Frunk problem

SuccessfulParsley946 | 2026-03-11 03:15 | 36 views

I have a model y LR 2026. It is showing on my screen that the frunk is open. But it actually isn’t. Due to this the car doesn’t let me go past 25km/h (15 cheeseburgers/h). Is this a common problem? What should I do?

The latch is stuck… it could truly be broken… is it really cold in your area? Maybe warm up the latch to loosen it, it maybe be frozen

It’s above freezing for the past week, so I don’t think it could be related to that. The latch still works though. That’s not the issue. The computer is not recognizing that it’s closed, that’s the issue

It’s a bad micro switch in the latch. I had the same thing happen in my ‘24 due to water intrusion. The temporary solution was to spray it with electrical contact cleaner; the permanent a new latch assembly done by mobile service.

Have you tried turning it off then back on again? Really though, try holding both scroll wheels and doing a restart. If that doesn't work, try a power cycle.

Same thing happen to my juniper model. They replaced the latch. Problem solved. Its due to ice buildup during cold weather and i did carwash almost everyday. So the latch got frozen. The advisor told me its a known problem to they replaced it. Well see how it goes next winter.

I had the same issue, booked a mobile service appointment, literally took them 10 minutes to rectify and swap the switch, it’s been fine since.

Had the same issue like a month ago, super annoying. Spray contact spray to the pins on the sensor (I did it when the sensor was still in place but it worked only for a few hours). I ended up removing the frunk plastic covers to get access to the sensor, unscrewed it and removed it. Then dried it for like 5mins with a hair dryer, cleaned the contact pins, bent the contact „plates“ and finally sprayed a lot of covert spray on the entire thing, also inside the socket where the cable goes in that comes from the car. When applying contract spray to the pins, make sure to manually press them in a few times to make sure contact spray gets everywhere. I ended up driving like 7.000km with this fix until I had to go to service center for another reason and they changed the sensor anyway.

Happened to my model 3. By chance is the frunk raised even a little? are you able to push it down? If so, push the frunk down and hold it down, and in the app click open on the frunk while simultaneously letting go of the frunk. It then popped open and from there i was able to shut it properly. You could be experiencing a different issue tho.

Had this a week ago on my juniper from December. Mobile service fixed it after 3 days. Unable to drive the car in that timeframe. Was a known issue with the sensors in the frunk. They switched it to a better version.

Thank you for the conversion to freedom units.

In my 24 MY I took the cover off in the frunk and just jostled the switch behind the emergency release button panel and it temporarily stopped the alert untill my service appointment

It's fairly common problem. Happened to my 2024 Y as well. I tried doing all sorts of things to the latch hoping to get it working again with no luck. If you want it fixed fast, drive it into the service center even without a appointment. If you don't mind waiting a few days mobile service will come out and replace it. It's a 5 minute job to replace the latch.

This happened on my '23 y this year. They had to replace the latch module. Had the car back the same day I dropped it off.

**Update** the issue resolved itself this morning. No more error messages

The sooner you start a Service Request through the Tesla app the sooner it will be fixed. This is a known part problem. I had thought Tesla informed the lot of owners of the recall but maybe not.
