For battery health, try to keep the average as close to 50% as possible.

Charge to 80%, especially if your commute is that small. The only time you should need above 80% is when you know you’re 1) traveling somewhere without easily accessible charging infrastructure or 2) traveling far on a road trip and know you’ll need to charge again during your journey.
To me charging above 80% daily when it’s unnecessary is less than ideal.

At night I've been charging to 60% and my daily drive usually drops it down to about 35% to 40%. So, trying to keep it between 30% and 60%.
Hopefully that will reduce degradation.
OP, I would not charge to 95% unless you're going on a long trip. Your commute is similar to mine. I don't think you need to charge past 60%, maybe 70% if you're worried about not being able to charge for a day every once in a while.

Whether you risk being penny wise and pound foolish by ignoring Tesla's recommendations depends on your residential utility rate. If it's 35 cents a kwh California pricing I see the rational of gorging on free power.

Damn, sounds like you’re bad at math and didn’t read the vehicle instructions.
1. Tesla recommends charging to 80% only
2. If you consume 15% on the way home, you likely only consume 15% on the way there too. That means you only consume 30% in a day.
3. If you charge to 80% and complete 1 round trip, you should have 50% remaining.
4. No one knows what you’re talking about when you say Juniper. It’s either a Launch Edition, Base RWD or AWD, Premium RWD or AWD, or 2026 Performance. All have different ranges and batteries. “Juniper” is not even on the Tesla website.
But I get it, using readily available information and calculators is difficult.

Yes, 95% is fine since you use it right away. One tweak is to have be at 95% just before you go home. The act of charging also heats the battery which is part of preconditioning. You'll have higher efficiency.
Also have free charging at work. My M3 with LFP was easier to deal with. My MY I do more mental math, but I don't stress out over the exact percentage. Battery tests on my M3 LFP are great and as expected. MY is too new for a test.

I usually adjust the charging power so i get to 95% by the end of my work shift, and so i dont have the car at 95% for x amount of hours. You think thats ok for the battery’s health?

I'm not sure how anyone who spends more than 10 minutes on a Tesla forum or subreddit wouldn't be familiar with it. Hell, just go to Amazon and search for Tesla Juniper and you will find hundreds of products specifically made for the Juniper. Or google "Tesla Juniper Accessories".

Charging to 80% is best.
Any other finagling over percentages is a waste of time. I tried that for years and my battery is no better than just charging to 80% and forgetting about it.

I’ve searched Juniper and I cannot find it on the Tesla ordering page. I can’t find it on CarMax or Carvana. I only see Launch, Base, Premium, Performance. Also, since apparently “Juniper” gives you all the information and covers all the bases you need to help OP with his question, what is your recommendation for their charging situation?
NiceBench9100
2026-03-11 21:14
No. It’s not. Because Tesla recommends charging to 80% only. It’s in the app. It’s on the charging screen on your car. What’s so difficult about this?

It is not sold as the juniper, it is Tesla's codename for the model, which is a recent refresh of the Model Y. Again, it's literally all over the place. If you can't find it, it's not OP's fault or anyone else's. You can search for it on Amazon, Google, any Tesla forum, any AI, I mean, someone has to make a dedicated effort to NOT know what the Juniper model refers to.
Again: [**https://www.amazon.com/s?k=tesla+juniper**](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=tesla+juniper) Do you not see all of the products there listed specifically for the Juniper?
And yes, "Juniper" gives everyone here all the information needed to know wtf car he's talking about. It's the 2025/2026 refresh of the Model Y. Simple.
And I already gave my opinion regarding OP's charging situation.
Don't charge it to 95% every day, try to keep it between 20% and 80%, or an even smaller window, like 30% to 60% or 70% as much as possible. No different than any other Tesla other than the models with an LFP battery.

The idea is not to go above 80% at all. Using it quickly if you do is more mitigation than prevention. I'd shoot for 80%, then top up a little at home where you pay for it as needed until you can get another free charge.

But how are we able to help OP if they need accessories and only tell us the made-up name Juniper? With that information I cannot tell them which rim protectors they get, if they should buy a rear screen protector, if they should get a rubber seal for their frunk. When OP goes to sell their “Juniper”, I cannot tell them if they’re selling it for a good price or not. It’s like telling your dog groomer you want to schedule a grooming session for your “Doggo” or “Pupper”. Cute made-up name, and obvious that you really mean to say “Dog”. However, it provides no usable information for the dog groomer to be able to give you a quote until you say the type of dog.
But I get it, being in a cute little club with fantasy land words that make you feel special is more important than actually identifying something as it is.

lol. So if I buy OP a rear screen protector, it’s guaranteed to fit his “Juniper” right? Because every “Juniper” has a rear screen right? Doesn’t matter what wheel protectors right? Because all “Junipers” have the same wheels? And if he wants to sell his “Juniper”, there’s only one price right? Hell, call your car insurance company and tell them you have a Model Y “Juniper”, I’m sure they’ll find it in their system right away!
So, Public Service Announcement: keep calling it the made-up name Juniper. I’m sure calling it this completely non-descript name really makes your gooning sessions that much better knowing that you’re a part of some “in the know, tesla insider” club.

Lovely. So by OP saying “Juniper” you have all the information to know that this is the exact accessory they will need if they need a screen protector? Doesn’t matter the build date? Doesn’t matter the trim? You’d tell OP’s mom to buy anything that says Juniper for OP’s Christmas because all Juniper accessories fit all Juniper cars?
But I get it, this is the only point you can halfway refute. No Juniper on Tesla, CarMax, Carvana website. No Juniper at my car insurance company. No Juniper one-size-fits-all pricing. So, by all means, please keep proving your flawed point “all day” and using the cute little made up name that makes you feel so sparkly inside.

Yes. That's what we do. DW's work has free charging but she doesn't get it every day. We take all the free electrons we can get. The degradation delta is minimal.
If she doesn't get the free charge, we leave the house at 55%. This amount insures she gets to work and home above 20%. And then we can have the scheduler finish charge in the morning.
Numerous_Way_3255
2026-03-12 03:01
So you charge up to whatever % uou can so you arrive back home at 80%?
SpiritualCatch6757
2026-03-12 03:13
Yes.
Charging above 80% is fine. Leaving it above 80% is the problem. We pay upwards of $0.60 kWh on peak so we're going to take every advantage of this free perk.
If DW regularly got the charger at work every day, we wouldn't do this. But it's been rare that we even get the car above 80% because she pulls into work at such a low SoC.

Monday-Wednesday charge the car to 80%
Thursday charge the car to 90%
Friday charge the car to 100% (must schedule complete time so it doesn't sit at 100)

Thanks for the feedback!! Hey I have a question for you! Why do you need your charge the car to 90 on Thursdays? Assuming youre gonna charge it to 100 on Friday the next day anyway?
Thats exactly where im at right now… i thought maybe ill just charge to 80 everyday, and hope i get to charge at work everyday as well.. then just charge beyond 80 for the weekend.

I use the charger the car came with and charge off a 30 amp breaker so it only gets about 14-16 miles per hour.
In order to hit 100% on Friday I need to leave work with 90% on Thursday.
I can only charge a max of about 35-38% per 8 hour shift at work.
If you have a stage 2 set up with a 50amp breaker you can probably make adjustments or charge every other day along the same schedule.
