Cross country trip

I’m considering to drive from Vancouver to east cost Canada in August and back at the end of September with my wife. I want to use FSD as it works pretty well for me around Lower Mainland BC. Has anyone tried it? Is it a bad idea? Tesla said it can do it in 47 hours with 12-17 stops. I would not do it in one shot and will likely stop for sightseeing and at hotels over night along the way. Will appreciate if anyone wants to share their thoughts and experiences.

Lots of people take cross country roadtrips in their tesla's. I haven't done a cross country one yet but travel plenty of times in the state of California. If you do a search on Youtube, you can see people's experiences. My thought, just type in the destination in your navi and follow it. It will tell you when to stop to charge and how long to charge for. You can pre plan your tripe using the app "A Better Route Planner" as well.

I just did 4,000 miles across the USA using FSD in my 2026 Model Y. Did it in 2.5 days and it was incredible. Best road trip car you can get. Just plug your address into the Tesla nav and go, it calculates everything and you end up stopping every 2.5 hours or so which is actually nice to break up the day and stretch, bathroom, drink water, etc. It is helpful to stay at Airbnb's with level 2 charging so you can start the next day of your drive with 100% SoC but not totally necessary. I find Airbnb's with level 2 charging are more reliable than hotels with chargers.

I drive San Diego to Toronto via Vancouver about 6 years ago, but back then the trans-Canada north of Superior wasn't completed yet so I had to go down through Chicago and then across via Sarnia over toward Toronto. I'm sure it's just fine now. I've driven the north shore route in a gas car maybe 8 years ago and it's pretty remote and sparse, but the charger spacing is just fine.

I'm hoping to use FSD most of the time. I have the latest version, and it is mostly reliable. However, I experienced some strange behavior when the light turns yellow; it was very indecisive and stopped in the middle of the intersection.
