Took the plastic caps off the wheels on the MYP.

So much better! Makes it look more premium and reveals the brake calipers

That’s the look. Very nice.

aka_linskey 2026-02-25 01:47

So much cleaner.

PeteCabs 2026-02-25 01:52

Looks amazing 🤩 Was it easy to take it off? How did you do it?

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 02:01

Relatively easy, it took about 20 minutes of popping each piece off with a flat blade and a cloth wrapped around it. Then a quick spit shine 💥

cac2573 2026-02-25 02:05

I’m honestly just planning on putting the Crossflow wheels on mine

sriva041 2026-02-25 02:33

Wait this is the wheel behind the wheel cover??

Salty-Hat-3994 2026-02-25 02:43

No scratches??

Dr-Goochy 2026-02-25 02:44

Is that the stock silver? Looks very nice.

Just_Futures 2026-02-25 03:16

Holy fuck that spec looks so good

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 03:23

Quicksilver

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 03:25

It is on the performance model

snakefighting 2026-02-25 03:26

Quicksilver rules! No doubt

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 03:29

Nope, I wrapped a rag around a dull blade and popped them off pretty easily

leredditxddd 2026-02-25 04:08

I'm waiting for winter to be done before I pop my covers off my QS MYP but good to know they'll look that good!

j_d_q 2026-02-25 04:29

I did too. I'll take a couple miles of mileage. Also the quicksilver. It looks so good without them.

rsg1234 2026-02-25 04:48

OP came through!

honacc 2026-02-25 05:10

Very nice. Is there any real difference in the range with or without caps?

Rvasq72 2026-02-25 13:55

3 doritos later …

JuberSun 2026-02-25 13:58

Have you noticed any change in driving? Debating whether to pop mines off also.

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 14:12

Not sure who decided putting cheap plastic parts all over a forged wheel. But I’m not driving around like that!

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 14:18

No it drives exactly the same, I think the only downside is slightly more air drag, therefore slightly less efficiency. But it actually makes cleaning the wheels and brake calipers easier, and it looks a million times better, so a no brainer for me. I also don’t have to worry about snow, so I would’ve probably left them on in snowy conditions.

Mikey_bee3 2026-02-25 14:20

Oh shit those are much cooler than mine haha

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 14:22

Minimum difference, the better look and easier cleaning made it a no brainer for me, but I also don’t have to worry about snow.

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 14:22

🙏

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 14:24

Yours look pretty similar! Still very nice!

honacc 2026-02-25 14:52

Yeah, makes sense. The looks kind of make it worth it immediately

Impossible-Mango9658 2026-02-25 15:51

Any noticeable difference in range?

ionlylandatlootlake 2026-02-25 15:57

I like the QS color in that 3rd (dark) pic. Do you find that is an accurate representation in person? QS does not seem to photograph accurately due to all of the metallic in the paint.

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 16:36

Part of what I like about the QS is that it changes throughout the day, it’s kind of a dynamic color, and it absorbs light in an interesting way, so it kind of looks different depending on how much light is available

AirOne7760 2026-02-25 18:11

how much impact do you see on the range?

Enragedocelot 2026-02-25 18:26

All fun and games till you nick them and then you’ll wish you had plastic covers instead of paying for new rims

Nomarhits400 2026-02-25 18:27

Did the same on my ‘25 M3P. Looks so much better.

Nomarhits400 2026-02-25 18:29

They are plastic inserts (not covers) for efficiency- not protection, and will absolutely provide you zero protection from road rash.

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 18:29

Ha! if only that was how they worked, they are only there for aerodynamics, the metal edges of the wheels stick out passed the plastic pieces, so they would NOT protect against a curb rash.

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 18:32

Not sure exactly, but I couldn’t imagine it taking more than 5-10 miles off a full charge. Worth it for me

AirOne7760 2026-02-25 18:44

totally agree, I hate those plastic covers

Enragedocelot 2026-02-25 18:55

ahhh woops

Enragedocelot 2026-02-25 18:55

oh then def leave them off. I don't have the performance model so I had no clue lol

j_d_q 2026-02-25 19:11

I used this set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B6W1MRB2 for like $7 Specifically the second one that looks like a crow bar. Figured it would be useful if I need to clean my windshield camera or pop off panels in the future.

cintoman 2026-02-25 19:51

So there were no scratches left behind from the metal clips these plastic covers have? I got my Performance Y on 12/26 and they had these caps on, despite me asking them not to install them. I believe they're installed at the factory in the US. I'm going to be removing them once the weather gets warmer, so I can unmount the tire and gently pop them out from the inside...specifically trying to pinch the metal clips so they don't scratch the wheel spokes as they pop out.

Mikey_bee3 2026-02-25 20:28

I have the new MY as well just not the performance but I took my caps off! Yours much much cooler!

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-25 21:06

Yeah I mean if you want to make a whole afternoon out of it then you can take each wheel off, but I didn’t want to do all that. They might have some little micro scratches, but nothing that you can see from more than a couple feet away. There was definitely no gouging or anything, so unless you’re on your hands and knees looking really hard, you won’t see any scratches.

praguer56 2026-02-26 01:19

What size are they?

Crusher10833 2026-02-26 01:34

Looks better now IMO

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-26 01:45

21’s

digjam 2026-02-26 03:19

Can u post a pic when it's dirty. I feel like every car look amazing when detailed and turns to crap once you use it daily

ad1xuz 2026-02-26 09:56

Doesn’t a tool for removing the wheel covers come included, or is that only in certain regions?

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-26 11:14

Unless it’s hidden somewhere, I didn’t see a specific tool for that.

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-26 11:24

The trick is to not let it stay dirty! I have a guy that will come to my house and detail it inside and out for $65. So I’ll probably do that around once a month, unless I feel like doing it.

Rvasq72 2026-02-26 13:43

Where are you located, thats a bargain, im in NJ and is around $175~250 most places for detailing

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-26 16:18

I found an up and coming guy, he’s been doing our detailing for about a year, but I’m sure he will eventually raise his price once he realizes he’s leaving money on the table.

JB-ZR1 2026-02-26 17:53

Looks great! I love the color of the car, especially on the MYP. Thats what I would upgrade to if I could.

lvgsxr1 2026-02-26 19:09

Nice. I made Tesla remove my covers before I took delivery of non performance one. It left scratches on the wheels so they replaced all four wheels the following Saturday. I knew ahead of time I didn't want the covers from my previous tesla. 4% range isn't worth it compared to the look.

mloyfa 2026-02-26 19:54

The clips are plastic, not metal. Use a plastic pry bar and you’re good

j_d_q 2026-02-26 21:02

What's your tint %? I feel like I have a spotlight on me

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-26 21:03

Wow, that’s good they replaced them for you. I somehow managed to not make any noticeable scratches 🤷‍♂️

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-26 21:24

It’s just what came with the car, I’m taking it to a shop to match the rear tint next week.

NecessaryInternet603 2026-02-27 05:19

I don't have the strength anymore at 74yo. I tried using one of those pry tools but I could only get one of the small pieces barely pried up but not all the way. I'm not sure if the pry tool was large enough but it was cheap and it did chip a piece of the tool off like it was too cheap to do the job. Any suggestions? I don't care about the range either and really like the look without the plastic pieces. Maybe I can get Tesla to remove them but they are 100 miles away. Also maybe I can get a Mobile Service tech to come out and take them off?

CryptoKnightKush 2026-02-27 11:08

Yeah it sounds like you need some help, I would ask a competent sibling or friend to help first, but if that doesn’t work, then see if Tesla would send someone. You do want to be careful not to scratch the wheels as you’re removing the inserts. I think I got lucky and managed not to scratch mine, but it sounds like other people have scratched theirs. Best of luck!

JimJamGo 2026-02-28 19:39

Probably the first one where removing the covers actually makes for a significant style improvement that’s worth it if you’re into that sort of thing

cintoman 2026-03-01 02:23

Good to know.... I'll try this out and hopefully no issues or scratches on the wheels. Thanks for the info!!

vwjtsheej 2026-03-01 02:57

I have the same specs! Just took my plates off too. What tint % did you get done? I’m thinking of tinting next.

DIY_CHRIS 2026-03-01 19:44

They look nice!

Successful-Scholar24 2026-03-06 01:03

What about PPF? I already have rock chips on the front bumper, a scrape on the back hatch panel from the garage door, and replaced a tire from a pothole that rim rushing my wheel.😒

CryptoKnightKush 2026-03-06 12:03

Yeah I’m going to have to consider getting some PPF, we took a trip to Savannah this week and got 1 little rock ding in a rear quarter panel, and I did the same stupid garage door thing and opened the rear hatch in the garage and it scraped near the spoiler 🤦‍♂️. I can possibly buff both of those spots out with wax, but I can definitely tell that the paint job is pretty fragile. My best guess is that they skimp on the clear coats at the factory.
