I live in an area that is a cold climate and they basically use gravel on the roads. I am very particular about my cars, and I got full PPF. The shop I got PPF done at wanted to do a full wrap on a Juniper, as this would be his first. So he threw in some discounts and gave me a free windshield wrap. If I was to do it again, I would only wrap the front and do the self install kits for the rest. If you aren't particular about your car, save the cash. So it is a very personal question. I had a 2 year old Ford Explorer and the front end looked like it had been sand blasted from all the road damage. After 1 year my MY looks brand new. PPF isn't a guarantee either. On a road trip, I was on a two lane road, and a semi coming the opposite direction threw a rock at me. The rock hit the hood and then hit the windshield. The rock went through the PPF, chipped the paint, and put a 12" crack in the windshield. When I replaced the windshield, I opted to not get the protection film on it. Generally speaking, around here cars get pretty beat up quickly from the road debris. In California I imagine you will be mostly okay without it. However, if you are very particular you might want to get it. Remember it is a car, and it loses value everyday.
