Complimentary Wheel/tire and windshield coverage for first 30 days of ownership (new vehicle)

Wanted to share my experience for newer buyers: Picked up a model y premium awd recently, and received a message shortly after that Tesla gives buyers of new vehicles a complimentary 30 days of coverage for wheels/tires and the windshield. (The message specified that the windshield was protected from chips and minor crack repairs) Well, on my second drive a rock chipped the windshield in the lower portion. It wasn’t too bad, and I assumed that they’d just repair the chip at no cost and get me on my way. The service advisor took a quick look when I was dropping off and advised that full replacement was necessary. To my surprise, full replacement was still free of charge, and they were able to get it replaced in a couple hours at the local service center. If you just bought, or are planning to buy, a new Tesla soon, be sure to keep this free coverage in mind for the first 30 days.

Do you have a picture of the rock chip that you can post? I just had a rock chip and I do have that insurance. The problem is that I just got my windshield tinted for like $300. I’d hate to replace my whole windshield and pay that again. I’m going in for service next week.

I don’t have a pic, but the rock chip was very small. It was directly in the center, and about 4-5 inches up from the bottom. Apparently, there is an area of the windshield that will cause them to recommend replacement, due to the airbags in the front and structural concerns. My chip occurred on the drive home after getting everything tinted… so I totally understand the pain of getting it retinted right after 🥲

Don't forget to subscribe to keep coverage.

I got 30 days of FSD but had to pay for this. I guess 100 dollars free is better than 16 though.

3-day owner here. I don’t usually spring for additional coverages/warranties, but I did for the windshield. I am always on trucker routes. For tires I am going to swing by Discount Tire and see what they offer. Their location is way more convenient than my service center. My service center has mobile service, but I still need to ask around about how good it is. I’m in tornado/hail storm country and there are always roofers working somewhere. In 20 years I haven’t owned a vehicle that hasn’t at some point picked up nail or chunk of metal.

Tesla tire protection covers the wheel also. Wheels are 800 to 1000 each.
