Wait a few months until their next quarterly sales results are about to tank due to the removal and they magically add it back.

I want to say it's pre-juniper models that allow autopilot, I think some earlier juniper models have it as well. But all will ship without it, and require FSD to do anything that way. Do I think they'll readd it? Maybe, but I'll bet they wont as FSD is quite nice.
As for how to check, It should be in the software/service area. you'll be able to see it listed.

As I understand it, that's no longer an option. You have cruise control by default or you pay for FSD.

I don't think you can, maybe a demo vehicle might still have it, but not sure you could get Tesla staff to accurately tell you if a particular car did or did not before you actually got the vehicle. Considering it's just a software change they could change it on the car any time before delivery.

Easy. Subscribe to FSD.
Boom! Autosteer enabled.
It also handles all the other monotonous driving tasks (throttle, brakes, obstructions, navigating traffic, etc) but it would get you autosteer.

That's the neat part: you can't! Get a used one with auto steer and save some money.

I don't think you can. Mine is a February build and it does not have autosteer. Just TACC and FSD. It's a minor disappointment but considering I bought this car specifically for FSD, I'm sure I'll survive!
Although it wouldn't surprise me if at some point they decide to put it back if they get enough complaints or if sales drop as a result. But if they don't, I'll do just fine with FSD since I planned on subscribing to it anyway.

I just called tesla, and they said the demo vehicle has it. Once reserved, it'll be removed though, so might as well get brand new instead of demo brand new.

This. My advisor said that if I subscribed to FSD I would have TACC, FSD, and Autosteer. This was wrong. No Autosteer in mine. But the demo I test drove did have it.

Easy. Just pay $1200 for a feature you used to get for free.
My problem is I hate FSD, but love my autopilot. Autopilot decreases my anxiety when I drive. FSD - during the two trials I did, radically increased it because I felt like I was back to teaching 16 yr old with a permit how to drive- watching everything like a hawk because it was constantly making stupid decisions and I had to jump in and correct it. Autopilot, in a sense, is dumb and predictable.

Yeah, I bought mine with EAP back when they offered it as an intermediate between TACC and FSD. TBH, I rarely use it. It’s either FSD most of the time or TACC when I’m towing.
Their marketing model is: buy the basic car, get the basic car. Or, pay $100/mo to get the works.
Eh, the price point is agreeable to me to have all the tech tools enabled.

My juniper delivered in Dec has autopilot on the sales sheet and it included. I think mid Jan was the cutoff for new orders.

In my anniversary survey I made it clear that no Autosteer means no more Teslas, and no more recommending Tesla from me. Hopefully they listen.

FSD was so much better before it started making constant lane changes

Tesla no longer offers Autosteer. The only way to get some semblance of Autosteer is to subscribe to the higher tier service, FSD.
Also, Autosteer *is* available on some Teslas if the owner, at the time of provisioning, also bought Enhanced Autopilot or EAP. Source: my car.

Is autosteer any good? I tried it when I had the FSD trial and it was really terrible compared to FSD. Does it only work on the highway?

I never use it as FSD is way better. Autosteer is still called beta.

It’s comparable - probably a little worse, but comparable to BlueCruise and SuperCruise. Obviously nothing on FSD, but on highways with clear markers it does the job keeping distance to the car in front and maintaining speed and lane.
I very rarely use it - I always subscribe to FSD if I have a road trip incoming, but the principle of “I have a 50K car that is from the most tech-forward automaker in the country and therefore it better have features that come standard in a Corolla” holds true for me.
In situations for example where I have a long highway daily commute if it comes when I don’t have FSD subscribed I’ll use it. Or sometimes if I get annoyed at lane changes or if I’m in an area where it’s doing a poor job at reading speed limits I’ll put it on so I still have my autopilot but can set max speed. It’s infrequent, but I do utilize it and wouldn’t want a car where it’s not even an option. Even in new cars that are subscribed to FSD Autosteer no longer exists. I don’t like taking choice away from consumers.

I wanna say mid January 2026 or sooner should have it.

I actually prefer autosteer over FSD. I don't have surprise speeding events with autosteer, and I change lanes when I deem it convenient, not the machine.

It’s kinda ok. It used to be the best non FSD lane centering tech in the auto world. But it isn’t that great anymore. My Toyota grand Highlander does a much better job with lane centering than auto steer.
