Buying a used MY from a dealer vs Tesla

_dutchbag22 | 2026-03-07 01:06 | 1 views

In the market for my first Tesla, looking at a 2023 Model Y. I know I need to be looking for HW4 if I can find it, but what else do I need to be aware of buying from a dealers buying one from Tesla directly.

Tesla has an extra year of warranty. Otherwise. No difference.

I found my 24 MYP with lower mileage cheaper at a local dealership (Mercedes) last April vs what Tesla had. They also matched what Carmax was going to give me for a trade in. The factory warranty is still in tact but you get an additional year if you buy direct from Tesla. Not a deal breaker for me because I got lower mileage and lower cost.

I boiught one from a dealership last december and another from tesla a week agao. I got a better car with an extra year of warranty, a free acceleration boost software upgrade and then the tesla financing was 9.3 vs 15% at dealer… much happier working with tesla

Tesla gives the extra warranty and typically throws in acceleration boost. But if they don’t have what you want in your area you have to dump a bunch of cash in shipping. For me that didn’t make sense since I needed to use that toward my down payment. And they typically run a couple grand over market, at least for my area. I had a great experience with EV Auto.

I opted for Tesla. Good with making the car feel brand new again and not just a detailing. New tires. One year warranty. It wasn’t that much more than another dealership but I feel safer knowing Tesla did their own inspection.

And here I thought I lucked out with new tires on the CPO MYLR I got for my son.

I would check but is Tesla stripping autopilot from it's used inventory as well as new cars?  That alone would save you from subbing FSD for most people

Tesla supposedly does their own inspections, and they would know what to look for that is critical. You sacrifice that for a cheaper on average dealer price
