Model Y finally updated from 13.2.9 to 14.2.2.5. Do you think it's an improvement or did you prefer 13.2?

I've had a Juniper MY for just over a week now. It came with 13.2.9 and finally updated to [14.2.2.5](http://14.2.2.5) Friday night. I took a 60 mile drive yesterday, mostly freeway, and found a couple of new things I'm not so sure about, mostly while driving at night. The biggest things I noticed are new nags that show up, these happened at night. I got a couple of "Keep Hands Ready" warnings and a couple of "Hands Free Driving Off" and then "Hands Free Driving On". They happened on a freeway around 10:30 at night, not a lot of traffic, although I was eating a slice of pizza but I always had one hand free. And I'm not sure what Hands Free Driving Off means. Does that mean it's no longer steering? I've only had the car for a week but I never noticed these nags in 13.2. I'm not really sure what their purpose is. 13.2 handled night driving just fine without those nags. Also noticed that the FSD driving profiles could use a bit of tweaking. In some cases, even in Chill mode it followed a little too closely for my comfort. I hadn't noticed this with 13.2. And like some other people have mentioned, the loss of ability to set max speed while driving in any given profile is somewhat disappointing. Hopefully they either bring it back or tweak the profiles a little bit. I'm sure there have been plenty of other changes too but these are the things I noticed. That said, it parallel parked itself very impressively. I like the destination self-park settings too. I hope they figure out how to get it to self park in a tight garage soon. What's the general consensus on [14.2.2.5](http://14.2.2.5) vs 13.2.9? Improvement or a step back?

Gotta admit, I do not care that much about the car to pay attention to every release.

It's light years better. Of course there are some regressions but overall it's much better.

HullRipper 2026-03-08 17:46

Then this post isn't for you especially since this isn't talking about a minor version upgrade. Why even bother commenting?

colokan2224 2026-03-08 17:49

I guess the same reason you bothered to reply to my comment

Just saw this thread on the FSD subreddit. [https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaFSD/comments/1rnsugz/v14225\_sucks\_big\_time/](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaFSD/comments/1rnsugz/v14225_sucks_big_time/) Looks like the consensus over there is that [14.2.2.5](http://14.2.2.5) sucks.

I'm confused.. you found a very long thread with comments that already talks about v13 vs v14 so you decided to ask in a different thread? What am I missing here?

StormTrpr66 2026-03-08 22:27

lol...are you easily confused in general? I created this thread after the experiences I had this weekend with v13 and v14. A couple of hours after I created this thread, I saw the other thread. If you're still confused, look at the time stamps on this thread. To clarify any further confusion you may have about how clocks work, 6 hours (when I created this thread) is longer than 3 hours (when I posted that I had found the other thread.) Any other confusion I can clear up for you?

StormTrpr66 2026-03-08 22:43

Why would you even hang out on a subreddit for something you don't care about? Anyway, you can't not see the difference between v13 and v14. I'm a new owner and some of the differences are so visible that you can't miss them, unless of course you don't use FSD.

People saying light years better, and then OP just mentioned it can't set max speed, doesn't sound like light years better to me. That is a very important feature because I don't want to get speeding ticket.

Kappokaako02 2026-03-08 22:47

That feature is gone forever yer gonna have to Get over it. The profiles are good enough that you'll just learn to set chill if you want it under the speed limit. Standard to the speed limit. And the others to faster. Losing a feature that didn't really work all that well is not a loss. My MY would constantly drive slower than the fastest speed I'd set.

Putrid-Box4866 2026-03-08 22:49

The thing is, chill goes over the speed limit, that is why it’s important.

Kappokaako02 2026-03-08 22:49

It definitely does not for me. Not even Close.

StormTrpr66 2026-03-08 22:59

Not by a lot but it has gone over the speed limit for me in just the one day I've used v14.2.2.5. Standard also seems a bit aggressive in driving style. I didn't notice that with 13.2. Next week I'll be using FSD to drive to and from work every day so I'll have more data.

Putrid-Box4866 2026-03-08 23:43

Ok that’s good to hear then, but other people have varying experiences saying it goes 20 above limit and they can’t control because you can’t set max. That’s what’s bothering me lately if I have go update to v14 or not.

Kappokaako02 2026-03-08 23:43

Ok that sucks. But I'm telling you i had endless problems on 12 and 13. It's a trade for significantly more intelligence fsd. But you def don't have to

Putrid-Box4866 2026-03-09 00:01

Yeah, I probably have to hold off since I never had problem with 13.2.9 really. I will hold off as long as I could, until there’s a very compelling reason to upgrade, and I can’t think of any right now other than an update to enable unsupervised maybe.

Kappokaako02 2026-03-09 00:02

lol 13.2.9 ran so many extremely red lights for me

Putrid-Box4866 2026-03-09 00:08

I am using chill and standard sometimes and never had an issue. But if it starts doing that, then I will definitely update immediately. So yeah, I hope it doesn’t.

Positive_League_5534 2026-03-09 00:50

13 was more stable. Far from AV, but fairly predictable where it would need help. [14.2.2.2](http://14.2.2.2) was so bad and dangerous we discontinued using it. Problems we had: 1. Disconnected dangerously from NAV...making wrong turns including into exits of parking lots, wrong way on One Way roads, etc. 2. Slamming on the brakes for yellow lights. 3. The usual Right Turn on Red, School Zones, Construction Zones nonsense.

StormTrpr66 2026-03-09 00:51

Have you tried [14.2.2.5](http://14.2.2.5) yet? I never had [14.2.2.2](http://14.2.2.2) so can't really compare. Mine went straight from 13.2.9 to 14.2.2.5.

Positive_League_5534 2026-03-09 01:03

No, we discontinued the subscription at [14.2.2.2](http://14.2.2.2) Being a beta tester in a car isn't my idea of smart. Perhaps when a real new version comes out I'll try it again. We had it for a year before 14.2.2.2.
