You need a new rim. Sorry that sucks

bobaballs 2026-03-01 21:25

I would say it's time for a new wheel and tire.  Could it be okay, sure, but are you willing to risk your life to save 1000 bucks? Just look around on classified for take offs from people who swapped out to aftermarket rims.

Fire69 2026-03-01 21:25

Losing that cover is the least of your problems.

Babygrug 2026-03-01 21:27

I hit a pothole in my golf yearrrsss ago, and found a place that was re-machine the rims, it was cheaper than replacing

AwkwardlyPositioned 2026-03-01 21:29

It definitely looks like the wheel is at minimum bent, which would have caused the cap to pop off.

renfang 2026-03-01 21:34

replace it you don’t want to risk a blowout over $1k

adorablefuzzykitten 2026-03-01 21:48

Need a new rim immediately.

AZFJ60 2026-03-01 21:50

>is this bad? Yep

RojerLockless 2026-03-01 22:10

Its not good if thats what you're asking

Microshlongg 2026-03-01 22:37

What’s where everyone hitting potholes I’ve seen multiple Teslas with their potholes encounters posted

Single-Use-Again 2026-03-01 22:43

Solid advice. Good to know, thanks.

Single-Use-Again 2026-03-01 22:45

Infrastructure in the US is crumbling, if that's where OP is posting from.

bernbabybern51 2026-03-01 23:29

That's surprising with that much sidewall. Try a wheel repair shop.

Resolution_Powerful 2026-03-01 23:37

Yeah thats what exactly I am going to do and bring it to the repair shop. The damage is too minimal to have it replaced.

Resolution_Powerful 2026-03-01 23:53

Nyc been hit from a bad winter and created a ton of potholes

mystikekoez 2026-03-02 00:06

how deep was this pothole???

Resolution_Powerful 2026-03-02 00:07

It was pretty deep

mystikekoez 2026-03-02 00:11

is it possible your tires are under inflated? what psi are they all at now

Resolution_Powerful 2026-03-02 00:16

38

mystikekoez 2026-03-02 00:20

i recommend keeping a battery air compressor in the car and keeping the tires at 42psi (up to 45psi recommended), it’ll help a little bit with pot hole resistance - it’s not a miracle prevention but 38 is way too low for the 19” crossflows

mystikekoez 2026-03-02 00:21

you’ll still want to replace this wheel though

silentbutdead1y 2026-03-02 00:32

It’s pothole season right now because the ground is thawing.

silentbutdead1y 2026-03-02 00:33

It’s a good idea to keep it at 42 during spring when potholes are common.

Resolution_Powerful 2026-03-02 00:39

I am going to see if i can get it repaired first.. its too minor to replace the whole rim

ItsJustAnotherVoice 2026-03-02 01:00

Replacement wheel for sure. Cant reuse tire as the structural inside will cause the sidewall to bubble soon. Alignment also afterwards. Would get a inspection of the suspension if you bent anything else also

KansasKing107 2026-03-02 01:18

It’s probably fixable but wheel repair shops have wheels they do and don’t like to work on for various reasons. Just be ready to potentially need to buy a new wheel.

SuddenBackground6127 2026-03-02 01:37

Solid advice for a golf cart…

Mintyburst 2026-03-02 02:28

SoCal too, we just had rain from couple weeks ago and afterwards pothole spawns

SaveFerrisVote4Pedro 2026-03-02 02:34

Call your insurer, that car's a write-off

GameTimeYT 2026-03-02 03:18

find me the word “cart” in that comment

Schnitzhole 2026-03-02 05:30

the cover doesn't really matter but that bent rim can cause sudden air loss. definitely repair or replace

Fiatch294986 2026-03-02 13:21

Kinda 🤨

BasicBelch 2026-03-02 15:29

Id rather have a golf cart than a golf

FLGuyEWFL 2026-03-02 15:29

Auto insurance may cover the wheel and tire. With that kinda damage from a pot hole, have you checked under and around the wheel well? Be safe…

khattraa 2026-03-02 18:22

Rim is noticeably dented…the question to be answered: is it out of round or bent on the 90 degree from the radial plane… if either of those conditions exist you need to replace the rim…A good tire shop would be the route I would recommend

khattraa 2026-03-02 18:26

Golf cart max speed ~ 25mph; Tesla Model Y 0 - 60 in 4.6 seconds = New Rim

LieGold1484 2026-03-02 21:02

Not too bad

hightower82soru 2026-03-03 02:44

That can be fixed. Take it to a wheel repair shop.  Probably a couple hundred bucks but cheaper than a new wheel

borsTHEbarbarian 2026-03-03 18:43

"Shit'll buff out."
