Premium Model Y AWD vs RWD for Towing - Need Advise

Looking to buy a new premium Model Y sometime before end of Q1. I plan to use it for towing every now and then. I can’t decide between AWD and RWD. Does anyone have any real world experience towing with either drive train type?

RWD is fine. Towing is just going to put more weight on the rear axle. It’ll put a bit more wear on the rear tires with RWD, so make sure to rotate your tires.

Do you have a RWD and use it for towing? Looking to hear some real world experience.

Sorry. Mine is AWD because that’s all they were selling at the time. Lots of people tow with RWD vehicles. Most pickup trucks are RWD, and probably have better traction for the drive wheels when towing than when they’re not. Unless you have a weight distribution hitch (and I don’t think they’re a good idea with the Model Y), the additional tongue weight decreases the downforce and therefore traction on the front wheels. What’re you towing? If you’re launching a boat on a wet, slippery boat launch, get AWD. If you’re towing a camping trailer off pavement, get AWD. Otherwise, I’d probably get RWD.

I’m towing small U-Haul trailers to move plants. Sounds like RWD will work just fine
