Having my version of ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’

SourPatchGirl- | 2026-03-05 06:24 | 442 views

I parked my car but of course it decided to go ice skating and take the charger with it. Would the mobile connector warranty cover a new charger? I just purchased it two weeks ago😭😔

Sorry but how would warranty cover something user inflicted? Some insurance might but doubt it in US.

rotarypower101 2026-03-05 06:30

>Would the mobile connector warranty cover a new charger? I feel a “the front fell off” joke brewing

justinj627 2026-03-05 06:30

I don’t think the warranty would cover something like this. I’d take it to service to have it removed safely and properly and you might just have to come out of pocket for another mobile connector.

instantnet 2026-03-05 06:31

Because it's 2026 and no one wants to be responsible for anything.

SourPatchGirl- 2026-03-05 06:34

I was able to get it out, just thought I would get opinions on whether it would be covered, gotta get the wording right for them to approve lol

NiceBench9100 2026-03-05 06:34

Why post this no-value post in multiple subreddits? You’re obviously just here for a dopamine hit.

Away-Scar7754 2026-03-05 06:35

😬 I’m sorry this happened to you. The car was parked and just slide on an icy driveway? That is incredibly bad luck if that’s the case. Submit for warranty, the worst that can happen is it gets rejected

SourPatchGirl- 2026-03-05 06:36

Ok judge Judy

Upstairs-Tea-6862 2026-03-05 06:36

Great book! Tough luck on the Tesla

SpikeyTwitch20 2026-03-05 06:37

No warranty will cover this. Home insurance at best if you have the coverage. Take the loss and learning experience and then learn to keep your drive cleared of snow.

SourPatchGirl- 2026-03-05 06:37

Yes, icy New England weather and the car slid down half my driveway taking the charger with it. I got it out with pliers but didn’t know if Tesla would possibly cover it. Gonna submit a ticket and see. Just wanted to see if people had experience with the mobile connector warranty

SpikeyTwitch20 2026-03-05 06:38

There’s no wording that will be accepted.

SpikeyTwitch20 2026-03-05 06:38

r/thefrontfelloff

RedElmo65 2026-03-05 06:48

Only lost the charger and not a broken charger port? Consider yourself blessed! A charger is cheap. A charging port is $$$$$$

SourPatchGirl- 2026-03-05 06:48

Ok, I’ll lyk

RedElmo65 2026-03-05 06:49

Cant say that enough times.

SourPatchGirl- 2026-03-05 06:49

Yes did not lose the much and thank god it didn’t end up on the street. New England winter this year is no joke

K3jai 2026-03-05 06:51

Sorry for your loss

RickS50 2026-03-05 07:00

Today I learned there's an intentional shear point in the NACS connector.

pinchy74 2026-03-05 07:01

The only warranty that would cover this is if you had AppleCare+, and then they charge you $79 to replace it. LOL

Wants-NotNeeds 2026-03-05 07:02

If the port is undamaged and the charger head/cord can be replaced… I will be impressed. Had to laugh thinking it looks like the equivalent of driving off with a gas nozzle in your filler neck of an old oil burning car.

SourPatchGirl- 2026-03-05 07:06

No that’s literally what I was thinking, car drove off with the charger😭

Loud-Way3333 2026-03-05 07:10

**This is avoidable if you haven’t skimped on the salt.**

SourPatchGirl- 2026-03-05 07:14

Damn you’re right, I forgot to salt the salt.

timaclover 2026-03-05 07:19

Wait can't you just use a potato cut in half like a broken light bulb in a socket?

rfdevere 2026-03-05 07:24

Multimeter in all the prongs… safety first. Screw right in the middle and some pliers to pull. Emergency disconnect for the charger - Google it. Could be fixed in an hour if lucky.

kmishra9 2026-03-05 07:26

To be fair, nobody ever wants to be responsible for anything. I get it. Sometimes it sucks that we just are, though.

SourPatchGirl- 2026-03-05 07:28

I was able to use pliers and get it out thankfully. I wanted to get insight on the mobile connector warranty and see if it would get covered

SourPatchGirl- 2026-03-05 07:29

I was able to use pliers and get it out!

TAoie83 2026-03-05 07:56

“My cable broke” worth a shot. I’d also remove this post lol 😹 you’re probably better off buying something off market place or offer up. They can be had pretty cheap

istealpixels 2026-03-05 08:05

I’m not responsible for that

brainmydamage 2026-03-05 08:24

How could this possibly be construed as a manufacturing defect in the charger?

prowlmedia 2026-03-05 09:08

It's not. In no way. Home insurance possibly... but even then they will probably say no.

prowlmedia 2026-03-05 09:24

So these should have either a forced spring loaded eject if the car is moving... Or should have been designed to actually face backwards at an angle so they release and pull out easily under tension. Actually the Angle the Cable comes out of the connecter handle may not help. I feel like auto / emergency release was not thought about at all with any EV. The ones that stick right out the side with giant flaps are utterly stupid. Good ones: A3 e-tron in the front behind a sliding Audi logo. Porsche Macan - Slides in and back. Porsche Tacan - Slides in and up. Caddy Lyriq - parallel out and down

Schnitzhole 2026-03-05 09:43

[Literally yesterday](https://www.reddit.com/r/dashcams/s/CR13ccvRbd). People are not even wanting to take responsibility for staying in their lanes.

Schnitzhole 2026-03-05 09:45

Did you drive off with it? Idk how you can apply Enough force to break it off otherwise. I still have nightmares from an under caffeinated morning i drove off with the gas pump attached after buying a coffee at the gas station. The damn gas handle end didnt even rip off like it should it instead ripped the whole front of the payment machine first and made a bunch of terrifying sparks and i stopped before the end came off.

Ok_Individual4716 2026-03-05 09:48

I like this new wireless charging update

NefariousnessFair362 2026-03-05 10:09

Blue Tack vandal

SourPatchGirl- 2026-03-05 10:13

Nope, there was freezing rain overnight turned to ice, I came home after work parked my car and plugged it in as usual. I’m eating breakfast and get a notification the charging stopped. I went outside and saw my car slid down the driveway and took the charger with it. Yes my driveway was shoveled and salted but it’s on a hill and there is black ice.

SourPatchGirl- 2026-03-05 10:14

It’s really convenient! If only it charged🤣

FragrantExcitement 2026-03-05 10:34

Sounds irresponsible

Radiant-Error6264 2026-03-05 10:43

Ice is no joke! This just happened to me too. I used my fiancés F250 and an hour later a neighbor was knocking to let me know the truck slid down the driveway and was in the street. Very wary of parking in the driveway now when it’s cold 😅

Congenial-Curmudgeon 2026-03-05 11:13

Homeowners insurance might, but the mobile connector cost is probably less than your deductible.

RamboTrucker 2026-03-05 11:13

Calling someone Judge Judy while posting your mistake is pretty hilarious. This is why her show existed.

CopperBlitter 2026-03-05 11:16

It's a MOBILE charger. Isn't it supposed to travel WITH the car? /s

cane_stanco 2026-03-05 11:18

Buy a new mobile connector and be thankful $300 is all this incident set you back, and the vehicle is fine. If this constitutes a horrible day, you live a charmed life.

CopperBlitter 2026-03-05 11:19

Do I understand that this is a mobile charger? If so, isn't the adapter that plugs into the car separately replaceable?

mannnerlygamer 2026-03-05 11:44

Note to self: buy back up charger. Single point of failure systems are never good

EmmyTheSwitch 2026-03-05 12:07

I wouldn’t submit a ticket. Personally, I’d go directly to the Tesla service center. If they also has ice the other day then they will definitely understand and do their best to help you out. Mt Kisco has honored warranty stuff for my ‘21MY. And for solace, I was also parked at the top of my sloping driveway, covered in that awful icy/sleet/rain/wintry mix. I use emergency brake and turn my tires when there is any possibility for those conditions. (I decided to wait til the sun hit it for an hour before I drove down, thank goodness school also saw it coming and had a delay!)

redditor_1886777 2026-03-05 12:07

On facebook marketplace or ebay, mobile connectors can be bought from 120-170. Just buy one instead of warranty which doesn’t cover your situation.

perplex1 2026-03-05 12:10

How is this user inflicted. The car slid off on ice?

HistoricalHurry8361 2026-03-05 12:13

Was this at a public charger? I’d see about recouping costs from their liability insurance. At home i installed speed bumps at the back of where my car sits as it’s on a pretty steep incline and we’re in the north east. I’ve seen this happen too many times

wotmp 2026-03-05 12:19

The user parked car on ice, on an incline. Then attached fixed cable to the device and left. Are you implying this is due to a manufacturer’s defect?

hessmo 2026-03-05 12:24

My model 3 did something similar, and that’s when I found out that the parking brake was only on the rear tires.

GoingLurking 2026-03-05 12:27

Most credit cards I carry include purchase protection and will cover repair or replacement cost if it occurs within 90 days of purchase. I would check the card that was used for this.

GoingLurking 2026-03-05 12:31

But you can’t accidentally engage Drive while plugged in, also you would have been ok.

Kind-Conversation605 2026-03-05 12:45

New wireless charging option

ifdefmoose 2026-03-05 12:56

No, it will not. Count yourself lucky if there’s no damage to the charge port.

mikeyman1967 2026-03-05 13:23

maybe a non conductive or insulated pliers and the internal emergency release? [https://talsem.com/pages/tesla-model-y-manually-releasing-charge-cable](https://talsem.com/pages/tesla-model-y-manually-releasing-charge-cable)

gtg465x2 2026-03-05 13:27

Probably not, but Tesla did replace my original mobile connector under warranty when a plastic piece broke off of one of the pins when I was removing it from my car. That was under normal, gentle use, though, not my car sliding down a hill.

Big_Enthusiasm_6760 2026-03-05 13:32

Sorry but nothing has made me laugh this much in a while this is an ultimate nightmare 😬😂

Earth-Jupiter-Mars 2026-03-05 13:49

[Happens all the time](https://www.investopedia.com/articles/economics/08/government-financial-bailout.asp), rich man runs out of money or “mismanages” funds and guess who’s going to reach in their pockets to keep him rich? If we’d just stop thinking like worker bees and regurgitating the morning news, your own insurance wouldn’t be a guessing game. Your medical, auto, etc etc all one big guess what all they 100% cover even though you pay monthly like clockwork..

Bak3dbaker 2026-03-05 14:02

Highly unlikely op. However I’d suggest checking Facebook marketplace for a used charger. I picked one up very cheap recently and there’s quite a few listed in my area selling for about half the cost of a new one.

Parking-Pay-8011 2026-03-05 14:29

Broke by someone?

imp4455 2026-03-05 14:30

Ill give you a dollar to lick it.

turnerm05 2026-03-05 14:36

Oh man - that's rough and a very unfortunate accident! Don't think warranty will cover it unfortunately. But never hurts to ask - your local service center may be willing to work with you on it.

Chonbowwa 2026-03-05 15:09

Butt plug without the handle 🫥

ngvuanh 2026-03-05 15:18

Your mobile charger didn't break by itself, so it's a no for you to get warranty replacement.

ggfb20 2026-03-05 15:19

This is one of the reasons I use my American Express Platinum card for daily non food and non charging purposes. They would cover that without question, even for something accidental like that.

north7 2026-03-05 15:31

If there is that's a *great* thing. Much cheaper to replace the mobile charger than repair the charging port.

Smartomation 2026-03-05 15:38

So does it still work ? have you tried charging ?

Transient77 2026-03-05 15:46

Everyone is saying it won't be covered, but this was my thought as well. Check the features of the credit card you used to make the purchase, it might cover accidental damage like this!

ggfb20 2026-03-05 15:51

Indeed, because purchase protection is not exclusive to American Express. Many other cards provide it, and even with having to produce proof it's still worth looking into.

knownikko 2026-03-05 15:51

I do not think warranty means what you think it does. The only warranty you have against stupid is called insurance.

RickS50 2026-03-05 16:00

Was easier to remedy. Heck, it looks like the break point is far back enough from the port that if there were an arc flash (no evidence of any here) it wouldn't weld what's left of the connector to the charge port even.

JIsADev 2026-03-05 16:12

If you bought it from Amazon maybe you could return it and say it was defective

SucreTease 2026-03-05 16:15

You should be able to replace just the cable.

django24_7_365 2026-03-05 16:19

The handle inside the trunk would not release it?

Skylake52 2026-03-05 16:34

I mean it's not the mobile connector's fault. It's an unlucky one, but it's still a user error. If anything the mobile connector did its job by breaking itself and not ripping out the whole charge assembly off the panel. Just pay and consider it the price to have this funny story

Greeniegirl21 2026-03-05 17:05

My Tesla won’t engage into D when plugged in. How does this happen?

Legitimate_March_622 2026-03-05 17:15

Just put it in rice. You will be fine

FlatAd768 2026-03-05 17:25

Think op is saying the car slid on its own

AdCareless1761 2026-03-05 17:50

Hence why it’s such a better standard than freaking CCS

blackinthmiddle 2026-03-05 18:43

This exact thing happened with my wife's Lyriq. Her port seemed fine for about 3 weeks, then finally stopped working. It was replaced under warranty. The Emporia connector bent. I tried to fix it and it worked for a short period of time, but then one of the pins broke. Emporia is sending me a replacement cable for $50 as soon as they get more inventory. This was in our driveway, which has a slight slope. From now on, I have to make sure to salt the driveway well.

Tesla_fanboy87 2026-03-05 18:46

Unfortunately the truth. Cover your ass at all times, people will snake you when least expected.

basroil 2026-03-05 19:33

I mean doesn’t hurt to ask but I doubt Tesla will replace it. Try home or renters if you have either. Heck try the auto insurance.

xbimmerhue 2026-03-05 19:56

Wtf

OnCampus2K 2026-03-05 20:04

We should tow the Tesla outside of the environment.

Eighteen64 2026-03-05 20:21

Certainly not covered under any warranty (and I install these dozens of times per week) . Good news is you can get a new cable if you reach out to a reputable certified installer

AlmostLiveRadio 2026-03-05 21:02

It seems odd that the other end of a cord didn’t come out of the plug

NecessaryInternet603 2026-03-05 21:47

I bet you don't plug in again in your driveway when temperatures fall below freezing.

aps23 2026-03-05 23:13

There’s a manual release inside the trunk right behind there. It’s a little tab you can pull down on

No-Abbreviations-539 2026-03-06 01:23

try it, you never know 🤷

itsthewolfe 2026-03-06 11:00

Were you parked on a slope??

Illustrious-Ape 2026-03-06 11:36

Warranties cover manufacturer defect. This is not a defect - it’s a result of user error.

Ckn-bns-jns 2026-03-06 15:05

Did you try the manual release to get the charger bit out?

Topgun127 2026-03-06 16:02

There’s a company called EVject escape connector. It’s expensive but it would have prevented the charger being broken…I learned about from the @nowyouKnow guys https://youtube.com/shorts/qvP-99OkJts?si=YK0nPA_3IGp-hORv

Top_Entrepreneur4317 2026-03-06 16:04

Why it’s called mobile charger then🤣

jagwease 2026-03-06 16:32

I’m having a problem with Newtonian physics here and how this allegedly happened. If the car was parked on ice, OP is surprised it moved? Was the car moving when he got out? If not what was the cause of the motion? If the car wasn’t on ice already and an ice storm happened? Would not the tires still be on pavement? I have had tires grt locked in by ice in the past. Bottom line, this is OP negligence at work. He either didn’t notice the car wasn’t moving, or somehow set it in motion. The other explanation is that he isn’t telling tithe whole story. Probably a bit of both.

VastSetting2084 2026-03-06 17:40

Unlock the port get some electrician pliers and pull that sucker out.

Low_Positive3359 2026-03-06 18:50

Just repair the cable/plug. $100 max.

Consistent_Racer 2026-03-06 20:53

Oh My!

Otherwise_Lie_5970 2026-03-07 01:49

In the trunk you can release the lock lock in, and most likely take out the charger

Broozer98 2026-03-07 05:55

🤣🤣🤣

ParaIIax_ 2026-03-09 17:54

decent mobile connector deals on FB marketplace
