I had one…PDR for $200. It was paid by the person who opened their door in mine as it was caught in Sentry.

I would say call around. There are probably some PDR guys out there with some tricks up their sleeves.
Not sure if I can post the link, but here's a video of a guy using PDR on almost the same ding:

Agree with this. Had a ding that bugged me that no PDR would touch. Called Tesla Service center and ask who they recommend. They gave me there go to guy. 90 minute drive one way and $400 later it looked like new. Pain in the ass but the right PDR who works regularly on Tesla will get this out.

I have a very similar ding and got a quote of $680 for a full door repair and paint to blend the paint so it looks brand new. A dent repair guy quoted me $300 just to pull the dent. I'd have to touch up the paint. It was high because apparently they have to remove the lock mechanism on Teslas in order to reach the back of the dent.

What about paint chip? The PDR guy I talked to said $300 but he didn't do touch up. Two body shops told me to do the touch up myself because all they could do is a full door paint

The location was the Tesla dealership 😂, Northern VA.

That’s what the PDR guy told me the body shop would do, which is what adds to the cost. And he said a lot of times they also paint the rear door to “match” with the front door but said most times that’s just to add extra cost 🤷

I had the same but lucky I got video and photos and license plate of the person who ding my car and I was sitting in the parking lot in the car when it happened. Insurance and certified Tesla repair shop $1800 Canadian to fix that same dent. No clear coat or paint cracked. Just the dent.

I had a dent on the lower body line (and have stealth PPF) and 3 PDR guys all quoted me between $750-$1000 for the same reason - “Tesla dents are difficult to repair because the doors are aluminum and there’s no easy way to access the dents.” All 3 said they’d have to remove the door to do it.
I found a lady who did it for under $400 who did it in 90 minutes at my house and made it look new.
Keep calling around.

Had a dent from the Valet on the same line on my car and a pdf guy came out and did it for like 100$. This was in Los Angeles- you could look on task rabbit and just make sure they are familiar with working on teslas. That’s what I did at least 🤷♂️

Thanks for sharing this. I have two similar ones that are bugging me on my door. I think the wife or kids did it because I check the alerts except for at home lol

Find you a good major dealership and ask them when their PDR comes by and then check out their work. Most of those guys come by every week or two.

That’s definitely disappointing- when they won’t fess up to it. 😂

Just keep asking PDR people, preferably someone who has a gallery of work on their website that shows work on Teslas.

Let’s say you got the license plate number from the sentry mode. How did you get around getting them to pay (or their insurance)?

So I was lucky. I work in an office building that’s about three floors and maybe like 15 individual businesses; mostly medical. When the incident happened and I saw the video I called the police to file a report…honestly they were pretty unhelpful.
However, I talked to my landlord and he provided me with the video of them pulling in (license plates achieved) and pics of their faces. Then I figured out that they were seeing the counselors upstairs as they went to the third floor, so I went and asked them who they were. They could not help bc of HIPA rules. I then asked if they’d be coming back and the person upfront just kind of looked with a look telling me that they would be back.
So I waited and watched the parking lot for a few weeks hoping to see their car. Then four weeks to the day later, they pulled in right in front of me. I pulled in right next to them and confronted them about the dent and showed the video. I then explained I had spoke with my insurance company and they were tracking them as well; they weren’t, but that white lie worked and they agreed to pay for it.
I guess you could say my persistence paid off!

That was lucky. I guess in any other situation it would be just an uninsured motorist claim.

Wanted to comment because I went through this last year and I’m a tad proud of the result. Got dinged in a parking lot, had it on video, but DIDN’T have the license plate. It was a local indoor soccer complex, and I went full on Sherlock. I got the name of the team based on the kids jersey (he swung the door and dinged it), then specific things on their car, like the local park pass sticker on the windshield and the car rims. I then looked at the schedule to find when they played next, thankfully the complex is 6 minutes from my house. I made 3 attempts to go when the team was scheduled, found the vehicle and took multiple pics that clearly identified this car as the perp.
Then I called my insurance (Tesla at the time) and they were able to give me the name and insurance company of the driver. I then called them, filed a claim and sent all videos and pics. 3 short weeks later I had a check for $800 to fix the door ding.
Some may say I went overboard, and to them I would say they’re probably right.

Update: Went this route after reading your comment. Sure enough, my local Tesla recommended me to a PDR guy they use frequently and he was the only one who knew right away he can do it. Had to take the inside of the door off. The other PDR guys didn’t even suggest that. $425, I’m happy, considering my deductible is $500 to take it to a body shop.
