Tire Leak

GhanaMrs | 2026-03-09 17:44 | 1 views

I have a slow leak and I went to NTB (National Tire & Battery) and they said they don’t do Teslas. They also said a lot of people won’t touch Tesla tires. Is the Tesla service center the only option?

discount tire

BootlegStreetlight 2026-03-09 17:48

Find another tire shop. No need to go to Tesla for that.

DuckTalesLOL 2026-03-09 17:48

Tires are tires, nothing special about Tesla tires.

Pnhan89 2026-03-09 17:50

A lot of people won’t touch Tesla tires? That particular person gave you wrong information.

UluOzgur 2026-03-09 17:51

That is the most funny thing I have heard about Tesla. Just get some pucks, put them in the holes around the battery and lift it up. Only difference between a different car and Tesla.

YouKidsGetOffMyYard 2026-03-09 17:53

Plenty of other tire shops will take a Tesla and actually want to make money. I guarantee that "we don't do Tesla's" is not a National Tire and Battery official policy. It's just those idiots that were working at the time made up policy because they heard a story from a drunk redneck at a bar about his brothers neighbors sisters friends babysitter that had a Tesla and it caught on fire.

Your statement is not correct, EV tires are notably different. They are shaped differently because EVs are heavier so the contact patch is different. They are more squared than curved at the edges. They also have sound dampening foam or padding inside the tire to reduce noise. They are built to handle stronger pulls of acceleration and weight, as EV tires experience far more torque and twist compared to regular tires. A tire shop won't turn away business unless they don't have the expertise, machinery, or a stock of EV tires.

america tires will do it for free

Unfair_Tonight_9797 2026-03-09 18:03

America’s tires. Tires are damn tires.

StormTrpr66 2026-03-09 18:05

That's surprising to hear. Tesla tires are no different than any other EV tires. Any legit tire shop should have plenty of experience with EV tires nowadays.

Discount Tires. Free rotations.

Curtnorth 2026-03-09 18:23

Lol,, so we don't do a thing, therefore somehow a LOT of people won't do the thing. Ridiculous fear mongering, any decent tire shop will be glad to take your money, tires is what they do. Avoid this place like the plague.

Illustrious-Tap-7690 2026-03-09 18:24

Yikes. Sounds like they just don't know what they are doing. Go to Discount Tire. You'll most likely get it fixed for free.

the_doshinator 2026-03-09 19:08

Yelp it. I patched my tire up for $50. Should last me thru the life of the tire.

DuckTalesLOL 2026-03-09 19:19

My point was in relation to "other shops don't touch Tesla's". Patching a slow leak on a EV tire is really no different than on a regular tire. I'd imagine most tire shops would be perfectly fine doing so. I've been to 3 small town shops in rural Arkansas and all 3 have had no trouble.

BasicBelch 2026-03-09 19:43

Incorrect. The only requirement is they have an XL load rating. There may be EV specific tires, but that is a matter of preference no different than a sporty tire, or an off road tire or an A/S tire etc

slipknottin 2026-03-09 19:45

I’ve had a lot of shops that won’t work on Tesla tires because they have the insulation/foam/whatever it is on the inside of the tires

Adventurous_Ad9414 2026-03-09 20:06

Discount tire has fixed a leak on my tire 3 times in _ months

Ornery_Climate1056 2026-03-09 20:08

All that means is that never, ever darken that business again. They're just friggin' tires as long as they know how to jack up the vehicle. Not a bad idea to get a set of jack pucks for your Tesla (they're cheap) in case they come in handy. I'll have my MYJ at Costco in a couple of days doing my winter tire swaps.

J-Crosby 2026-03-09 21:13

I have plugged one of my model 3 tires so much if you turned it inside out it would look like a porcupine. It had the foam inside.

TowElectric 2026-03-09 21:58

what? Every tire shop I've been to worked with me.

TowElectric 2026-03-09 21:59

What? No they aren't. I have standard tires on my car. Maybe a few models ship those weird foam-filled tires in them, but most people I know don't stick with those and they're not even that common in the first place. I think I have standard Bridgestone Alenza tires right now. Also, the EVs with an identical gas and electric drivetrains (like the Kia Nero) find the EV is about 550 pounds heavier. Like having your two fat cousins in the back seat.

kiasman 2026-03-09 22:04

If you use Discount, be sure to watch your vehicle the entire time. They damaged my Tesla, then tried to deny it. Even with clear video evidence that was captured through sentry mode. They eventually paid but it took a week and three extra trips to the store before they paid.

Upper-Somewhere6319 2026-03-09 22:08

I had a slow leak myself. I go to my local Les Schwab and besides giving free air for low tires they even check for leaks for free. They even gave me a complimentary repair. If they say they don’t do Tesla’s then imo they are just lazy.

ProbablyMyRealName 2026-03-10 00:29

I bought new tires for my Tesla from Discount Tire today. It was an easy process even though I bought a non-standard size that their computer says won’t fit. No problems. Spoiler: they fit.

kittysworld 2026-03-10 03:48

Will that prevent a plug from working?

slipknottin 2026-03-10 07:49

No. I’ve had places put plugs in with no issues.  I’ve had other places that do plugs and patches that just cut away the foam where they do the patch.

DifficultScientist23 2026-03-10 09:01

Delux plug kit on Amazon is around $20 and takes about 20 mins, 18 mins to get the kit out, ready the plug, the car wheel positioned just right and your tire inflator locked onto the valve stem and 2 mins (or less) to dig out the screw, ream out the hole and lube the hole, push the plug in w the auger and twist it and pull out the auger and cut off the end of the plug.. Inflate the tire. This is Waaay easier than it sounds and after 3 tire plugs - second nature for me.

marklyon 2026-03-10 21:18

There are shops that want nothing to do with tires the thane the noise reducing foam.

Pnhan89 2026-03-11 02:50

In my personal experience, the foam does not make that much of a difference. Not wanting to touch them is crazy. It’s like saying no I don’t want money.

Is your tire shop located in 2014?
