AWd vs RWd premium

Purple_Emergency_355 | 2026-03-02 02:50 | 3 views

I just sold 22 MYLR AWD. Still deciding on what to upgrade. Test drove the premiums- RWD vs AWD. Can’t decide! Honestly I don’t feel the difference. I live in south florida- summer rain gets bad but I don’t drive a lot.

As someone who bought AWD and has never needed it once. Get winter tires later if you need. Just get RWD.

Trytofindmenowbitch 2026-03-02 02:54

I was on the fence, but got the RWD. It’s plenty quick enough and I get extra range and had extra money for my preferred color.

For south Florida the RWD is fine. You'll give up a little acceleration but the car ain't exactly going to be slow. For South Dakota snow storms on the other hand the AWD is where it's at.

South Florida is endless summer. We rain in the summer though.

I use sloth on the FSD.

The prices right now are a bit outrageous

Joe_Immortan 2026-03-02 03:00

If you don’t feel a difference get the cheaper one. Especially since you live where it doesn’t snow

StormTrpr66 2026-03-02 03:05

Compared to what? Their prices are up and down quite a bit but compared to past price history, they are not that high. And don't forget to factor in the current financing of 0.99%. The only thing that sucks across the board with Teslas is their depreciation.

Purple_Emergency_355 2026-03-02 03:05

I paid more for my MYLR four years ago. The prices have actually dropped or there are more options

StormTrpr66 2026-03-02 03:11

The AWD has quite a bit more acceleration. As for AWD vs RWD in general, given a choice I will always go with AWD. I spent most of my live in FL and had all kinds of cars from sports cars to FWD to RWD and AWD. In So Fla rain, AWD will be better than RWD. I'm now in SoCal and even though it rains a lot less here than in So Fla, I still went with AWD. I rarely need the extra acceleration but it's nice to have when you need it. And when it does rain here the roads get very slippery. AWD give you better traction when accelerating and turning. The downsides for a Tesla are that AWD has less range and the tires will wear out a little faster. But it's worth it to me.

Do you plan to use FSD a lot? If so def get RWD. More efficiency and you’ll likely never even notice the difference. Esp since it doesn’t snow where you live.

Whit3boy316 2026-03-02 03:34

I did RWD cuz I don’t deals with weather, wanted the bump in range, wanted to save money

Putrid-Box4866 2026-03-02 03:34

If awd had more range, that would be an easy choice. But choosing less range for more $ and a feature I will never use because it doesn’t snow where I live, Tesla made the decision for me really.

I just traded in my 2022 AWD for a 2026 RWD premium. I live in an area where it doesn’t snow much. I always drove my AWD in chill mode anyway because my wife and kids would complain if I took off too quick. So the RWD is plenty quick and the savings were worth it. Edit: forgot to add that my 2022 had degraded to the point where I could no longer make a round trip that I used to make when it was new. I know degradation is part of ownership but I decided prioritizing range was important.

jefedezorros 2026-03-02 04:04

I was about to say anyone that bought a 2022 (as I did) laughed at that comment that current prices are outrageous.

Lat_Pilot 2026-03-02 04:16

I’m more concerned about max range than I am for speed. RWD is plenty fast for me.

Purple_Emergency_355 2026-03-02 04:19

I tried to sell it last year but I would of been under water. Today made a small profit and carvana picked up. My husband is the only one with the heavy foot. I felt I got less range also. I find it weird how quick I got to 50k miles when I literally drive 6 miles a day- I work near home .

This

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-03-02 05:10

If you can afford it AWD. It’s just so buttery smooth Tesla has the best AWD system too even better than Quattro out of spec did testing

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-03-02 05:10

We got less for more 😂😂

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-03-02 05:10

These juniper kiddos don’t know our suffering and pain we went thru

Schnitzhole 2026-03-02 05:52

Only get AWD if you want the extra power or drive in snow a lot, for me it made a difference but for most it won't. The slippery surface mode with FSD is only available on the AWD and made a huge difference slowing down all FSD profiles when it saw snow covered roads.

paladin_NA 2026-03-02 07:22

I really want to know this too. AWD vs. RWD. Honestly, I never guessed I would get AWD since my old bmw survived well in Toronto with winter tires.

K3jai 2026-03-02 07:28

RWD premium

Feisty_Crab7052 2026-03-02 11:52

AWD. But I don’t care about a little extra range, don’t need it.

Agile-Ad-8046 2026-03-02 18:14

Your insurance company wants you to get awd _$$$

jefedezorros 2026-03-02 21:14

In my day we didn’t have a tax credit. And the cars cost double!

jefedezorros 2026-03-02 21:21

I just looked back at my 2022 sales order. I paid $73k for LR AWD. Included $10k for FSD.

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-03-02 22:33

We paid more for less 🤣🤣

brucedpat 2026-03-03 00:19

We went from AWD TO Rwd after totaling our tesl Y and get MUCH better range than AWD
