It’s not normal, I don’t see the oil change on there.
Depending on the type of 12v that's a bit short, but not crazy. I usually figure on about three years. Part will depend on use, temperatures, etc.
I think yea. Isn’t it about 2-4 years?
It’s a bit early but half the price of my trucks 12v, and I did have one of those die after a year so I wouldn’t let this keep you up at night. Maybe this one was just a dud.
Is this based on anything other than the time since the last replacement? In other words, was there a message on the screen? My 2021 Model Y is still on its original 4.5 -year-old 12V battery. (Knock on wood it gives me a warning before kicking the bucket. If not, I have a tiny 12V next to the tow hook and a jump starter in the frunk.)
Lead acid battery? Yes. Lithium ion battery? No
In az it's every 2 years.
First car?
My lasted about the same. $85.00 for the battery from Tesla and DIY 30-45 minutes. [https://service.tesla.com/docs/Public/diy/modely/en\_us/GUID-AE762FFF-8268-4BDF-9246-A2BB8D17B0B4.html](https://service.tesla.com/docs/Public/diy/modely/en_us/GUID-AE762FFF-8268-4BDF-9246-A2BB8D17B0B4.html)
How long should we expect the newer lithium ion battery to last would you say?
Some say 8+ years for the lithium 12 volt. It should last the lifetime of the car
Yup. In the desert, is not unusual. Same with the tires wearing fast.
Yet my 2017 Toyota Prius Prime is still running on the original 12v. This is nuts!
I had my combustion engine car battery 10y before I changed it. I live in area with long cold winters but I also have heated garage. Anyway 2.5 years sounds really low.
That's a low price for the specific 12v they usually put in 21 model ys, so at least they're not gouging for it. I'd probably put it off though for another year at least if that's an option
What kinda tiny 12v battery is that? My 12v is 6 years old and I should probably get some tiny battery to open the frunk in case the 12v craps out.
I think it’s a “A23” but a 9V battery might work too. Make sure to put it in a plastic bag so it doesn’t get wet.
