Tire rotation

YesPleass | 2026-03-05 20:11 | 5 views

What do most people do? Do you bring it to the dealer or somewhere else? And what is the cost to do that? Also I got conflicting answers - can Tesla tires be plugged for a once a week slow leak? Thanks.

Discount Tire does rotations for free. They even patched a tired on my son's Model 3 for free too - it was not purchased from them too. They are a great store.

I'm an outlier, but I just rotate em myself. I don't want anyone going full nascar impact wrench on my wheels. Previously, I had quite a few instances of stripped bolts put on near sideways. I've generally plugged my tires on my non-telsas, sometimes huge holes with multiple plugs. However, I would feel less safe with the MYP and doing quick accelerations with a compromised tire. So I'd have to weigh that out

landude1 2026-03-05 20:16

We take ours to a close inspection center, I think it was 30 dollars last time..

fratzba 2026-03-05 20:19

Another +1 for Discount Tire, they work on Tesla’s here frequently, and know what they’re doing

itsJonathanRN 2026-03-05 20:20

I also rotate mine myself. Cheap Walmart impact wrench and a torque wrench pay for themselves after a couple of years. Yes I know Discount Tire will do it for free but I don't like scheduling time out of my day to go to the shop and waiting however long for it to be done. I would rather do it at my own convenience. Doing it yourself will also give you a good chance to inspect the suspension and the brakes while the wheels are off. I have also plugged some tires on my model 3 without issue. Though YMMV.

Flaky_Guarantee5869 2026-03-05 20:21

I did it myself but at the time I didn't have a floor jack or a impact gun. Decided on the long run it'll work out because I have 3 cars. Spent around 200$ for an impact and harbor freight floor jack.

BelethorsGeneralShit 2026-03-05 20:23

Literally any tire shop can rotate tires. And you need to plug a tire once a week? That doesn't make any sense. If the plug isn't holding air, then do a patch. If the patch isn't holding air, then get a new tire.

YesPleass 2026-03-05 20:25

Sorry. No I didn’t plug anything yet. But I fill it with air and the about a week later it lost enough air that I get told it’s low.

YesPleass 2026-03-05 20:27

Discount tire is not in my state :( I was quoted $100 from a place that did my Autobody work after I got rear ended a few months back.

harda_toenail 2026-03-05 20:31

I do them myself. With an impact wrench. Final torque is with a torque wrench but taking them off and getting them back on close to torque is done with power tool

CopperBlitter 2026-03-05 20:33

As we head into colder temperatures, that's normal. As it warms up, it's not. Loss of air indicates a slow leak due to a hole, a bad valve stem, or a bad seal between the tire and rim.

TJayClark 2026-03-05 20:36

Discount tire - roughly every 10k miles (yes, I know the manual says every 6,250mi) Currently at 100k miles and changed tires every 50k miles, with even wear

Fun_Beach9072 2026-03-05 20:41

I use the app and Tesla comes to me for $60

Traditional_Ask262 2026-03-05 20:44

Tesla Mobile Service is coming to my house next week to rotate my tires, replace the wiper blades , replace the cabin filter and replace the low voltage battery. Cost of the tire rotation is $65.

xX_Justin_Xx 2026-03-05 20:47

Ive done Mavis tire. Same thing as discount tire. Free rotations and patches even if you didnt buy the tires there.

CourseEcstatic6202 2026-03-05 20:55

Discount/America’s Tire. Every 5K miles. Free

LindenSwole 2026-03-05 20:56

Discount Tire, and free.

stadce071012 2026-03-05 21:04

I rotate them in my driveway. With two floor jacks it takes less than 20 minutes, and it’s free. Tesla tires are no different than any other tires, other than the OEM tires have sound dampening foam. Discount Tire can patch them. Tesla Service does not patch at all, they only replace.

Smooth-Exhibit 2026-03-05 21:10

I always rotate my own tires. It actually takes less time and I can inspect the brakes.

keepitcleanforwork 2026-03-05 21:11

Tesla mobile service

Life_Tie_9514 2026-03-05 21:14

I took mine to Costco. Rotation and Balance for $25.99. With an appointment was 30 minutes tops... Didn't have enough time to finish my hot dog before they called me it was ready. Tesla wanted $65 and i had to go drop off the car first. They didn't want to come out with the mobile ranger any more.

DuckTalesLOL 2026-03-05 21:42

You don't need Tesla for anything related to tires. Tires are tires, and there is nothing special about Tesla tires. Any tire shop can do it. Discount Tire here in my city does it for free. And you shouldn't need to plug a tire every week for loss of air. Air pressure fluctuates based on temperature, so it's very common to set the PSI to 42 at night, and then overnight in the cold wake up and they are at 38.

AlmostLiveRadio 2026-03-05 21:45

I go to the tire store where I bought them and he rotates them for free. And it’s much quicker than doing it at Discount Tire.

Wants-NotNeeds 2026-03-05 21:49

Where’ are the jack points? Assuming you use a floor jack, that single point of contact is crucial considering the location of the battery pack.

itsJonathanRN 2026-03-05 21:51

There are four points under the vehicle that are easy to locate. I use the rubber pucks when using the floor jack.

YesPleass 2026-03-05 21:53

It’s just the one tire and will go to 32 and then i fill It again.

DuckTalesLOL 2026-03-05 22:09

Sounds like you have a leak then and should be taking it to a tire shop to be looked at.

xXxjayceexXx 2026-03-05 23:11

I had a plug in my tire for the last 10k miles. Did it myself. I replaced the tires today because they were almost bald and the rainy season is coming. Worked just fine.

quentech 2026-03-06 00:12

dkol97 2026-03-06 00:38

Maybe your service area doesn't , but Tesla patched my tire just yesterday because I had a nail.

Mysterious_Signal226 2026-03-06 03:20

My Costco said they do not service Teslas :(

LightxDarkness93 2026-03-06 03:56

Americas tire. Tires are just tires. Nothing special

Firebird5488 2026-03-06 04:56

Call ahead to ask if they'll plug a Tesla tire. Some shops don't do it.

Firebird5488 2026-03-06 05:03

Do you leave them the Tesla key card?

Wants-NotNeeds 2026-03-06 07:05

Excellent, thanks!

LateMouse2020 2026-03-06 13:43

How else would they get in

matt0947 2026-03-06 16:08

Discount Tires or Americas Tires does rotations free of charge

NutzPup 2026-03-06 20:56

I just did mine myself. Took me 15 minutes.

Square_Ad_3276 2026-03-06 23:28

Tesla mobile service will do it at tour house.

Firebird5488 2026-03-07 07:35

GPT suggested some people use the phone key to keep the car unlocked but seems tedious to need to keep monitoring the progress.

LoneStarGut 2026-03-07 16:45

Yes, I give them the key card. Here in Austin, every time I go I see other Tesla's there. They know how to handle lifting them and driving them as they are so common here.
