Hi all. New model y owner — 2026 juniper brand new I tried fsd today and it kept failing in various places due to this error. Software says it’s up to dte Etc It was on various places, etc Sometimes I was close to the car in front of me but that’s it. Is this common? A known issue? Thanks

I thought the removed the radar? Im surprised it still exists. 100% warranty item.

Empty_Buffalo_2820 2026-02-27 05:56

Strange. I didn't think radar still existed on newer models. Perhaps the software is panicking because it thinks you should have a radar module, and don't.

erinmonday 2026-02-27 05:57

like to return the car? or bring it for service. sorry. given it’s brand new I’m very wtf

Kaluvoya 2026-02-27 05:58

It's a known issue with cabin radar part. Open a service ticket to get it replaced free of charge under warranty. If curious, enable service mode and you will see the active cabin radar alert under service.

stpaulgym 2026-02-27 05:59

The whole purpose of buying a brand new car is that the manufacturer garuntees it will work while its under warranty. Contact Tesla immediately to get it fixed. And if they can't fix it, look into your local lemon laws to replace it.

PGP9314 2026-02-27 05:59

This will be a warranty item. But like stpaulgym I thought the RADAR was removed from Teslas some years back. Perhaps even before the ultrasonic sensors were eliminated. if I remember correctly the reason cited was difficulty in resolving conflicts between the distance information from vision and RADAR.

Thank you. I work a demanding job and don’t have time to go in for repairs for a faulty part — it’s a reason I bought new — uggggh

erinmonday 2026-02-27 06:04

Brand new car. I tried fsd for first time, was working great, then kept errroring when I tried to start it. Various places lighting etc same errror I followed the errors “learn more” prompt and it brought me to the screenshot above. I assmed it would take me to the relevant error Maybe the prompt goes to the wrong place? Idfk. Service ticket in. 11 days… lol

draxwolf 2026-02-27 06:08

You could try to request mobile service. They’ll come to your house or work and replace it. Can do that for most things that don’t require them to lift the car up.

erinmonday 2026-02-27 06:12

Cool. I put the ticket in and the service center is a mile away I kind of bitched that it’s new and I can’t gallavant about Summon failed too repeatedly but I assumed it was just me being an idiot newb:) 11 day wait to see them I guess — on a 30 day FSD free trial :(

RezzaBuh 2026-02-27 06:16

It has a cabin radar.

I see that the screen has two different errors - one for radar and a second for front camera visibility. There’s no way the first error is valid as Model Y has not had front radar installed since 2022. Juniper does have cabin radar but it would use different terminology. Front camera visibility is more likely and should be temporary. There’s warning is just the car being transparent. Can be caused by sun glare or something on your windscreen like snow or ice, or even condensation. In this case the car will show a detailed warning with an image of the obstruction. Pillar cameras will show this warning too when you drive anywhere that’s pitch black or somewhere with flat coloured walls like inside a garage or parking garage. Having said that, the fact it’s stopping TACC and Autosteer from working properly means it’s a bit more serious. In the Tesla app submit a Service request and note the warnings. Service can remotely diagnose and see the warnings. Edit: I forgot the new Model Y has a front bumper camera.

Unable-Acanthaceae-9 2026-02-27 08:37

If you look at the screen shot, Tesla specifically says radar in the front bumper.

Unable-Acanthaceae-9 2026-02-27 08:38

In the photo, it says “radar located in the front bumper area.”

MisterBumpingston 2026-02-27 09:32

Ask for a loaner.

TopUniversity3469 2026-02-27 10:26

The error message reads that there's a radar in the front bumper

Draygoon2818 2026-02-27 11:17

Which error message was it that you had, w221 or w222? I'm leaning towards the w222 as the '26 MY does not have radar on the front end of the car. Wouldn't really make sense for there to be an error for something that wasn't there in the first place, but stranger things have happened. Just schedule an appointment with service so they can fix it.

AJHenderson 2026-02-27 12:13

New cars often have more issues than lightly used for future reference. It's not uncommon to have a couple service visits with a new car in general to work out any minor problems that slipped past QA.

AJHenderson 2026-02-27 12:14

It could be they are getting close to bringing radar back and misconfigured his to expect it without installing it.

Vtecman 2026-02-27 12:52

Weird. I thought Tesla was “camera only” and no radar at all. This could also explain why hw4 fsd is close to flawless…

Mysterious-Dark-11 2026-02-27 12:59

Happened to me. I got a loaner vehicle. They fixed it same day.

MangoAtrocity 2026-02-27 13:06

I have *never* been approved for mobile service.

epradox 2026-02-27 13:16

Try restarting the mcu by holding down both steering wheel scroll wheels til the screen turns black

wtfredditacct 2026-02-27 13:19

You didn't expect him to actually read all that, did you?

erinmonday 2026-02-27 13:32

Thank you. Did you have to bring it to them or vice versa?

Mysterious-Dark-11 2026-02-27 13:35

I brought the car to service center

Fire69 2026-02-27 14:10

You're just looking at the manual with all the available errors (also for older models probably). 2026 has no radar in the bumper. Go in to service mode and look at the actual errors listed there.

Tell them you’re excited about FSD and ask if they can grant you more time to experience it. (They will, as they want to sell you on it.) I’ve had many new cars, some have niggles in the beginning. Not to worry. It’s inconvenient, but usually it works out and you forget about it.

Wants-NotNeeds 2026-02-27 16:17

Interesting supposition.

echo46mike3 2026-02-27 17:03

Radar is inside where the read light is. If that’s blocked you’ll get all sorts of random errors. It’s an occupancy detection radar.

erinmonday 2026-02-27 17:40

It’s happening in multi locations at multiple lightings :/

erinmonday 2026-02-27 17:56

Buncha junk in there in service mode . Threw it on Imgur https://imgur.com/a/OhzNFBH

erinmonday 2026-02-27 17:57

Does anyone have protip on how to order mobile service? Didn’t give me the option on the app. :/

erinmonday 2026-02-27 20:54

Protips welcome on how to do this lol

erinmonday 2026-02-27 20:57

Yall I’ve owned a tesla for a week. I ran the service mode thing and here’s the output https://imgur.com/a/OhzNFBH

MisterBumpingston 2026-02-27 21:13

Go to Controls > Service > Camera Preview. Do you see anything odd with any of the front cameras including the front bumper camera?

trifster 2026-02-28 01:28

Ask in message conversation. Some repairs cannot be done mobile.

trifster 2026-02-28 01:35

Yours is the first issue I’ve seen of this. As many have said I don’t think Tesla added back external radar. The error message may have been reused for older teslas that had radar. I suspect it’s a different sensor issue necessary for TAAC/FSD. Anything from interior occupancy radar, cameras, etc. to find a better error message in service mode, enter service mode soonest after you have the error using FSD. My ‘21 model 3 side marker camera died first week. Was fine after quick repairs. I’ve had no issue with my ‘24 Model Y. If service center is close, I’d get a service request submitted soonest then in messages communicate that car was just delivered new and ask for priority appt or mobile. Good luck.

erinmonday 2026-02-28 01:45

Thanks. The audio keeps erroring out when I give voice commands too ;/ every time Summon totally unresponsive Le Sigh

trifster 2026-02-28 01:57

Sounds like something is taking down the CANbus network. Car components talk to each other and computers via their own wired network. I accidentally caused this using a USB hub to have two usb drives connected (one for dashcam and one for MP3s). The hub was preventing my GPS antennas from talking to the computer. My car would think it’s in the middle of a field and not on the road. As soon as the hub was removed, worked perfectly.

colokan2224 2026-02-28 10:30

Were you stopped at a traffic light when you tried to turn it on?

erinmonday 2026-02-28 17:47

Multiple places

erinmonday 2026-02-28 17:47

This seemed to work. Voice command still erroring and summon still not working

epradox 2026-02-28 18:34

Are you trying to hold it down? Single click will bring up voice command, holding it down will bring up grok which you may have to set up. Summon also has to be turned on within the autopilot settings if it hasn’t already.

erinmonday 2026-03-03 04:19

Yeah not holding it down. It’s just erroring 75% of the time. Ill tell it to play Metallica, it’ll error, and then still play

epradox 2026-03-03 04:23

Does it do the same for adjusting climate control or like seat heating? Are you subscribed to premium connectivity or using mobile hotspot?
