Easiest Solution to Charge/Plug my Laptop In

LindenSwole | 2026-03-05 18:58 | 5 views

I thought I could use a simple Power Inverter plugged into the 12v to charge my laptop but I don't think it's drawing enough power. I have a 2023 MYLR if that helps. What easy solutions have you done to make this possible?

I have a regular 30w USB c car charger. I don't think I'd ever need a AC adapter.

Is this a 12v one with a USB-C port in it? And which kind of computer are you using? I think my work Lenovo must suck a ton of power.

Yes. 12v with USB c. I use a MacBook air. But since you mentioned Lenovo, yeah they require something like a 70w+ charger. I hear new power banks can have high output like 100w. Id buy that and double it as a car charger. My brother uses a 120v AC adapter in his car. He's an IT guy so his use was heavy. Mine is not. Edit: I just realized it's Tesla forum. And they don't have cigarette chargers. I'm sorry. I am if no help here.

I just bought a 165w power bank from Sharge for personal travel that might be the use-case here, I suppose. Darn. Thank you, though! I do travel with my Macbook, too, so your suggestion is still helpful.

unless changed in the later years, my 2023 MY does have a cigarette charger...

I have a 100w power bank for my handheld PC. My work computer has a 230w charger, and an optional 330w one. Those are gonna need dedicated outlets for a while longer…

How much power does your laptop require? The 12 volt outlets can output about 150 or so watts, which is fine for most, but won't be able to keep up with a gaming laptop in use.

That's interesting - my power brick is 65w for my Lenovo when I'm away from my desk

Is your inverter pure sine wave? Laptops often have trouble with the cheaper modified sine wave inverters.

The USB-C ports have power delivery. Just plug your laptop into them with a USB-C to USB-C cable.

Yeah mine does as well

What input voltage does the laptop need? But make sure your cable is rated for that also. I think I read somewhere the USB-C ports on the MY support PD up to 12V. The laptops I've owned can only accept input as low as 15V but normally 19V.

I just bought a 12V 30W adapter with USB-C output online and plug that into the console 12V outlet and charge my laptop from there. The laptop says it's slow charging, but it works and will never run out as long as it's plugged it.
