2024 Tesla Model Y Performance vs 2026 Model Y premium RWD??

Clean_Neighborhood60 | 2026-03-01 01:16 | 4 views

Hi everyone, my Ioniq 5 lease is ending soon, and I’m looking for a replacement. This time, I’ll finance the car, so I’ll keep it for a while. I’m facing a dilemma between a “head” and a “heart” decision. There’s a brand-new 2026 premium RWD with a 0.99% APR. On the other hand, there’s a 2024 performance model with only 8,000 miles (including 3 months of FSD, Connectivity, and Super Charging), a 7.20% APR, and it was built in Austin. I’m torn between the two options. Please help me decide!

2026 no question.

Ehh. I have a 2024 MYP so I may be a bit biased. I personally wouldn’t buy a RWD bc I get winter weather. You should go to a credit union and see if they can beat the 7.2% financing

2026 is a much better car

Think Tesla like a cell phone, the 2026 model year is significantly improved in terms of technology. Add 0.99% APR promo on top, no brainer to go with 2026.

As captain disillusion always say, Love with your heart, use your head for everything else. So there’s that.

You aren't sticking with the Ioniq5? Why?

Credit unions should totally be able to beat that. Some are 4.99% or lower right now.

Drive them both and then decide. I have an MSP, an MYP and M3 rwd and I would take the AWD performance without question over any rwd ... especially if the price points were similar. To each his/her own.

Performance. Disagree with the ‘26 hype

As an owner off a ‘24 Y Performance, that is what I would go with. 18 months, 36k miles in all the weather New England throws at it. It is awesome. AWD and amazing speed in any condition but also drives nice and smooth for the boring daily shuffle and when the kids are on board. I would miss the acceleration and the better, slightly lowered and hunkered down look of the Performance. I swapped to 20” wheels after I think 26-28k miles for a slightly quicker (turn in and acceleration) and slightly more comfortable, while also helping with another 1/2” of wheel protection - and rotating. The ‘24 had all the kinks worked out. Sure, I would like the what look to be nicer seats and ambient lighting but not trading this anytime soon. Unfortunately will likely go to the upcoming Scout or Rivian next, Tesla doesn’t really want to build cars for drivers anymore.

The car is great, and I enjoyed it for the most part. However, the lack of technological advancements is quite frustrating. Hyundai has not made any significant improvements or updates to the car in the past two years.

Performance all day. That said, if you want the latest and greatest then lease a 26 performance. HW5 will be out in year or two and we’ll likely see HW4 get phased like HW3 did albeit not as bad.

I would imagine that the car supports over the air updates, so I see why that would be disappointing. I went EV shopping a few months ago and considered the Ev6 and ioniq5, but found out that they didn't even fix the ICCU issues with the mid cycle face-lift. I was pretty disappointed by that and went back to a Tesla.

If you have to finance a vehicle, then you can't financially afford it.
