Hardware 5? It has been announced already?

WIth the ram shortage/price hikes do we know if it's still on track for early 2027?

I would wait tbh. I moved on it now because of FSD transfer. If you have no such constraints, wait.

Wait for hardware 69

Waiting is stupid. Nobody knows when the next FSD computer is coming out. If Tesla says early 2027, then expect mid-late 2027 at the absolute earliest. And then you’re gonna be here asking if you should wait for HW6.

Why hw5? Why not hw11? There’s always going to be something better later.

I had the same question the other day. I test drove the Y and FSD's ability to handle everyday traffic convinced me this was all I need. I'm sure hw5 will be better, but model y now with the latest fsd is dialed in.

To be realistic, it will be 2028 before AI5 running an AI5 specific model happens. With advances in model compression and distillation, the performance difference between 4 or 5 may well be negligible.

I would wait. I'm pretty sure HW5 will be a lot more then simple computer upgrades. I would guess it will involve sprayers for the side repeaters and possibly the rear camera as well.

What could HW5 possibly do that HW4 is not already doing? People are driving cross country and using FSD for 99.9% of the trip.

I don't know what HW5 will bring with it but I traded in a 2023 Rav4 Prime for a MY Premium AWD last week because the FSD on HW4 already does almost everything I want at the moment and I didn't feel like waiting for who knows how long. Also my trade-in value wasn't going to get any higher so I decided that now was the right time.

I’m doubtful the AI5 refresh is happening in 2026.

I would just buy now. There's no concrete info on HW5, and all the FSD dev work is focused on HW4 right now.
Just pull the trigger and enjoy your purchase!

If everyone decided to wait for AI5 hardware and Tesla didn’t sell a car in 2026 there would be no AI5 hardware.

You have to jump in at some point. You can keep waiting for the "next best thing" but it's like waiting for the Galaxy S28 or the iPhone 18 right now - yes, they're coming, but then you might as well wait for the S29/i19 because they're going to be so much better.

This topic should be banned…you got a bunch of idiots who reply to these who acted like HW5 was coming out in 2025…..dont take advice from anyone with HW3
