Warning for people who are transferring FSD: Telsa silently changed terms today.

TheNoLifeKing | 2026-02-28 02:51 | 88 views

Yesterday: If you ordered any Tesla, you could transfer FSD as long as you ORDERED before March 31st (See screenshot) Today: If you order any Tesla, you now have to take delivery before March 31st. (See here [https://www.tesla.com/support/fsd-transfer](https://www.tesla.com/support/fsd-transfer)) This moves my Model Y order outside of the FSD transfer window when it previously was able. Won't be taking delivery if this is the case once my order arrives.

I would message them before canceling just to be sure.

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 02:58

I'm likely going to let it deliver since I doubt I'll get a refund for the $250, but no chance I'm going to take delivery if this isn't adjusted.

QuentinLCrook 2026-02-28 03:00

Good old Telsa.

Electronic_Gap_3450 2026-02-28 03:18

As of this morning, when I placed my order, the policy was order by March 31st. I’m glad I have a screenshot of the old policy.

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 03:20

Speak to your rep, there's a high chance they won't honor it!

Just-Yogurt-568 2026-02-28 03:27

Brutal.

wtfredditacct 2026-02-28 03:34

If they changed the terms, I'll bet you can get your money back.

Always_working_hardd 2026-02-28 03:38

This is the primary reason I did not buy FSD outright. One of the supporting reasons is that it is junk for the most part in my experience. Mainly the speed control - when I use any other form of cruise control, I am aware of the speed limit and the speed I am doing relative to that limit, which is a hard number. With FSD, I am constantly trying to make sure I am not in a surprise speed zone, and that the FSD has not run me up 20mph over that limit; and it sneaks up on you when it does it. Very distracting and frustrating. The engineers that designed FSD...I wish they were old enough to have drivers licenses so they could have a better understanding of what is needed.

dellfanboy 2026-02-28 03:39

Good eye!

Always_working_hardd 2026-02-28 03:40

The March 31st deadline has been known for some time now; in fact ever since it was announced that you'd no longer be able to buy FSD outright. I'm guessing about a month now.

EddyG 2026-02-28 03:43

The difference was you could order by that deadline hence everyone doing that with new cheaper cyber trucks, now you have to have it delivered by the deadline

Electronic_Gap_3450 2026-02-28 03:43

I ordered the poor man’s cybertruck that won’t be delivered until sometime in 2027 but the Tesla app won’t let me sent a message. I will need to stop by my closest store to get this documented on my account.

Always_working_hardd 2026-02-28 03:49

Okay thanks for clarity; order date vs delivery date. That means you are almost tied to whatever is in inventory. I dunno about the bullshit games they are up to. I bought 2 x 2026 Junipers late last year and while I love these cars, I am just about done with the brand.

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 03:50

Did you even read the post? The changed it today. The March 31st deadline was for **\*Orders\*** and now its for **\*Delivery\***. I bet they're doing this because they got a lot of FSD Cybertruck transfers and don't want to honor them.

Always_working_hardd 2026-02-28 03:50

2027? Is that for real?

Electronic_Gap_3450 2026-02-28 03:56

It could be a sales tactic or there is genuinely that much interest. Yesterday the estimated delivery date was September-October.

GamerTex 2026-02-28 04:00

Insanely high demand at that price

Noobuser007 2026-02-28 04:01

Bait and switch

EddyG 2026-02-28 04:02

Yeah my brother got burned trying to order a 7 seater since it won’t be delivered anywhere near time, inventory it is… very shady

Always_working_hardd 2026-02-28 04:03

"Did you even read the post"? See rule number 1, jackass.

perpetualcomplexity1 2026-02-28 04:04

You seem fun

fratzba 2026-02-28 04:06

The terms when I signed up for the FSD transfer only stated that I had to maintain ownership of the vehicle with FSD until after the new vehicle was delivered and FSD was transferred. According to my sales guy, transferring FSD just takes a few seconds at delivery. (I’m trading in my old car to tesla, their offer was only $200 less than CarMax)

Always_working_hardd 2026-02-28 04:07

And you seem really, really good at assumptions.

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 04:09

I'd write something else here but I know you wont read it and respond anyway.

Col127 2026-02-28 04:14

what is wrong with Tesla. how can they change terms like this all the time? this screws over all customers who put in an order WITH the intention of transferring their FSD. i was going to place a MYP order but there’s no way id take delivery in a month. it’s expected delivery is april through may.

Always_working_hardd 2026-02-28 04:14

Give it a shot. I'm happy to enter conversations that don't begin with insults.

Jklipsch 2026-02-28 04:22

May? Lolwtf. Com’on man.

jefedezorros 2026-02-28 04:28

Curious what you ordered that has a 4 week delivery. 7-seater?

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 04:34

6 week actually, and yes, it's the 7 seater.

cac2573 2026-02-28 04:43

Performance

JustSayTech 2026-02-28 04:44

Until they deny anyone in that boat we can't actually say that's the case, it's likely that if you ordered before the change they will honor it the way it was worded at purchase. This is a over reaction at this moment, we have at least 30 days until this needs to be put under a microscope.

NecessaryInternet603 2026-02-28 04:45

Are you stating you are unable to take delivery of a new Tesla before March 31, 2026? I suppose that it could be possible depending on where you live in the world but for most of the world that assertion seems to me to be false. Maybe you should rethink and revise your order?

jefedezorros 2026-02-28 04:46

And the delivery center says they won’t honor the transfer if it comes after?

cac2573 2026-02-28 04:52

Lol, the Tesla AI assistant is still saying order by March 31 will be honored

Beezedogg 2026-02-28 05:02

Oh wow, thanks for this post. I was literally going to order a new Model Y Performance this weekend, but it won’t get delivered to April. Now I’m not sure about putting the order in.

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 05:20

Definitely going to try, but not sure if they're going to enforce it. I am not expecting much.

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 05:21

My order is a 7 seater, they have the longest lead times.

antimagamagma 2026-02-28 06:31

max speed limit needs to be restored in all speed profiles where’s the petition?

HealthyAd3271 2026-02-28 06:55

If they change the terms, you can absolutely get your money back. They violated the contract.

OrderNo2483 2026-02-28 07:04

Yes, the transfer is instant as soon as you purchase the new vehicle. It should be waiting for you in the new vehicle.

Col127 2026-02-28 08:54

I didn’t order the MYP yet, was waiting to place it for March incentives. DIDNT expect Tesla to do this though… I guess no MYP for me then. was going to transfer FSD from my model 3.

Lower-Passage53 2026-02-28 09:46

I ordered in January for delivery in Feb. Delivery has now been pushed out to May. If they renege on the xfer, I’ll just keep my 2022 and get it upgraded (unless they renege on that as well!)

Lower-Passage53 2026-02-28 09:54

Maybe you should purchase an Optimus and have it/him/her drive you around!

PM_ME_UR_DECOLLETAGE 2026-02-28 11:59

Or extremely low volume to dissuade people from ordering that trim.

NecessaryInternet603 2026-02-28 12:42

Like I insinuated, either the FSD transfer means a lot to you or you like to complain about a problem that you created. Just because you don't like the choices doesn't make the seller a bad guy. It's called reality and we all get to make our choices. If you really want to fuss about the situation you could imagine there are others with more connections than you who can pay the price to jump the line. I'm not trying to piss you off. I'm just pointing out that possibility despite it not being probable. In fact I don't think it's possible or at least it's not supposed to be possible but some people will do anything for money. Good luck with your Tesla purchase. Personally, deciding to purchase a Tesla is still in my opinion among the best consumer choices I've ever made. I am considering the pre purchase decision as well as the actual purchases, and the ownership experiences. My first Tesla purchase back in March 2015 was fraught with lack of information, trust issues and all sorts of unknowns. I won't bother you with my other Tesla purchases but know I had to work my way through other decisions associated with them not unlike your present dilemma decision making process.

_casshern_ 2026-02-28 13:25

Yeah same here. Was eyeing the Model Y performance, which even if I ordered today won’t get here until April or May.

xavier19691 2026-02-28 14:34

Ok

Beezedogg 2026-02-28 14:55

My app is still showing March/April delivery for a Model Y performance. I was debating taking a chance and at worst I lose $250 of it doesn’t come in time. My sales advisor is saying he can fight for me to get FSD transferred if it slips to April, but I have little faith in that.

jerichar99 2026-02-28 15:00

My decision to order the Cybertruck last week was based on FSD transfer. The website clearly said “order by” and my sales person also wrote that I will be able to transfer. If this is turns out to be true when delivery approaches, I will likely end up canceling. I guess it’s a $250 (order fee) gamble.

_casshern_ 2026-02-28 16:27

I went to Tesla (Canada) today after the charges to the terms and conditions. I wanted a Model Y performance, which won’t be delivered until April or May. They were still able to honour FSD transfer, even if delivery will be after March 31st. Looks like for Performance models there’s more wiggle room. However, based on what I was told, you need to order in a store in order to get FSD transfers exceptions.

_casshern_ 2026-02-28 16:31

I went to a Tesla store today, and looks like for performance MY they’re still going to honor FSD transfer even if delivery is after March 31st. However, you do need to place the order in a store.

_casshern_ 2026-02-28 16:35

Go to your store and ask. See my other comments on here… my store was able to honour FSD transfer for MYP even if delivery will be after March.

Col127 2026-02-28 16:45

Are you in the US or Canada? If Canada, which store did you go to? I spoke to the service advisor here in Ontario (Lawrence Store) and they didn't say I could get a MYP - they said just what's on the ground (existing inventory) in order to get it before March 31. I wish I heard that same news, cuz I would have gotten the MYP. Right now I'm settling for a Premium AWD White on White. Not really what I want at all, but I want to get my FSD swapped to HW4.

_casshern_ 2026-02-28 16:54

Oakville. Did you place the order already? If not, might be worth a visit if you are not too far.

Col127 2026-02-28 17:01

Oh! What? Do you have the name of the Service Advisor you spoke to? I did place an order for an inbound one on the ground, but they could change it. Do you have that guarantee in writing???

Col127 2026-02-28 17:09

Did you place an order? Did they confirm that FSD transfer in writing so you're guaranteed?

Beezedogg 2026-02-28 17:26

Not sure how it works in Canada, but at least in the US you can’t order in the store. All you are doing in the store is they are walking you through placing the order online just the same as you are at home. My advisor said he could link to my order, but can’t do anything for me until I put the $250 down to order.

Col127 2026-02-28 18:20

Btw - the delivery advisor I spoke to on the Tesla app said Tesla Oakville is NOT making guarantees on the MYP getting the FSD transfer beyond March 31. They’re waiting on Tesla HQ. Seems you had misinformation??

_casshern_ 2026-02-28 18:21

It was our experience too (ordered in the app), but he was able to do things on his computer as we were placing the order. I’m not sure what he was doing, but a few times during the process he told us to wait before going to the next step and he did something on his laptop.

rsg1234 2026-02-28 19:22

Oh yeah, this 100% changes my plans. I guess I’ll just have to be happy with V14 lite or with the possible HW4 upgrade.

rsg1234 2026-02-28 19:23

Did you get that in writing? Because otherwise you will be screwed and have no recourse.

New_Recording_5014 2026-02-28 22:16

I mean that’s what transferring means right? If both your old and new vehicles have it it’s called duplicate?

z00mr 2026-02-28 23:14

This is just a way to push people into inventory vehicles. I bet it changes back in a couple weeks before end of quarter

TheNoLifeKing 2026-03-01 01:32

How were they able to honor it? Verbally? If they gave it to you in writing please share it, because that’s the only way you might have chance

Minute_Airline_370 2026-03-01 05:41

I’m guessing you’d be grandfathered in if you placed the order before they changed the terms. Definitely reach out to them to check

JTNY718 2026-03-01 14:48

Why does Tesla do this ? You paid for a software update they should allow you to freely swap

TimmyTalkalot 2026-03-13 03:31

My neighbor ordered a Model Y on Feb 3 and set up FSD transfer right away. Then Tesla reneged on the deal and yanked it out from him. They pushed his delivery date into April and now say tough luck. Thankfully, he still had an R2 preorder that he forgot to cancel so this is the end of the road for Tesla. He said he won't be coming back after they screwed him out of $8,000 that they promised just a couple weeks ago because they can change whatever they want any time. This is yet another self-inflicted wound for Tesla. Their loyal customers are all they have left, and they'll certainly lose more than my neighbor with this bait-and-switch. With so much competition out there, history will look back and see Tesla as a great example of how to have a breakthrough product and tech and then throw it all away.

KansasKing107 2026-03-13 04:00

I agree. Tesla operates like they’re still the only player in town and that is no longer true. Sure, Tesla is still the only way to get something like FSD but even that’s an infuriating product to use when it doesn’t have to be. I will say that I’m significantly less comfortable owning a Tesla today than when I bought it last year. I feel like I’m completely out of control regarding how my car will work in the future. What if Tesla ruins autosteer or TACC to force FSD adoption? What happens if they hide premium connectivity behind FSD? There is a whole myriad of things Tesla can do to try and squeeze another dime out of Tesla owners and the current outlook for the company is the brightest. I think if Tesla were to try pulling any BS that I would just sell the car and move on. I enjoy Tesla and EVs in general but they aren’t the panacea that this sub makes them out to be.
