How do you use the Tesla in-car browser? 🚗

ViewIn_Net | 2026-02-25 03:22 | 21 views

Do you guys actually use the Tesla browser? Curious how many people here use it regularly vs never touch it. What do you even use it for?

My son plays a homebrew pokemon RPG game on it while I drive.

aim4squirrels 2026-02-25 03:28

Teslanav.com

sevargmas 2026-02-25 03:29

It’s garbage. I never use it, but I would like to. Want to check the weather Doppler? Go to some Doppler website annnnnnd the browser crashed. Bored at a charger and look up Google Earth annnnnnd the browser crashed.

ViewIn_Net 2026-02-25 03:34

That’s interesting, I’ve never thought about using Google Earth on Tesla browser:) Doppler weather what is this? Website?

StinkyChupacabra 2026-02-25 03:38

This. Pretty much the only use.

AltruisticPapaya1415 2026-02-25 03:38

Games not useable while car is in drive

SP3NGL3R 2026-02-25 03:39

I used to use it for Android Auto, but I've since just accepted the 2005 Bluetooth controls. Maybe I need to try again. Harrumph, it looks like my app isn't there anymore. I think it was TeslaAA.

TillStar17 2026-02-25 03:40

You can see live radar on the navigation screen

medhat20005 2026-02-25 03:43

I almost always watch TV (YouTube TV) when I'm charging.

ViewIn_Net 2026-02-25 03:43

What’s purpose to see that on Tesla Browser? Use case?

pigeon30 2026-02-25 03:45

StreamEast works flawlessly on it. Which is impressive because that site is usually flooded with ads/popups/redirects if I try to load it on my phone or laptop.

Solid-Paramedic-4281 2026-02-25 03:47

You can’t play the arcade games while in drive, and one time he forgot his phone on the way to a doctor’s appointment so he tried it out and it worked! There’s some retro games you can play too but it’s kinda wonky.

sevargmas 2026-02-25 03:47

Technically yes, but it’s only an algorithm predicting what the weather will look like in the future. And there is no ability to see the past hour or so of weather or an actual legitimate radar image of the weather. There are lots of benefits to being able to look at the radar on something like the weather channel website.

sevargmas 2026-02-25 03:47

Doppler = weather radar

ViewIn_Net 2026-02-25 03:50

I’m curious what kids these days are actually into when it comes to games. Probably not the old arcade classics we grew up with, right? 😄

brewton 2026-02-25 03:59

Same, on weekends I watch live sports if I’m waiting on kids, etc.

Crazyfruitbat 2026-02-25 04:07

Preordering McDonalds before I get there 😂

gmatocha 2026-02-25 04:08

Windy

Chiryou 2026-02-25 04:11

I play torn on it

SecludedExtrovert 2026-02-25 04:19

I used to use it to log into my SoundCloud acct and play music. As long as you started it before driving off, it would work. Then, I got an update and now the browser just crashes when I try.

ViewIn_Net 2026-02-25 04:20

Interesting 🤔 probably on mobile app it’s working faster?

tthrivi 2026-02-25 04:22

What is the advantage of this?

Beginning_Lifeguard7 2026-02-25 04:26

If I could use a keyboard and a mouse it might be interesting, naw. I’ve tried doing some searches, but it’s slow and laggy so I just use my phone.

Sfkn123 2026-02-25 04:28

Actually, my son plays a lot of snes final fantasy games while I'm driving. https://www.retrogames.cc/snes-games The progress saves, too. There are a old school arcade games in there too but I haven't tried it myself. Works great with controllers.

RedElmo65 2026-02-25 04:32

No. Never used it. Why? Slow as molasses.

AnonymousShmuck 2026-02-25 04:33

Do you know you can use the stock YouTube app to access YTTV? You press the crooked diamond in a circle in the upper left corner, next to the different filter options, and scroll down till you see YouTube TV. ***Fun fact, the icon I am referring to is called the explorer icon and is a simplified compass apparently

medhat20005 2026-02-25 04:34

Wow! Thanks, I'll try that next time.

Certain_Bandicoot_14 2026-02-25 04:36

Since they started to allow audio to play while driving, I will use it at times to listen to YouTube podcasts.

ViewIn_Net 2026-02-25 04:38

What for?

Curtnorth 2026-02-25 04:51

Have never used it, but I rarely supercharge or find myself sitting in my car very long unless I'm driving it.

_twentytwo_22 2026-02-25 04:52

Before the weather function was added, I had my Windy app shortcutted for easy reference. Didn't use it all that much but useful when I needed it. Still do at times as the native one is lacking. Also my local butcher has weekly specials that I'll sometimes remember to check only when I'm driving. Very convenient.

ViewIn_Net 2026-02-25 04:53

Pop corn ?

LoneStarGut 2026-02-25 05:05

I use it to look up and book hotels, send facebook messages, and look up news and shopping. My wife uses it to play audio books from our city's library website.

kkobzz 2026-02-25 05:14

i… didn’t even know there was a browser. 🤣

fidju 2026-02-25 05:14

Why not use the YouTube music app?

mjreagle 2026-02-25 05:16

https://teslaandroid.com/

ViewIn_Net 2026-02-25 05:17

lol 😂

mah658 2026-02-25 05:20

I can check my outlook email, gmail, use microsoft teams, check opensnow, or anything else I would use a computer for.

angcritic 2026-02-25 05:36

Audiophile.fm FLAC streams

Original-Material301 2026-02-25 05:38

How's the performance?

Crazyfruitbat 2026-02-25 06:06

Yeah for sure. But it’s useful to sit in the car and basically have the kids look at what they want as we are on the way

epradox 2026-02-25 06:35

This is 100% what I use it for and probably why I wouldn’t want another non tesla car. Having teams, outlook and what’s app on the browser was such a game changer to the productivity of my commutes. Firing off emails via tesla keyboards pretty decent voice to text while on FSD was so damn futuristic to me 4 years ago when I had my first amd Tesla and it still is today.

Justman1020 2026-02-25 06:43

I use it for SoundCloud.

Ron7711 2026-02-25 06:53

I am using a few bookmarks. mostly checking my homeassistant server Sometimes simply google something or when charging using two media portals of regional tv stations (VOD or live Tv). also would love to have a amzn prime app

Nothing-2809 2026-02-25 07:15

Radio Garden was really fun to use on the browser.

Longjumping_Rule383 2026-02-25 07:24

Plex streaming on my lunch break.

Own-Entertainment237 2026-02-25 08:03

Searches, cos the Tesla browser is slow and laggy.

Altruistic-Ad-857 2026-02-25 08:39

I use it to see electricity prices before i come home & plugin

mjreagle 2026-02-25 09:36

It's great for me at least - I'm on MCU3 Ryzen though. If you have an MCU2 Intel -- it's likely better to buy the pre-built/configured hardware w/ great antennas rather than using your own Raspberry Pi. I've done both at different times. The developer is really dedicated to making it great and the project really has come a long way over the years. You can look at r/teslaandroid for more info too.

BikebutnotBeast 2026-02-25 09:37

Voice command (while driving) : "Search Google for ________." This looks up something through the browser, tickets, restaurants, Amazon, questions that Grok can't do yet, weather in specific areas/dates.

TS1BK 2026-02-25 09:58

I use it to stream DIRECTV audio while driving, mostly to hear local news. Also to open testube.app.

Original-Material301 2026-02-25 10:01

Nice I have a spare pi4 that looks like it might have another life

usdaprime 2026-02-25 10:04

Check TSLA stock

QlusiveNL 2026-02-25 10:24

What is youtube tv?

DearConsequence 2026-02-25 10:39

My Outlook via 365 works great but Teams always crashes the browser. Oh snap! Not you?

itsthewolfe 2026-02-25 10:44

Everything is computer.

ObeseSnake 2026-02-25 10:49

Plex

Schnitzhole 2026-02-25 11:02

Good idea. I need this for my wife. Takes me like 2 seconds to decide and every time it’s an embarrassing few minutes as she can’t make up her mind and we are sitting there holding up traffic. It’s not like the menu usually changes anyways.

aim4squirrels 2026-02-25 11:05

Avoid the roadside disco with the police.

moblon 2026-02-25 11:09

Wow! I always run waze on my phone (which I presume has the bigger network effect). How do you find it compares in terms of identifying police? Is it only based on other people using this specific site?

scientist99 2026-02-25 11:10

Live television service offered from YouTube. It's like $85 a month or something.

Schnitzhole 2026-02-25 11:12

Tempting. How do you get internet to it though?

aim4squirrels 2026-02-25 11:20

For that it's better.  You can increase the alert distance to up to 2 miles vs. the hardcoded .5 miles in the phone app. Currently, routing is broken, but the guy that wrote it is working on a fix to get it back up and running. I haven't found a way to report things in it either, so it is a bummer for not being able to contribute back, but the dev just launched it in Jan, so I'll give it time to turn into something more.   It works a lot better then the CarLinKit I bought.  That thing is super fiddly to get it to connect and stay connected.

moblon 2026-02-25 11:35

Thanks for all the detail! Can't wait to try it.

epradox 2026-02-25 12:16

Yeah I noticed that happens with me if I join a channel where people are sending gifs

DearConsequence 2026-02-25 12:17

You can use channels for something else???? ;). Thanks!

Mnm0602 2026-02-25 12:49

Yes but then you can’t play it while driving (for passengers of course).

Jared_Sparks 2026-02-25 12:54

Can you just listen to it while driving?

Technical_Beyond111 2026-02-25 12:57

Never messed with it. Seems easier to just use my phone.

Slayerz00m 2026-02-25 13:06

Play YouTube videos in audio mode while I am driving. Works for news etc, and music, YouTube has almost everything

EvRyMom 2026-02-25 13:16

I use it to watch Phillies games while I'm waiting in the parking lot for my son to be done his own baseball practice.

lmamakos 2026-02-25 13:19

Occasionally use it with Home Assistant.

Certain_Bandicoot_14 2026-02-25 13:19

I don’t have YT premium

Caranoke 2026-02-25 13:43

Used a few times.

Arthvpatel 2026-02-25 14:01

I use it for windy app to check wind direction / speed

Robocup1 2026-02-25 14:20

YouTube, Netflix etc whenever I go camping.

PunkAintDead 2026-02-25 14:23

What's the new stream east site ? I didn't realize they were back up after having shut down recently

tony0614 2026-02-25 14:56

I have a smart home panel that I use to control all my devices. I use it on the browser to do things like turn off alarm, adjust thermostat or turn off a light.

Clear_Quit8181 2026-02-25 15:00

Watch mlb tv through the browser

NoKidCouple76 2026-02-25 15:18

Nice try fbi

sevargmas 2026-02-25 15:46

Because I want to see the weather obviously.

sevargmas 2026-02-25 15:48

It looks like Waze, but it doesn’t have the navigation. It just uses the Waze API to show the accidents, police, etc.

Joey6543210 2026-02-25 15:48

Frankly this is probably the most underrated feature of the Tesla browser. Often times when I'm driving and someone in the podcast started describing a scenery or a painting or an object, if I have trouble imagining it I just say it out loud and then check the images results. If it's something that needs a long explanation, that's what Grok is there for.

sevargmas 2026-02-25 15:49

Seems like using your phone for this would be much much easier.

MhVRNewbie 2026-02-25 15:54

Oh sht, that's the most expensive TV service I've seen by a margin.

scientist99 2026-02-25 15:56

Compared to traditional cable TV its not as expensive. But the real value is you can have 5 users at once, so if you have family or friends to share it with it becomes cost effective.

6packvern 2026-02-25 16:01

I've got a streaming app bookmarked for the occasional live TV while waiting in the car, but the main use is for SiriusXM. If you already have a subscription for another vehicle and it comes with their streaming option you can listen in the Tesla browser without issue. Avoid paying a fee for another car and using the built in app.

ViewIn_Net 2026-02-25 16:02

Why do you need this information when driving Tesla?

Arthvpatel 2026-02-25 16:04

On a road trip in North America we have drastic weather changes, if you are in the prairies wind can change where you have 50-60km/h headwinds so at charging and you see that wind, I make sure to charge a bit extra just in case on top of what the car suggests as charger scarcity is high in those areas

ViewIn_Net 2026-02-25 16:25

Thanks for the comprehensive explanation!

joelrwilliams1 2026-02-25 16:44

Watching YouTube videos about Tesla

AnonymousShmuck 2026-02-25 16:46

Not through the native app. I was not aware you could use the browser like that while driving so I learned something new too!

mrdirectnl 2026-02-25 16:54

You can’t. Video stops. Sound keep going.

Competitive_Yak_6247 2026-02-25 17:33

Never used it

SquidPadThai 2026-02-25 17:55

I use teslatube.dk to watch things while charging

kuped 2026-02-25 18:44

I use three sites regularly: 1. Foreflight: Flight planning and filing software to check weather, NOTAMS, etc. on my way to the airport. 2. Windy Weather: To display real-time thunderstorm activity on a map (it tracks the Tesla's GPS for location). 3. Teslanav: a Waze-like web site with police, traffic, and road hazards depicted on a GPS tracking map.

johnyeros 2026-02-25 19:00

One you quit stupid American sport where u watch 12 min of actual football game on a 3+ hours broadcast designed to shove ads down your throat your entertainment options become way cheaper.

llTHEMANll 2026-02-25 20:05

I could never get Plex to work. Even locally when connected to my home WiFi. I did the basic troubleshooting, but figured it was just a limitation of the browser. Any tips?

Longjumping_Rule383 2026-02-25 20:20

It's a Plex/router config thing, gotta get it set up for external access. I'm also on an AMD 2023 Model 3, dunno if hardware configuration matters for browser capabilities.

Ok_Relative_1850 2026-02-25 20:26

So.it just responds something with voice but nothing changes on the screen right?

BikebutnotBeast 2026-02-25 22:31

Ok now there's Grok, which will respond via voice, and the traditional voice command which I'm describing which will not respond via voice and ONLY pull up the browser page with this request googled.

Ok_Relative_1850 2026-02-25 23:06

I have the Intel chip. Im wondering if we're ever gonna get it😒

magoo266 2026-02-26 00:25

My 11yo son doesn't have a phone, so he uses it a lot while driving to look stuff up. My 2021 MY was painfully slow on the Intel Atom. But my new Juniper with AMD Ryzen is actually quite usable.

j_d_q 2026-02-26 00:29

Interesting. I have been using the back screen (via the front screen) to pull up the YouTube video and it keeps audio. Like the kids are in the back watching. The browser will keep audio playing and let you go back to nav?

liynus 2026-02-26 01:00

Plex. Watching live tv is great.

Brief-Cod2037 2026-02-26 01:54

Using it right now for playing Xbox.

VirtualPercentage737 2026-02-26 02:27

Rarely. If it would remember passwords it would be super useful.

mjreagle 2026-02-26 03:24

If you use it with Android Auto, or Apple CarPlay internet is not really needed as it pulls/casts from your phone automatically. That’s how I started. I now personally have a spare phone line so just put a SIM card in a USB cell modem that’s plugged in. There is also the option to tether to your phone over usb OR use the RJ45 jack on the Pi, perhaps with a more proper cellular modem.

mailman-zero 2026-02-26 08:29

I use it to access Home Assistant to open and close the garage door. I wish I could add a link to a URL on the app bar so I could use a webhook to open and close the garage door from anywhere.

llTHEMANll 2026-02-26 14:27

Interesting. I have a HW4 Ryzen MY and I’ve never been able to get remote or local streaming to work.

you-already-kn0w 2026-02-26 14:36

Look at the restaurants reviews near superchargers when driving

whatever_suits_me 2026-02-26 15:14

Never use it

SimilarComfortable69 2026-02-26 15:44

If you have grok, you can speak your request to Grok and get a lot of things that way if you want. I don't use the car browser.

teepee107 2026-02-28 04:09

It’s probably the only app I’ve never used in the car. I use the native YouTube app for YouTube and the Netflix app

Lollerscooter 2026-02-28 10:18

Only use it to access teslatube so I can use other streaming services. But it is pretty rare I watch something in the car.
