Design Flaw - OEM All-Weather Model Y Juniper Premium Seatback Liner

shanewazhere | 2026-02-25 04:57 | 33 views

Tell me if I’m wrong or crazy, but is this a design flaw? It seems like it to me. 2026 Model Y Premium, OEM All-Weather Seatback liner middle seat is missing the cut out notch for the latch to drop just the middle seat. If you want to drop it, it’ll rip off the liner… All aftermarket ones have the cut out for the latch. It’s weird, because the Model Y standard mats HAVE the cut out for the latch, that doesn’t make sense to me.

Yeah that ain't right. Maybe they can just replace that one panel for you.

I emailed and called about it. Seems like this needs to be a design change entirely.

I ordered these a couple of weeks ago and noticed the same issue. Hopefully they’ll fix it

I assumed the intended use case for these things was when you lowered the rear seats and wanted a single large cargo space. Didn’t even occur to me to try the pictured configuration, i’ve just had the three small panels sitting in my lower trunk. Duh!

Return it.

Wow….

Just cut the slit into it

I never noticed you can just drop the middle seat with a latch. I don’t have the cut out but I probably should look now.

Maybe they were designing for the latch to swivel down and be flush when disconnected from the middle?  And just never did it. Edit: I'm curious to see whether this is an intentional change for the 7-seater, since a lot of owners are known to fold that middle part down as a pass-through to the third row. Maybe they've got it now where the latch folds down, or there's a different mechanism to disconnect that middle part? If it's on the 7-seater, it might carry through to 5-seaters going forward.

classic QA huh?

I’ve actually considered this, but hate to cut a brand new mat that was designed improperly.

shanewazhere 2026-02-25 20:41

lol that’s the easy way out.

Hoping my emails and maybe this Reddit thread eventually reaches the floor mat engineers. 😅

Did you figure this out? I just ordered a new MY Premium and looking at these mats too. I see the differences in the cutouts for the mats for the MY standard and the MY Premium.

shanewazhere 2026-02-26 05:22

Not yet, it's only been 24 hours since I reached out. I'll update this thread when they respond to me.
