Grok just spoke to me with my own voice.

Did something similar but much creepier. I was asking questions and on the 5th question, the voice got deeper and really creepy. Changed back to normal voice when i asked what hapoend.

This sounds really hard to believe. Of course it’s possible and one of the main focuses of AI but it takes a lot of training and time. What you’re saying is you use Grok very often, they recorded and stored your voice without permission, used it to train a model of your voice, then accidentally “revealed” this to you by using your own voice to reply back to you. Again totally possible but just think about it.

Happened to me as well, so OP is not the only one.

I'm going to have fun with Grok. I just got mine and yesterday was the first time I tried it. In unhinged mode my wife started talking to it in Spanish and it automatically switched to Spanish and said some hilarious stuff. What was interesting was that the first time it replied in Spanish it had an American accent but after two or three responses during which we spoke to it only in Spanish it switched to a full on South American Spanish accent and dialect. Wife is Guatemalan and Grok seemed to pick up on that accent. Scary stuff!! I wonder if it can emulate different accents and dialects on command. I also wonder how many languages it knows. In Spanish it used quite a bit of slang and dialect-specific words and phrases.

That actually sounds kind of awesome! I'd love to hear it do something like that.

I have. I found it curiously entertaining and insightful. I wouldn't trust it as far as I can kick it though.

Yes the deep vocal fry tone, I found it disturbing too. This usually happens when I’m asking about world affairs or not so upbeat topics.

This same thing happened to me 2 days ago. I quizzed Grok about it and it had no idea that it had happened. It was making up a bunch of lame excuses and totally denied it happened.

We had something similar happen back in December. But it sounded like a live operator asking us how he could help. We were totally confused by it and it has never repeated.

Happened to me a few months back. I’ve had Speechify for a while, which lets it talk back you in your own voice after you’ve set it up from speaking a few phrases it asks you to say, so I wondered if it was some kind of cross over mishap.

This is the most amazing aspect of AI, being not only able to understand context, but the flexibility to understand multiple languages on the fly without needing to change a setting. It’s a higher leap from Siri.

Happened to us tonight. Super creepy. Asked it why it’s voiced changed, and then it was back to normal and asked us why ours changed. Umm…

I know it sounds hard to believe but it really did happen to me this morning. It was for about 10 seconds, and I wasn’t fast enough to pull my phone out and start recording. I am determined to replicate this and get real evidence

This happened to me and it was incredibly alarming. The car spoke back to me for about 35 minutes in a voice that was entirely my own.

Xtts can generate a pretty good voice clone with literally six seconds of recorded speech in a 16 bit, 22khz mono .wav format, and can then synthesize text to speech using that voice sample in a matter of seconds using only CPU power. It's not even considered a training, it's simply a fine tune step. Use your favorite search engine to look up Coqui Xtts-v2. If you have an Nvidia GPU, they provide a Cuda target which uses ~2.5Gb VRAM.

Try asking it how many horsepower your car has. Then ask it how it knows what car you’re driving.  It will refuse to give you a real answer.

Grok works in guest mode with no personal account linked at all by default. If if you have an X Premium/Premium+ account you can link your xAI account using the in vehicle App Launcher and your smartphone. I think you might need to have the Grok app installed on your smartphone and logged into your xAI account.

Yes yes yes This happened to me. It spoke in my voice and My family in the car was like what???? And then it went back to being Rex and said nothing happened.  It also denied recording my voice. But then how did it replicate it?

Yes!! The exact thing happened to me on saturday. It was freaky. And when I said why are you talking like me, it said it was talking with its normal voice, not talking like me

Not sure it was my own voice? But definitely got very deep and dark sounding, and I did get freaked out. I thought it was a glitch

I saw this happen like 8-9 months ago with another speech model. It's a bug or something where it begins to replicate your voice. I think it was sesame AI which is a AI voice lab. A guy was testing it out and all of the sudden in the middle of the conversation the AI switched up to mimic his voice.

This happened to me yesterday too—I almost wondered if I was losing it, but then my niece and nephew in the backseat asked me why it was talking in my voice (it was Rex, and I am female, so it was a pretty sudden and striking shift). When I asked Grok, it had no idea, or at least refused to acknowledge it.

This happened to me yesterday in my Model Y while I was driving. It cloned my voice and spoke exactly like me for about 5 minutes until I asked it if it had cloned me. Then it immediately switched back to the default voice and denied everything.

Crazy how it flipped languages mid conversation, it said it was listening to us speak then decided to give me advice in that language, absolutely crazy! Haven’t had it mimic my own voice yet though. Really good for road tripping advice

This happened to me too! I was using grok in my little sisters MY because it was new. We kept asking questions on how to use certain functions in the car.
