Is this normal or not

PreparationOk5091 | 2026-03-07 13:29 | 5 views

Hello! I am switching soon from my winter tyres to my summer ones on my tesla model y. Are these cracks/exfoliation normal or not? The tyres were on the front, they are hankook ventus s1 evo 3 ev and have only 3 years. Thank you.

So, how many miles of use in the 3 years?

dfergsn 2026-03-07 13:36

Tread to low - for you and your passengers safety get some new ones and feel good 😎

PreparationOk5091 2026-03-07 13:37

Around 18000 miles

Myles_Standish250 2026-03-07 13:37

Those look like archeological artifacts. I’d replace them.

stuart_lawton 2026-03-07 13:38

Those are ready for the bin 100%

PreparationOk5091 2026-03-07 13:38

They still have around 4 mm/ 5/32 inch

leredditxddd 2026-03-07 13:41

Those look like they've got 100k miles on them. Do not put them on

PreparationOk5091 2026-03-07 13:43

Only 18k. That s why i got so surprised when i saw them. Looks like hankook has some serious quality control problems .

PsychologicalAd3253 2026-03-07 13:44

At first I had no clue wtf I was looking at

Rasmus_DC78 2026-03-07 13:46

have you looked on the date stamp, on the tire, some tirestores, will sell you old but unused tires, this seems like simply rubber gone old, you can see this on tires 5+ years old. Better quality brands, like Michelin / Continental i normally would say later, but i have seen people put 3-4 year old tires on cars in a new sale, so we always check the date stamp on the tire, it has a WEEK+YEAR..

Not-A-Throwaway789 2026-03-07 13:47

Same. That tread separation happens on tires that are that worn.

PreparationOk5091 2026-03-07 13:52

0823. quality control really low apparently in hankook tires.

economic-buffer901 2026-03-07 13:54

OP should learn how to take better pics. Tyres look may pops!

JustAcivilian24 2026-03-07 13:54

Is this the liberty bell?

IMI4tth3w 2026-03-07 14:01

For starters, cleaning the tires up with something like a pressure washer would help us better understand the condition. Also getting better pictures of the tires. Although from here they look exceptionally bad.

GamerInfinity1996 2026-03-07 14:02

Right? Tires with some sort of weird wood next to them. Huh?

Sweet_Yellow_8646 2026-03-07 14:14

Those tires are worn out! Nevermind the cracks

Sweet_Yellow_8646 2026-03-07 14:15

Those tires are mad cooked

Beginning_End_361 2026-03-07 14:19

Before I read the post, I thought this was a concrete block wall.

EpicBrievenbus 2026-03-07 14:25

Did you use some chemical to try and clean these tires before storage? They look god awful, as if something has been breaking down the rubber over a very long time. Also, what the hell is going on with the shape of the tire? It's not even round anymore (look at bottom right side on the last picture).

mrwildacct 2026-03-07 14:33

Yes it is normal for new drivers to wait too long to replace their tires.

JB-ZR1 2026-03-07 14:42

Have they been sitting outside in the sun without being driven much? They need replacement for sure.

Pitiful-Art-423 2026-03-07 16:00

It actually looks as if the tire outfit returned old tires to you, and you're just now noticing. Were they shelved in a plastic bag that you didn't examine when you drove home?

Swordru 2026-03-07 17:00

How were these stored? This is brutal for 18k miles.

PreparationOk5091 2026-03-08 13:10

In plastic bags, in my garage , which is heated during the winter.
