Your car should have come with an NACS adapter. They also sell CCS1 to NACS all over the place if you don't want to shell out for the Tesla branded one. Just saw you need it this weekend... probably look on Amazon and cross your fingers

I assumed that the adapter that came with the car would work with the next most common charger type. It most certainly did not. The adapter that came with it looks like it would work with the top half of the charger but obviously doesn't fit this monstrosity.

There are 4 common EV charging adapters. The adapters switch between NACS level 1/2 and J1772 (2 adapters one for each direction) and between NACS DC fast charging and CCS1 (2 adapters one for each direction). If you have a Tesla you need the adapters that go from J1772 to NACS and from CCS1 to NACS.

What year is your Tesla? Older ones won’t be able to use that (even with an adapter) without a hardware retrofit for CCS compatibility.

That's just j1772 or whatever. CCS is the bulky thing you're holding. J1772 was the other common household level 1 while CCS was its fast charger older sibling. And that's what the car-side had. It is basically a physical difference between the charging speeds, and maybe an "over time" upgraded design from a car having just j1772, like J1772++.

Hit up a local buy-sell (Facebook or something) and see if someone close has a CCS-NACS adapter you can just grab in a few minutes. Better yet have them come meet you and ensure it works. If I were the seller I'd happily take 15 minutes to help you out. OR. Amazon it, I bet there's an overnight BUT here's the big tip, get it delivered to your parents address.

Oh no. For most people do not buy high power items on Amazon. You want a CCS to NACS adapter. Check your throughout your car. My 26 Juniper came with the mobile charger and CCS to NACS adapter.

Make sure your car shows Enabled for "CCS adapter" or "CCS and 3rd-party NACS DC charging" in the "Additional vehicle information" section on your display.

I tend to agree, to at least be cautious when buying high power anything on Amazon. I was in OP's shoes last year. I did lots of research and opted for that highly rated, highly reviewed product from a company that exists and sells outside of Amazon. The perk of having fast shipping while getting a reputable product can be found on Amazon, just takes a bit more digging and cross checking.

Me, a European, confused why you cannot use the standard charger that all cars use.

A vastly inferior CCS1 DC Fast Charging connector. Basically 2 years ago everyone but Tesla used that connector. There is a reason the manufacturers are moving to NACS!

2021 and newer all support CCS.

Most people either go with the official Tesla adapter/A2Z as a backup or use the cheapest one on Amazon. 500A DC is pretty scary if something does go wrong however! 2021+ are safe. 2020 depends. Pre 2020 need retrofit

Actually, all 2020 model Ys are fine. There was a period in 2021/2022 where they had supply chain issues from the pandemic and dropped CCS support.

You are probably not going to need it unless you take road trips where you may not have access to Tesla superchargers, or want to have the option to use a different brand. I feel like mostly every non- Tesla charger is J1722 for level 2.

Yep, I take tons of trips all the time. In 3 years, I have close to 60k miles on it. I definitely don't think I'll need it.

Tesla just includes the J1172 AC charging adapter, it, sadly, doesn't include the CCS1 DC Fast Charging converter.

I use Tesla mobile connector that can plugin into outlets when Supercharger is not accessible. Pretty convenient to charge the car on my parent’s driveway.

Yes. I will be doing this as well. However, being that this will be a one night trip, coming from NJ, and we will be arriving with very low juice charging back up to near full would take way too long. What I will do is use this new adapter down the street and get the car back up to 85% or so and then let it slow charge over night with my mobile charger so I can got to 95%.

I don’t let mine go over 80% unless there’s a long road trip the next day. Normally I make sure I have 20~25% before arrive at my parents house, Supercharge as needed enough for the night. When I leave, I just hit on highway and find the closest Supercharger. The closest supercharger to their home is about 20 minutes drive as well, never use the charger and other none Tesla brand chargers.

You will probably need it after you sell it. Murphys law. I rolled up to a parking lot on a trip last December and low and behold. Free 150kW units with CCS1. Hell yeah. Busted the adapter out and charged while I was getting food inside.

I have a 2026 MY Juniper and work for Tesla, it doesn't in the U.S. Just the J1772 is standard. We have had owners in Cali that won the 'Trunk Lottery' and got one, but it's not standard.

When we picked up our first 2026 Tesla MY, the Tesla associate doing the delivery looked in the Trunk, and said, “Hold on. You’re missing a part.” Then he came back with the adapter in a box. Our second MY a couple of months later had it in the trunk already. Google it. Lots of customers report it’s delivered with their vehicle. It depends on the area you’re in. For some reason, some Tesla sales supply and others don’t.
