My Tesla service center wants to charge $700 to do a vehicle health inspection. They said they don’t do pre warranty expiration inspections.

Update: These were the notes.
Technician Notes:
Our technician performed a comprehensive vehicle inspection as requested due to the upcoming warranty expiration. We identified wear and damage in the front link bushings during the evaluation. To address this, we replaced the front lower lateral links on both sides and the front lower compliance links on both sides, followed by a post-repair validation test drive. The repair was confirmed to be successful through a thorough check, ensuring all components are functioning properly.

Sorry to hear that, if possible, it might be worth trying a different service centre. I had a similar situation with my Model 3 where I was quoted £99 in the app, but after they replaced the suspension parts, they waived the fee entirely. It really seems to come down to who you end up dealing with.

Bro, same and they replaced everything in the rear! They had to order the parts. I did it because of that post. My wife’s 23MYLR had 48k when I sent hers in. The fee cost me $860 for them to look at it though, but well worth it.

Seems to me if the inspection proves warranted it should fall under WARRANTY. Unscrupulous charges imo.

Do you need to schedule such service months in advance? Previously my appointments with Tesla service always need to wait months.

Usually for me appointments are usually 2 to 3 weeks out for the weekends. You can probably get in on the weekday about 1 week or 2.

call neighboring service centers until you can get an appointment. Some cities and areas are just always backed up but you can go 20 miles away and get service right away

Same here - I just took my 2022 MYO in, made the cutoff by 3 days. Also had bad links and bushings, they replaced it all under warranty. They even waived the inspection fee. It was a problem I didn't even know I had (but would have presented itself in about a year according to the tech).
Many thanks to the community

I ended up getting the extended warranty, starting December 2025 for my M3LR 2023.
Do you think I still have the option of getting this inspection done proactively? Or am I out of luck since the original warranty has already expired.

I’m in the same boat with a 2023 with 45k. Starting to hear some clunks when turning and a noise every time I stop and go like the brake is engaging. What do I need to schedule to get this looked at under warranty?

hmmm... so this is the 5 year 50k mi warranty, correct? I also have a 23 MYLR but still <30k mi. I guess I can wait a couple of more years. Are there any noticeable symptoms to indicate it should be inspected and replaced?

My Model S Raven went out of warranty two years ago, but I got a 4-year extended warranty thrown in for free as a Tesla good will gesture when I purchased it for the churn I went through rejecting my original Raven because of paint defects Tesla was so famous for a few years back.
Of course, I never had an inspection done, but whatever breaks between now and 2028 will cost me only the $100 deductible. Indeed, the half shafts broke and had to be replaced last year. I would have had to pay $2.6k; paid $100 only instead.
My 2022 MYP likewise went out of warranty last December, and once again it dit not occur to me to have it inspected :(, but it has very low mileage, not even 20k. What I did do instead was purchase the Tesla extended 4-year whatever-mileage-it-is warranty. No upfront cost; $60 a month pay as you go, plus $100 deductible per claim, cancel any time. $60 a month for complete peace of mind and only $100 OOP was more than worth it to me. Nothing seems wrong with my MYP.

Then you tell them via chat (so you have written documentation of it….. “it feels loose and abnormal and I have SAFETY concerns”.

"My warranty is about to expire. I'd like you to inspect the car including all bushings and links. I hear a thumping in the rear when I go over bumps, and the front end feels sloppy."
My main warranty expired 2/22, I made this service request in-app on 2/20, they did the work on 2/26 but honored warranty and waived inspection fee due to the request being made prior to warranty expiration. This was in Orlando, FL (Eatonville Service Center). They did not provide a loaner or Uber credit

I find Tesla Service to sound really sketchy based on lots of anecdotes here. I scheduled an at home tire rotation this week, and if they show up and try to charge double, it’ll be the last time I ever get their service.

The one time I used mobile service (one of the side cameras died and they replaced it under warranty) the guy was great. In my experience, it’s the service centers that try to screw you.

Since you have the extended warranty i dont see why they wouldn't do it. Although I'm seeing that everyone has different results with each service center. But go ahead and request service and see what they say.

Does anyone have experience getting the links replaced under warranty if they aren't making any "sounds or clicking"? I had a inspection done last year and they recommended "replacing the front and lateral compliance links due to wear and tear" but wanted to charge me ~$1200 for it but I declined.
I then saw posts where people had their links replaced under warranty so I scheduled an appointment at another service center and they told me unless it's making a noise or causing an issue they wouldn't replace them under warranty.
I'm located in the So-Cal area with 1,200 mi left on my warranty.

When I scheduled a warranty inspection last summer the fee was $150 and they zero’s it out when they found defective parts that were replaced under warranty. Seems like each service center has its own rules.
