Issues with front license plate holder For 2026MY Premium

Warning about great looking ModelY License Plate Cover. Wanted to love this. Easy to install, looked great, seemingly solid. Yet, it fell off and was lost with my new license plate of 10 days after installation in a car wash. Discovered it was gone about an hour after being home. Went back to the car wash. They looked twice inside car wash and could not find it. They even acknowledged seeing it on their cameras as car was being cleaned. Here's the kicker. I had an M3 for 4 years without losing the front license holder using the mfg double sided tape stick-on holder (I always expected it to fall off, but it held for 4 years in all kinds of weather and multiple car washes). I cranked down the installation screw tight on the Alloy plate cover and wrote to the distributor today. Not looking for a refund, but an explanation about what might have happened. Downside, I had to replace my one remaining license plate since the lost one might turn up on a stolen car or worse, be part of an accident. I will be going back and using the double-sided tape license plate cover provided by Tesla. (not very impressive, but it works!) But I will wait until it is a bit warmer before installing. If you buy this product, be sure to figure out how to secure the plate so it doesn't come off.

I bought an adhesive replica. No holder necessary.

I just take mine off before each wash, takes like 20 seconds

>... wrote to the distributor today. If it's a fly by night no-name brand import especially off Amazon, then they won't care. They'll probably send you a Bluetooth earpiece preloaded with earwax from mid 2000s and ask you to leave a kind review.

Use the one provided. Stick on. Then install two screws. Easy. Free.

these kinds of holders arent supposed to be taken through a car wash.

I have one of these. There's no way it will survive a car wash. The arms for the plate are too delicate for the brush, and the whole contraption basically clamps onto the plastic grille in the front of the car. For everyday driving, it works just fine. I'm rather happy with it, given that one limitation.

I agree, now I know

My M3 was just stick on. Lost my head looking for a better looking option

Should have figured out. Now others can learn from my mistake

These cars aren’t meant to go through a car wash 🤣

https://a.co/d/0fN3AIOW Highly recommended this one. And don’t leave it attached 24/7, it’s for “Oh gee officer, I took it off for the car wash and forgot to put it back on! See, it’s right here…”

I'm using a Slipstream front bracket from ThatGrin.com on my 2021 Model Y. It's all metal and has been no problem with car washes. Not sure if they're still making these, however. IIRC their design was stolen by off-shore manufacturers who undercut them on pricing.

Check out The Platypus. Mounts on tow hook, it’s solid. Doesn’t mount in center though, which I happen to like but could put people off.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. It legit says in the manual to not bring these cars through a car wash.

Thanks I’ll check it out
