2026-03-12 16:00

I've had zero glare issues with my MYP and white interior.

LightxDarkness93 2026-03-12 16:04

i got the tempered glass for both the front and back screen and have no issues.

kmahajan01 2026-03-12 16:05

Spigen hasn’t launched a 16” screen protector, yet afaik.

it_is_raining_now 2026-03-12 16:07

I only do it for the rear screen because I got 5 and 2 year old boys. But for the front… nah don’t do it

sevargmas 2026-03-12 16:15

I had a 2023 MY with a Spigen matte protector. I really hated the matte so I replaced it with a Spigen glossy screen protector. Zero issues with bubbling or touch or anything else. It works flawlessly. It also helps somewhat prevent fingerprints. 6 months ago I got my 2026 MY and I never got around to getting a screen protector. I haven’t noticed the difference. At this point I’m not even going to bother. Your screen is not going to get scratched.

deztructo 2026-03-12 16:34

You do not need it. It's not like your phone screen that gets stuck in a pocket or bag scraping alongside metal keys. There were concerns about phantom touches.

StormTrpr66 2026-03-12 16:35

Just a CYA from them in case someone messes up their screen while putting on the protector or something stupid like that. But most protectors come with an installation frame or way to align it so it's pretty idiot-proof. I'm sure somewhere, someone has tried attaching a screen protector with super glue or some other stupid idea.

gaydonj 2026-03-12 16:45

I think my concern was more around fingerprints and glare. When shopping, I was looking at a lot of used ones online and photos with screens so dirty you could hardly read whatever display they were trying to show me.

Possible_Version2680 2026-03-12 18:06

I bet you’re fun af at parties. Good lord man. The screen protector works just fine in the 2+ years I’ve had it on my screen. No issues.

sbddude 2026-03-12 18:13

I used this one from Amazon https://a.co/d/0f6mqdji 16 inch, matte. Came with applicator frame.

Ok_Swordfish_2462 2026-03-12 18:33

Had the Spigen one installed. Removed after one month It is super easy to install and went on cleanly, however, I wasn't a fan of the overall look and how it changed the clarity (this may be subjective and others wouldnt notice), secondly, I have polarized sunglasses and it made the screen colors look terrible....lots of purples and pinks. I also didnt notice a reduction in fingerprints but it did help to not make them so obvious.

Dizzy-Woodpecker7879 2026-03-12 18:36

Why would you want one? Its not scratch sensitive at all.

ahmahzahn 2026-03-12 18:51

The spigen isn’t updated for new 16” screens

deztructo 2026-03-12 20:45

>concern was more around fingerprints and glare Screen protectors are more prone. The proper solution is to wipe the screen with a microfiber cloth. However if you insist go ahead and buy.

gaydonj 2026-03-12 21:22

Minimize glare and fingerprints

espencer-85 2026-03-13 04:16

I bought a laptop screen protector, it’s exactly the same thing at half of the price

gaydonj 2026-03-13 06:10

You like it?

sbddude 2026-03-13 12:35

Yes. Application was easy and quality is good.

andrewsz__ 2026-03-13 21:38
