Trading 2024 Model Y RWD for 2025 Lyriq Luxury or 2024 Wrangler 4xe – Am I Making a Mistake?

ChargeOutrageous | 2026-02-28 12:52 | 6 views

I’m currently driving a 2024 Model Y RWD and just got a strong trade-in offer from a Cadillac dealership. Now I’m seriously considering either: • 2025 Cadillac Lyriq Luxury • 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4xe I’m test driving both today, but I’d love some real-world opinions before I make a move. My driving habits: • I don’t commute daily. • I drive maybe 50–70 km per week locally. • Once a month we do a longer 200–500 km weekend road trip. • Family of 3 (2-year-old kid), so comfort and ease matter a lot. ⸻ What I Love About Tesla The biggest thing: FSD. When I subscribe, I literally just put in navigation and the car handles the entire trip — lane changes, exits, highway driving — and I can focus on enjoying the ride with my wife and toddler. That’s huge for me on long drives. This is my biggest hesitation leaving Tesla. ⸻ Lyriq Concerns I really like the look and interior of the Lyriq. It feels more premium and quieter. But I keep seeing mixed reviews about: • Tech glitches • Software bugs • Infotainment issues • Driver assist inconsistencies How reliable is Super Cruise in real life compared to Tesla’s system? Can it realistically handle long highway trips smoothly, or is it more limited? Also curious about: • Long-term reliability • EV efficiency vs Tesla • Depreciation trends ⸻ Wrangler 4xe Thoughts Totally different direction, I know. It would be more “fun” and capable. But: • How is 4xe reliability long term? • Is PHEV complexity going to be a headache? • Maintenance costs vs EV? • Resale value in 3–4 years? I don’t drive enough weekly to justify gas savings as a major factor. This would be more of an emotional buy. ⸻ What I’m Really Trying to Decide Am I giving up a very optimized, low-stress, tech-forward daily driver (Model Y + FSD) for: • A more luxurious but potentially glitchy EV (Lyriq), or • A fun but potentially higher-maintenance PHEV (Wrangler 4xe)? Would love to hear from: • Lyriq owners (especially about tech reliability) • 4xe owners (real maintenance costs + depreciation experience) • Anyone who left Tesla and either regretted it or loved the switch Be brutally honest. I’m trying to avoid an expensive mistake.

Anecdote here. My buddy is a lemon law lawyer. He says the worst vehicles on the road right now are Stellantis (Jeep, Chrysler, etc) plug-in hybrids. Take that for what it’s worth.

Keep the Tesla or get a new one. It's the software experience that makes or breaks an EV in my opinion and nothing matches the Tesla in the US.

It's like a smartphone. Top high-end specs with 960448x zoom to Mars. At the end of the day, people stick to what works best for them daily.

Just my opinion but the two cars you're looking at are some of the most unreliable you will find. Jeeps are consistently at the bottom of all reliability ratings and so are Cadillacs, especially that model.

Idk how anyone can consider a stellantis product at this point. They literally could care less if the car works, they only care if the next quarters profit is good. My buddy bought a Dodge years ago and the trans would randomly blow up, it could even blow up like literally driving off the lot and stellantis knew about it for years and just kept using that trans cause they don't give a fuck.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think you mentioned anywhere the **why** of you wanting to get into a different vehicle. I would 100% not buy either of those options. Why are you considering jumping ship from the Model Y?

globesdustbin 2026-02-28 15:46

What’s wrong with your Y?

Equivalent-Draft9248 2026-02-28 16:04

I would not trade my Model Y for both of those cars.

Feisty_Crab7052 2026-02-28 16:05

Yes.

If you're considering anything made by stellantis then you haven't done all your homework.

OldishB 2026-02-28 18:02

Hard pass on either of those! Have you been in a new y?

Jedi_Gill 2026-02-28 19:02

You are making a huge mistake, especially once you mentioned that FSD is a deal breaker. I think everyone here is scratching their heads thinking? Why are you even considering this and not because we are Tesla Model Y fans, but because you've already pointed out what you live about the Y and it just doesn't make sense why your trying other options that are a downgrade. Btw if a Dealership is offering you a Greta deal for that Model Y, it's because they know what sells and what doesn't and the better the deal you're getting the better they feel they are getting in that deal? In what world do you think that a dealership is going to offer you a Greta deal out of the kindness of their heart. That alone should be a red flag, but you seem to want to give it all up over your definition of more luxury? BTW the options you noted aren't that luxurious to justify what you're losing.

Do not get a 4xe. I have a 2023 and it’s had at least 6 recalls 4 of them being about the battery which most recently called for “do not charge or park your car in a covered garage for risk of fire” something along those lines. My lease is up April and I just got a Tesla. You can visit the Jeep 4xe Reddit sub and see all the problems there.

Litig8or53 2026-02-28 20:36

Yes, you’re making a mistake. And a big one. Since you own a Tesla which is superior in every way.

ReaditorRedditor 2026-02-28 22:02

Do not get those. Get a model y performance 2026.

too_oh_ate 2026-02-28 22:53

Call me crazy but I think, among other things, the quality of the drive and the quality of the interior are pretty important for a car.

too_oh_ate 2026-02-28 22:54

OP you need to not focus on your wife and toddler while driving, and focus on the road. FSD is not perfect, and FSD clearly tells you to focus and be prepared to take over at a moments notice.

praguer56 2026-03-01 00:58

DO NOT BUY STALLANTIS! And be cautious with the Cadillac. I don't think they have all the bugs ironed out yet. It's just me, but I'd keep the Tesla.

antimagamagma 2026-03-01 14:56

rage bait. Go ahead and buy a jeep. lol.

EmergencyMonitor6117 2026-03-01 20:59

I would get another Model Y before getting either of these (esp. the Jeep). Full disclosure we have a 2026 Model Y LR AWD and a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.
