How do you use the Tesla in-car browser? 🚗
Do you guys actually use the Tesla browser? Curious how many people here use it regularly vs never touch it. What do you even use it for?

My son plays a homebrew pokemon RPG game on it while I drive.
Teslanav.com
It’s garbage. I never use it, but I would like to. Want to check the weather Doppler? Go to some Doppler website annnnnnd the browser crashed. Bored at a charger and look up Google Earth annnnnnd the browser crashed.
That’s interesting, I’ve never thought about using Google Earth on Tesla browser:) Doppler weather what is this? Website?
[deleted]
This. Pretty much the only use.
Games not useable while car is in drive
I used to use it for Android Auto, but I've since just accepted the 2005 Bluetooth controls. Maybe I need to try again. Harrumph, it looks like my app isn't there anymore. I think it was TeslaAA.
You can see live radar on the navigation screen
I almost always watch TV (YouTube TV) when I'm charging.
What’s purpose to see that on Tesla Browser? Use case?
StreamEast works flawlessly on it. Which is impressive because that site is usually flooded with ads/popups/redirects if I try to load it on my phone or laptop.
You can’t play the arcade games while in drive, and one time he forgot his phone on the way to a doctor’s appointment so he tried it out and it worked! There’s some retro games you can play too but it’s kinda wonky.
Technically yes, but it’s only an algorithm predicting what the weather will look like in the future. And there is no ability to see the past hour or so of weather or an actual legitimate radar image of the weather. There are lots of benefits to being able to look at the radar on something like the weather channel website.
Doppler = weather radar
I’m curious what kids these days are actually into when it comes to games. Probably not the old arcade classics we grew up with, right? 😄
Same, on weekends I watch live sports if I’m waiting on kids, etc.
Preordering McDonalds before I get there 😂
Windy
I play torn on it
I used to use it to log into my SoundCloud acct and play music. As long as you started it before driving off, it would work. Then, I got an update and now the browser just crashes when I try.
Interesting 🤔 probably on mobile app it’s working faster?
What is the advantage of this?
If I could use a keyboard and a mouse it might be interesting, naw. I’ve tried doing some searches, but it’s slow and laggy so I just use my phone.
Actually, my son plays a lot of snes final fantasy games while I'm driving. https://www.retrogames.cc/snes-games The progress saves, too. There are a old school arcade games in there too but I haven't tried it myself. Works great with controllers.
No. Never used it. Why? Slow as molasses.
Do you know you can use the stock YouTube app to access YTTV? You press the crooked diamond in a circle in the upper left corner, next to the different filter options, and scroll down till you see YouTube TV. ***Fun fact, the icon I am referring to is called the explorer icon and is a simplified compass apparently
Wow! Thanks, I'll try that next time.
Since they started to allow audio to play while driving, I will use it at times to listen to YouTube podcasts.
What for?
[deleted]
Have never used it, but I rarely supercharge or find myself sitting in my car very long unless I'm driving it.
Before the weather function was added, I had my Windy app shortcutted for easy reference. Didn't use it all that much but useful when I needed it. Still do at times as the native one is lacking. Also my local butcher has weekly specials that I'll sometimes remember to check only when I'm driving. Very convenient.
Pop corn ?
I use it to look up and book hotels, send facebook messages, and look up news and shopping. My wife uses it to play audio books from our city's library website.
i… didn’t even know there was a browser. 🤣
Why not use the YouTube music app?
https://teslaandroid.com/
lol 😂
I can check my outlook email, gmail, use microsoft teams, check opensnow, or anything else I would use a computer for.
Audiophile.fm FLAC streams
How's the performance?
Yeah for sure. But it’s useful to sit in the car and basically have the kids look at what they want as we are on the way
This is 100% what I use it for and probably why I wouldn’t want another non tesla car. Having teams, outlook and what’s app on the browser was such a game changer to the productivity of my commutes. Firing off emails via tesla keyboards pretty decent voice to text while on FSD was so damn futuristic to me 4 years ago when I had my first amd Tesla and it still is today.
I use it for SoundCloud.
I am using a few bookmarks. mostly checking my homeassistant server Sometimes simply google something or when charging using two media portals of regional tv stations (VOD or live Tv). also would love to have a amzn prime app
Radio Garden was really fun to use on the browser.
Plex streaming on my lunch break.
Steering/supervising my Home from Home Assistant.
NFL GamePass
Searches, cos the Tesla browser is slow and laggy.
I use it to see electricity prices before i come home & plugin
It's great for me at least - I'm on MCU3 Ryzen though. If you have an MCU2 Intel -- it's likely better to buy the pre-built/configured hardware w/ great antennas rather than using your own Raspberry Pi. I've done both at different times. The developer is really dedicated to making it great and the project really has come a long way over the years. You can look at r/teslaandroid for more info too.
Voice command (while driving) : "Search Google for ________." This looks up something through the browser, tickets, restaurants, Amazon, questions that Grok can't do yet, weather in specific areas/dates.
I use it to stream DIRECTV audio while driving, mostly to hear local news. Also to open testube.app.
Nice I have a spare pi4 that looks like it might have another life
Check TSLA stock
What is youtube tv?
My Outlook via 365 works great but Teams always crashes the browser. Oh snap! Not you?
Everything is computer.
Plex
Good idea. I need this for my wife. Takes me like 2 seconds to decide and every time it’s an embarrassing few minutes as she can’t make up her mind and we are sitting there holding up traffic. It’s not like the menu usually changes anyways.
Avoid the roadside disco with the police.
Wow! I always run waze on my phone (which I presume has the bigger network effect). How do you find it compares in terms of identifying police? Is it only based on other people using this specific site?
Live television service offered from YouTube. It's like $85 a month or something.
Tempting. How do you get internet to it though?
For that it's better. You can increase the alert distance to up to 2 miles vs. the hardcoded .5 miles in the phone app. Currently, routing is broken, but the guy that wrote it is working on a fix to get it back up and running. I haven't found a way to report things in it either, so it is a bummer for not being able to contribute back, but the dev just launched it in Jan, so I'll give it time to turn into something more. It works a lot better then the CarLinKit I bought. That thing is super fiddly to get it to connect and stay connected.
Thanks for all the detail! Can't wait to try it.
Yeah I noticed that happens with me if I join a channel where people are sending gifs
You can use channels for something else???? ;). Thanks!
Yes but then you can’t play it while driving (for passengers of course).
Can you just listen to it while driving?
Never messed with it. Seems easier to just use my phone.
Play YouTube videos in audio mode while I am driving. Works for news etc, and music, YouTube has almost everything
I use it to watch Phillies games while I'm waiting in the parking lot for my son to be done his own baseball practice.
Occasionally use it with Home Assistant.
I don’t have YT premium
Used a few times.
I use it for windy app to check wind direction / speed
YouTube, Netflix etc whenever I go camping.
What's the new stream east site ? I didn't realize they were back up after having shut down recently
I have a smart home panel that I use to control all my devices. I use it on the browser to do things like turn off alarm, adjust thermostat or turn off a light.
Watch mlb tv through the browser
Nice try fbi
Because I want to see the weather obviously.
It looks like Waze, but it doesn’t have the navigation. It just uses the Waze API to show the accidents, police, etc.
Frankly this is probably the most underrated feature of the Tesla browser. Often times when I'm driving and someone in the podcast started describing a scenery or a painting or an object, if I have trouble imagining it I just say it out loud and then check the images results. If it's something that needs a long explanation, that's what Grok is there for.
Seems like using your phone for this would be much much easier.
Oh sht, that's the most expensive TV service I've seen by a margin.
Compared to traditional cable TV its not as expensive. But the real value is you can have 5 users at once, so if you have family or friends to share it with it becomes cost effective.
I've got a streaming app bookmarked for the occasional live TV while waiting in the car, but the main use is for SiriusXM. If you already have a subscription for another vehicle and it comes with their streaming option you can listen in the Tesla browser without issue. Avoid paying a fee for another car and using the built in app.
Why do you need this information when driving Tesla?
On a road trip in North America we have drastic weather changes, if you are in the prairies wind can change where you have 50-60km/h headwinds so at charging and you see that wind, I make sure to charge a bit extra just in case on top of what the car suggests as charger scarcity is high in those areas
Thanks for the comprehensive explanation!
Watching YouTube videos about Tesla
Not through the native app. I was not aware you could use the browser like that while driving so I learned something new too!
You can’t. Video stops. Sound keep going.
Never used it
I use teslatube.dk to watch things while charging
I use three sites regularly: 1. Foreflight: Flight planning and filing software to check weather, NOTAMS, etc. on my way to the airport. 2. Windy Weather: To display real-time thunderstorm activity on a map (it tracks the Tesla's GPS for location). 3. Teslanav: a Waze-like web site with police, traffic, and road hazards depicted on a GPS tracking map.
One you quit stupid American sport where u watch 12 min of actual football game on a 3+ hours broadcast designed to shove ads down your throat your entertainment options become way cheaper.
I could never get Plex to work. Even locally when connected to my home WiFi. I did the basic troubleshooting, but figured it was just a limitation of the browser. Any tips?
It's a Plex/router config thing, gotta get it set up for external access. I'm also on an AMD 2023 Model 3, dunno if hardware configuration matters for browser capabilities.
So.it just responds something with voice but nothing changes on the screen right?
Ok now there's Grok, which will respond via voice, and the traditional voice command which I'm describing which will not respond via voice and ONLY pull up the browser page with this request googled.
I have the Intel chip. Im wondering if we're ever gonna get it😒
My 11yo son doesn't have a phone, so he uses it a lot while driving to look stuff up. My 2021 MY was painfully slow on the Intel Atom. But my new Juniper with AMD Ryzen is actually quite usable.
Interesting. I have been using the back screen (via the front screen) to pull up the YouTube video and it keeps audio. Like the kids are in the back watching. The browser will keep audio playing and let you go back to nav?
Plex. Watching live tv is great.
Using it right now for playing Xbox.
Rarely. If it would remember passwords it would be super useful.
If you use it with Android Auto, or Apple CarPlay internet is not really needed as it pulls/casts from your phone automatically. That’s how I started. I now personally have a spare phone line so just put a SIM card in a USB cell modem that’s plugged in. There is also the option to tether to your phone over usb OR use the RJ45 jack on the Pi, perhaps with a more proper cellular modem.
I use it to access Home Assistant to open and close the garage door. I wish I could add a link to a URL on the app bar so I could use a webhook to open and close the garage door from anywhere.
Interesting. I have a HW4 Ryzen MY and I’ve never been able to get remote or local streaming to work.
Look at the restaurants reviews near superchargers when driving
Never use it
If you have grok, you can speak your request to Grok and get a lot of things that way if you want. I don't use the car browser.
It’s probably the only app I’ve never used in the car. I use the native YouTube app for YouTube and the Netflix app
Only use it to access teslatube so I can use other streaming services. But it is pretty rare I watch something in the car.
