Do I need RWD or AWD in Massachusetts?

I assumed I'd need AWD and that's what I've been looking at, but I've also seen conflicting opinions. Obviously we get a fair amount of snow here but the roads are cleared pretty quickly. It's rare you're driving on actual accumulated white stuff.

Where I live it never snows. Sometimes I might drive up to the mountains to play in the snow but that's maybe once or twice a year at most. 99% of my driving is city/freeway with occasional rain. If AWD is an available option for the car I'm buying, I will take it, 100% of the time. I'll take the small hit in mileage and efficiency and the slight cost increase. The added safety when it does rain, and the ability to go into the snow whenever I feel like it make it worthwhile. Just my personal preference. My Model Y is AWD.

NH, I got AWD. I plan on getting snow tires next year, but the tires that came were decent enough and it was a very cold winter as you know! If you go RWD, winter tires are a must I feel. All seasons you can get away with it, but I still think winter tires are undervalued.

I’ve had a RWD for 5 years (Model 3) and just all season tires. Did the same with other sedans, drive safe and you’ll be fine. People way over-exaggerate the need for AWD. If the price difference is no big deal then go for it though, won’t hurt. Snow tires will make a bigger difference anyways.

The questions adults ask are crazy lol

Lived in rural NH with FWD vehicle where roads are the last to be plowed. We get a ton of snow. You need winter tires, not AWD.

This isn’t even a Model Y question. How is this different than any other car?

I just want awd for the power.

How much do you weight and how tall are you?

AWD. Wellllllll worth it for the peace of mind.

My model 3 RWD is not good in the snow in Chicago but like any car, if you drive slow and take easy turns you’ll be fine. They are also very quick at salting and clearing roads so most days I can wait it out

AWD also has LR - long range. I got it for that - worth it if you have the $$.

If AWD is an option I get it no matter where I live. Benefits are beyond snow.
